Inlaid with fine marquetry work, the musical instruments central to the commode are flanked on either side by books hanging from knotted ribbon. Two large drawers make up the case, each fully dovetailed front and back, exposed on the sides. Crisp gilt bronze mounts grace the corners and feet, allowing the cabriole legs to terminate in lion paw feet. This is such a beautiful miniature chest of drawers. I bought it from France so it is likely to be french. Made in pyramid mahogany with a dark black/greyish marble top. The knobs are made of metal. I believe this to made second half 1800´s.1860-1880. Beside being beautiful it has no less than Two! hidden compartments.one at top and one at bottom. To open the one at the top. You have to open the first drawer. To be able to open the one att the bottom you have to pull out the second drawer and use a little pull mechanism hidden on the inside of the chest. Now this could be an ideal jewelry box. And to keep secret love letters in the hidden compartments. BUT. It could also be a lovely display with you french fashion dolls or french bebe´s. Wonderful Antique Painted French Chest
This ia a beautiful antique painted chest(cir. 1920's) that I bought in Maine. The front has painted figures in a landscape with flowers. Etc. It is exquisitly done. There are three small drawers and two large ones that are all dovetailed. It is very heavy and well made, and has wondefully detailed knobs and pulls. There are a few pieces of molding missing around the drawers and a few minor chips and scratches to the surface that are due to the age of the chest. This is a very nice hand painted chest of drawers with a writing desk to the top drawer. To the front it has superb carving with carved pillars to either side. Under the paint work is walnut. The drawers are solid wood with dovetail joints. The desk interiors is satinwood with a secret compartment with a slide over the top. There is a marble to the top. Measurements are 60 high. 23 deep, 38 wide. A great looking piece of antique french furniture.

French Louis XVI Secrétaire à Abattant 19th Century. Carved Fruitwood w/ Marble Top Item# 120010TTT02 This gorgeous drop-lid carved fruitwood desk. Featuring a pierced brass gallery wrapping around shaped marble with turret corners over fluted fruitwood pillars with brass mounts. The drawer has original brass hardware with a strong lock in the middle, the keyhole a four-leaf clover lock guard, limiting the keys that can access the hole- this lock mechanism is mirrored on the drop-lid and on the pair of cabinet doors. The lid drops to reveal six small drawers and a few cubby-holes, all of the drawers hand dovetailed front and back, the bottoms bevelled to rabbet into the sides. The lower cabinet opens to reveal a locking box, key absent, the box somewhat destabalized due to a missing block on the right side. In 35 years as a antique dealer(now retired) I have never seen a better example of a miniature french chest. This chest is an exact copy of a fine 19th century chest with serpentine front drawers. Quality/ Unique All Wood Vintage/ Antique Cream French Bowed Lingerie Chest of 7 Drawers with Hand Painted Art Work Horses& Carriages Rare Bowed French Lingerie Chest of Drawers with Hand Painted Art Hand Painted French men with Horses& Carriages on drawers& both sides. All the art is still looking excellent with very little fading if any. Measures: 51" High. 24.50" Wide& 14.25" Deep at center of bow. All 7 drawers are 18.75" Wide, 10.50" Deep(at center of bow) 4.25" High.The drawers slide nicely& are interchangeable so you can place them in any slot that pleases you. It's in excellent condition for it's age. Needing only a few touch-ups. Some of the'Gold' that is on top& bottom of chest including the legs needs touching up where it has flaked off. Standing in front of(facing) ... morethe chest. The right side front corner just below the gold'rope' on down needs some cream touch up. The top is nice& smooth although there's 3 tiny little'pits' size of the point on a tooth pick. It looks great without any of these fixes, I am just trying to be as detailed as possible so there are no surprises when it arrives at your door. Please carefully look at pictures as they will'describe' it's condition better than my words can. The only'hardware' is drawer pulls& they look original. Everything else is wood. I don't see where any nails were used at all. As far as history on this all I can tell you is I purchased it from a gentleman that said his mother had bought this at an antique store in the mid west back in the 70's. After researching the internet& from what he told me It's most likely from the 1940 to the 50's. Again that's just a guess. I couldn't really find another one like it. Four drawers, one narrow top drawer, the rest of equal size. Has a heavily veined red marble top and dore bronze mounts featuring Egyptian maiden heads. Dore bronze paw feet, in very good condition. The American Empire style of furniture was loosely based on French Empire style of furniture, popular during Napoleons reign.
