I received the chest in the early-to-mid 70s and had it professionally refinished with a walnut stain in 1979. Some of the grain is slightly raised on the front(as seen in the picture) Several pictures were taken under different lighting conditions. There are a few very minor scratches. Altavista, VA· list of patent numbers(as seen in the picture) Imprinted on the bottom: style# 3043· serial# 451240. This chest measures 48 inches wide by 18 inches deep by 17 inches high. When opened. You are greeted with the fresh scent of natural cedar as a shelf rises up and away for easy access to the chest below. Based on the serial number. The manufacture date was April 21, 1954. I received the chest in the early-to-mid 70s and had it professionally refinished with a walnut stain in 1979. Masonic Cedar Hope Chest
This is a family heirloom. My grandfather had it made back in 1945. And when he passed, it was passed down to myself. He was a Mason, and so it has been kept in incredible condition through out the years. Beautiful Rare 1927 Antique Lane Cedar Hope Blanket Chest Style# 48910 This Lane Hope Chest was made on May. 9th 1927 In 1912 John Edward Lane bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista. Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Early production of about ten chests a day was sold through independent salesmen working on commission. In its early days. The business was run on a shoestring budget. Nearby buildings were rented as ... moredemand grew, with finished parts transferred from one building to another by means of a mule-drawn carriage. This little chest was handmade of cedar and measures 21In. x 10 1/2in. x 9 1/2in. outside overall(handles. Top sides) and the inside measures 19 1/4 in. x 9 1/4in. x 7 1/4 in. There is a nice old wood knot on the top which gives this trunk a character. A quaint look that was often seen when people made furniture and other things from scrap. There are several light sctatches that will easily come out with good polishing. I don't clean in anyway the items I find to sell so you are getting this just as I found it. 1963 Lane Blanket Hope Storage Trunk Chest Danish Modern Cedar Mid Century
Danish modern style cedar chest by Lane in excellent condition. This mid century modern style blanket chest is completely cedar lined. Stands on sturdy walnut peg legs with brass caps, has a bottom pullout drawer and is totally original, excellent with just a couple small nicks. Outside measurements are 18 by 40 and stands 20 high. The top and outside finishes are walnut solids and veneers. Note the date stamp: for those who do not know. All vintage Lane products denote there date or manufacture with the serial number. backwards, in this case Aug 21, 1963. It stands on Danish style peg legs. These miniature"hope chests" were typically given away by furniture stores to girls nearing graduation from high school. This chest is made of cedar wood and measures approximately 9 inches long, 4 1/4 inches wide and 4 inches high. Featuring double locks and two levels. This beautiful Hope Chest is multi-functional and a great collectors piece! The first shelf has four felt compartments including one large area that you can strap down a blanket or anything really! The largest compartment under the first shelf is lined with thick paper with holes. This method is used to protect both the cedar and any items stored. Articles and cloths along with other items can stick to the cedar and possibly ruin both. The lining helps the cedar breath. And keeps items from attaching to the wood. Vintage 1930s LANE Waterfall Art Deco Cedar Lined Hope Chest Located on Long Island. NY Beautiful Art Deco cedar lined LANE hope chest. I believe this is from the 1930s. Solid wood construction with decorative patterned veneer. Original finish. The cedar scent is still very strong. The lid opens by depressing the latch on the outside. There is a 3-section tray on the inside with a hinged cover over the center section. Measures approx. 45 in long x 18 1/2 in deep x 23 in high This piece is in very nice condition. The interior is excellent. The exterior is in very good shape. There are 2 pieces of the veneer missing along the top left side; they have been restained.
