Starting at the top with level 1, the thinnest level at 1/4" is a cloudy sky, level 2 green hillside, level 3 tree trunk, level 4 grass on each side of tree trunk, level 5 2 mushrooms, level 6 green grass hill at the bottom where it is 3/4" thick. There is a hole drilled on the top for a hanger. Pictures do not do this piece justice. You can't really see all the detail in a three dimensional carving in a picture. From an estate. You are bidding on an antique hump back doll trunk that is made of wood and metal. It has been painted black at some point in time. There are no handles on either side. There is a lock but no key but you can open it up easily. Inside is the original interior complete with tray. There might be some pieces of the interior missing so please refer to photos to verify what is present. The top piece of wood across the top of the hump has broken and is nailed into place. The trunk measures approx. 16 inches by 9 1/2 inches by 9 inches high plus the hump. I think it is in very nice condition, no odors, clean, and from smoke free homes. The black trim is metal, and there is a leather strap on the top. The left side of the trunk has four drawers, the right side has a sliding bar to hang clothes,with 3 hangers. The sides of the drawers are wood, and maybe the front too, the back and bottom of the drawers are heavy cardboard. All of it is covered in a wallpaper type of paper. The trunk is in nice condition with a few flaws. With the trunk standing up, there is what is probably water damage on the bottom, it affects only the bottom on the inside and outside. You can see this in there pictures. The worst of it is under where the last drawer goes, so not a big deal there. The bottom where it must have gotten ... morewet, the paper has loosened and darkened, but it is all there. You can see this in he the pictures also. There is scattered spots and crutches on he the outside, but overall, a nice trunk with age appropriate wear. It measures 21" tall, 121/2" wide, and 9" deep. Wonderful antique wooden storage trunk made by B. C. Sweetser& Sons of Portsmouth. N.H. in 1875. We were able to date the trunk as it originally was lined with old newspaper dated June 1875. The newspaper was removed as it was heavily water stained, torn, brittle and musty. We were able to save the original manufacturer label in the center of the interior of the lid. Interior is now clean and can be used to store items. The exterior is original(not refinished, only cleaned) with a warm dark wood patina; original lock(no key) and iron handles. Dome style lid. Original brass tacks on exterior. Solid original bottom. Great trunk for the collector! Measures 28 inches by 15 inches; 12 inches tall on the sides. Blue Forest HOLLY Trunk base & Root Mass - polished petrified wood
Up for your consideration is a really excellent specimen of Holly( Ilex sp. from the Blue Forest. Wyoming(Green River Formation- Eocene) This specimen is interesting for several reasons. Of course, the pattern on the polished face which highlights both agate and wood is the most obvious attribute. But, a closer look reveals much more! Please see our full range of photos. This specimen is the absolute base of the trunk- exactly where it changes into the roots that fed the living tree. When viewed from the back side(the uncut, natural side) it is easy to see multiple roots leading off in all directions and to see the main tap root as well. Nearly all of the roots and rootlets are surrounded by the beautiful blue agate that is so well featured on the polished face. This end cut specimen measures 3.5 x 3 inches on the professionally polished ... moreface and it is 4 inches thick. It sits securely on one particular spot of the exterior and gives a view of the polished face. The curvature of roots behind the polished face and some nice bubbly chalcedony filling in a cavity on the natural side. This one is a real winner for the advanced collector. If you are looking for special features in pieces of Blue Forest- look no farther. You won't find a better example of the transition zone from trunk to roots. As you may already know, the vessels in holly wood are exceptionally tiny. they need a minimum of 10x magnification to see them and even then it is a bit of a strain. 20x on this species would be preferable for microscope enthusiasts. We specialize in petrified wood and plant fossils which are accurately identified as to locality of origin and family. Genus or species. We don’t guess and when we don’t know, we say so! The nails that are visible look to be 20th century. The handles look like proper 18th-19th century hand-forged hardware. The hand-forged hinges are old. But we are not sure if they are original. There is no lock and something was attached to the center of the inside of the lid. Which is gone. The surface has some patina. But is a more recent coat of varnish that has some scratches and scuffs, mostly on the top. The wood was hand-planed and the details were all hand-cut. There are no machine-made parts. Charming all-wood domed child's trunk circa 1880s. Has original top handle and fantastic front brass hinge. Hinge has a mark. Patent date of 1880s(I think) Great shape and design. Adorable size at 14" tall x 16" across front, 13" deep. It is utterly charming and substantial enough to hold things. Beautiful outside condition on wood which might be pine. Two splits on top. Front must have had leather straps at one time but are now gone but 3 of 4 metal clips remain. Inside is unrestored; no interior tray.

