This particular piece of furniture still has the original tags attached on the inside of the cedar chest. This Roos Sweetheart Chest was built in 1947 and sold at a cost of $250! The cedar chest as a whole is in good condition. The inside of the chest has a top tray lined in felt and the interior is lined with aromatic red cedar. The outside is constructed of hardwood veneersand does have its share of nicks and scratches being consistent with its age of over 65 years especially around the bottom side corners. We were shown it over 20 years ago and thought it was beautiful- we purchased it then from my friend. There is a letter available for viewing upon request that tells this story. While we are not antiquities specialists. The letter was accepted as proof of provenance(copy provided upon request within the eBay message system) No promises are being made as to its exact age. There is one broken leg which was repaired. It is carefully shown in the attached photos. I also provided photos of other legs to show the construction. There is glue in addition to screws that secure the pieces. The alignment between the top and bottom is not exact. This is to be expected due to its age as an antique that has traveled from China to California. Great care has been taken to exhibit very detailed photos. The manufacture date was April 21, 1954. I received the chest in the early-to-mid 70s and had it professionally refinished with a walnut stain in 1979. Masonic Cedar Hope Chest
This is a family heirloom. My grandfather had it made back in 1945. And when he passed, it was passed down to myself. He was a Mason, and so it has been kept in incredible condition through out the years. This is a beautiful Waterfall style Caswell Runyan Cedar Hope Chest. The dimensions are 48" wide x 18 1/2" deep x 23" tall. It is in great condition with the original sticker still attached. Beautiful Rare 1927 Antique Lane Cedar Hope Blanket Chest Style# 48910 This Lane Hope Chest was made on May. 9th 1927 In 1912 John Edward Lane bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista. Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Early production of about ten chests a day was sold through independent salesmen working on commission. In its early days. The business was run on a shoestring budget. Nearby buildings were rented as ... moredemand grew, with finished parts transferred from one building to another by means of a mule-drawn carriage. This little chest was handmade of cedar and measures 21In. x 10 1/2in. x 9 1/2in. outside overall(handles. Top sides) and the inside measures 19 1/4 in. x 9 1/4in. x 7 1/4 in. There is a nice old wood knot on the top which gives this trunk a character. A quaint look that was often seen when people made furniture and other things from scrap. 1963 Lane Blanket Hope Storage Trunk Chest Danish Modern Cedar Mid Century
Danish modern style cedar chest by Lane in excellent condition. This mid century modern style blanket chest is completely cedar lined. Stands on sturdy walnut peg legs with brass caps, has a bottom pullout drawer and is totally original, excellent with just a couple small nicks. Outside measurements are 18 by 40 and stands 20 high. The top and outside finishes are walnut solids and veneers. Note the date stamp: for those who do not know. All vintage Lane products denote there date or manufacture with the serial number. backwards, in this case Aug 21, 1963. It stands on Danish style peg legs. For auction is a vintage miniature salesman's sample cedar chest made by Lane Cedar Chests in Altavista. Va. and Presented by John Tucker Furniture, Inc. These miniature"hope chests" were typically given away by furniture stores to girls nearing graduation from high school. This chest is made of cedar wood and measures approximately 9 inches long, 4 1/4 inches wide and 4 inches high. The Lane name and"Presented by John Tucker Furniture, Inc. are impressed into the underside of the lid. Most of the Lane label is still attached to the bottom of the chest. It has 4 felt cushions on the bottom. The hinges are in good condition and work well. It has a lock but I do not have the key. STUNNING ANTIQUE 1926 ROOS CEDAR HOPE CHEST! The Ed Roos Company. Based in Forest Park, IL, was in business from 1916-1951 and made chests in popular styles from Edwardian to Art Deco. Featuring double locks and two levels. This beautiful Hope Chest is multi-functional and a great collectors piece! The first shelf has four felt compartments including one large area that you can strap down a blanket or anything really! The largest compartment under the first shelf is lined with thick paper with holes. This method is used to protect both the cedar and any items stored. Articles and cloths along with other items can stick to the cedar and possibly ruin both. The lining helps the cedar breath. And keeps items from attaching to the wood. The entire Chest has wood inlay around the body. And lovely carved embellishment around the edges. Solid wood construction with decorative patterned veneer. Original finish. The cedar scent is still very strong. The lid opens by depressing the latch on the outside. There is a 3-section tray on the inside with a hinged cover over the center section. Measures approx. 45 in long x 18 1/2 in deep x 23 in high This piece is in very nice condition. The interior is excellent. The exterior is in very good shape. There are 2 pieces of the veneer missing along the top left side; they have been restained.