Hand Carved Adjustable Wood Elephant Bookends, Shelf, India, Trunk Up
This is an intricately carved sliding adjustable bookshelf with elephants on each end. The elephants fold up and the shelf extends to 20-3/4" in length. Closed it measures 13-1/8" long. The elephant shelf is 5-3/4" tall x 5" wide. The wood is 3/8" thick on the elephants and is 3/4" thick on the bottom. Stamped on the bottom is INDIA 276. One elephant looks like it has been repaired as shown in the photos and the nails for the hinges seem to be poking through. This is how this came to me between 15-20 years ago. The trunks are up on these two. Most others like this are down. I am not sure what type of wood this is. This is a beautiful wood steamer trunk from the early 1900s. This trunk is black metal with very pretty red and silver accents. It has unusual wheels on the bottom. I have not seen these on a steamer trunk. It measures 17-1/2" tall, 26" wide and it is 14" deep. It is in excellent clean condition. On inspection the handle straps are missing on the sides and the locking center latch is also missing. It shows normal scuffing and bumps as you would expect but no abuse. The trunk had mothballs stored in it and there is a lingering scent. I have never dealt with moth balls and I did not try to deodorize it but I think it will dissipate over time. Up for sale is a very interesting Antique lincoln safe deposit company wood trunk. I am unsure of the exact age of the trunk but it seems to be very old. The trunk was stored with charcoal to keep it from getting moisture within. The label show it being by lincoln safe deposit company. And was used as a fireproof warehouse for people's belongings in new York city. Very cool part of history. Antique India Folk Art Wood Blanket Chest / Marriage Box Trunk Hand Painted
Hi. For sale an antique wood/ chest(circa 1800s/ early 1900) marriage box/ blanket chest. I am not positive of the boxes origin but I believe this is Folk Art. There are hand painted tulips on the edges and hand painted white flowers. The measurements are 17 inches wide or long. 9 1/2 inches in height, and 7 1/2 inches deep. The chest/ Box weighs 11 pounds. It does have wear which is to be expected for it's age. The paint on the flowers have faded in some places, there are a few cracks on the wood, one is on the bottom(does not go all the way through, and one is on the inside of the lid. Wood shrinks with age and cracks are normal. There are a few places where wood has chipped off(one on the foot) the lock is missing and there is a heavy patina especially the places that would get the most use(by the handles. The front side has a darker ... morepatina(see 2nd picture) than the back side, it was probably sitting up against a wall and was covered on the top. The feet did have felt pads at one time. The rivets(or nails) are old type nails. It is made very well, it is very heavy and sturdy and it closes fine. The interior has the original paper lining and paper covered wood drawers. The drawers have the original metal nobs. The paper is worn here and there and has some discoloration, but is mostly intact. It is designed to hold a doll on one side and all of her clothing and accessories in the drawers on the other side. The doll compartment is 17 ½ by 10” and 5” deep. The other side has 4 drawers. Charming Antique Dome Oube / Oak Wood Small Trunk, c 1880, Great Brass Hinge
Charming all-wood domed small trunk circa 1880s. Has original top handle and fantastic front brass hinge. Hinge has a mark. Patent date of 1880s(I think) Great shape and design. Very useable size at 14" tall x 16" across front, 13" deep. It is utterly charming and substantial enough to hold linens or other objects. It certainly was too large for a doll trunk so might have been for a child but it's heavy and substantial so was not a plaything. Beautiful outside condition on wood which looks to be pine with oak trim. A couple of expected splits on top. Front must have had leather straps at one time but are now gone; 3 of 4 metal clips remain. I always thought I'd buy a leather belt at a thrift store and add straps but never did because it's great the way it is. Inside is unrestored and original(but cleaned by me) ... morewith no interior tray. Would look great at foot of single bed. Shipping might be less to California and will refund anything over $5.

I have had this trunk for about 15 years and it has provided great storage and looks beautiful in my living room. The iron and internal structure are in great condition and definitely original. This is a rare piece. I was not the purchaser. However, and therefore I do not have any information about its age and origin. It is definitely old and original though. I am moving house and do not have room for it. It's heavy, probably more than 200 lbs and very solidly built. Anyone who can provide further information please help. I know it cost a lot more than this listed price.

I AM ESTIMATING THIS TRUNK TO HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE LATE 1800'S. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE WAS IN THE EARLY 1900'S. NOTICEABLE ISSUES WOULD BE ONE OF THE 4 SMALL ROLLERS ON THE BOTTOM HAS BROKEN OFF. THE CHAIN TO SUPPORT THE LID IS MISSING. VIEWING THE 1ST PHOTO. THE LATCH ON THE LEFT SIDE FLIPS UP BUT DOESN'T CATCH THE MATING PART. THERE MAY BE LITTLE BUMPS, SCRATCHES OR A LOOSE SCREW BUT THIS ITEM IS IN VERY GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION. THE METAL I BELIEVE IS TIN WHICH HAS BEEN BLACKENED. THE WOOD APPEARS TO BE STURDY AND ORIGINAL. THE COMPARTMENT FITS SNUG BUT LIFTS OUT USING 2 HOLES ON THE INSIDE AT THE TOP.
