The chest is solid wood with hand painted floral insets. The floral insets look like gorgeous oil paintings of the past with roses and other flowers- the colors are RICH AND VIBRANT. The closure latch is ornate and pretty. There are handles on the side. The interior is completely lined in burgandy felt. Depending on the way the light hits it. Another timeless primitive piece. This has been in my home for years! I have used it as a coffee table, as a trunk at the end of my bed, to store books in.and it always starts conversation when I have company! It is very old, probably 1800's, and probably from England. It is signed inside the lid by"Jodi E. Tattersall Jr. 9679" And my research has only yielded that the name is common in England(now U.K. and that there is a horse race park with the name Tattersall in the U.K. It is a magnificent example of handmade trunks. With intact original brass or copper hardware. It is un-refinished and in it's original rough-hewn condition. The lid closes easily and lies flat. The whole piece is straight according to my level on all sides. There is a few flaws(Please see pics for details) one being a small piece of wood missing on ... morethe top, another is the slight scruffing away of part of the bottom left front corner. Antique Chinese Brass/Wood Document Box; Trunk; Jewelry Chest; Circa1900-1925
This box is stunning! It is large at approximately 20" wide. 11 1/2" deep and 9 1/2" tall, plus the 3-D brass turtles on top of the lid. It has four drawers that are 9 3/4" deep. It has two brass hinges on the back and a hinged lock closure that would accommodate a traditional Chinese pin key. The front and top of the trunk are covered in brass decoration; rich engraved/etched calligraphy, symbols, and animals(bats for longevity) Two turtles are tiny 3D sculptures, one has a moving head! It all has a lovely old patina. The lower left hand drawer has some corrosion on it that could easily be cleaned. There are butterfly motifs on the sides where handles once were, they no longer exist. The interior has some tatty, old velvet lining in some drawers and someone in some past decade painted the interior lid with bronze paint( ... moreIt could probably be cleaned off, although I would myself probably put a beveled mirror or picture over the paint. The wood looks like rosewood but I am not sure if it is. One of the side wood panels is cracked. This piece is heavy, it weighs around 9 lbs. It would make a great statement piece in any room that you place it in, it has lots of atmosphere! Buyer will pay for shipping and insurance. Beautiful old trunk with an organizer/insert. I believe this trunk is wood with tin or another metal that has a decorative pattern. On the inside lid is a beautiful image of a woman riding a horse. It measures about 26'x15'x14' As you can see from the pictures the handles are broken/no longer there. Also one hinge has came apart. But you are still able to open and close this. The wood is lined with a decorative patterned paper and the image of a girl's face-perhaps the girl who owned the trunk. It has a convex/dome top. As well as an inside tray that can come out. This is a wonderful vintage men's jewelry box. It really has a'Mission' feel to it. It is trimmed in leather.or at least it looks like leather.and trimmed in hammered brass tacks or'brads' Comes from a local estate and I feel it is from the 1930-40's. It is a very sturdy and well made piece. A true Arts& Crafts piece. There is a drawer that lays in the top and comes out. And it is all trimmed in dark green velvet. Inside the cover is a band for putting tie bars or tie clips on. The top section is divided into 6 sections. There is one large compartment in the bottom. There is a functional lock, but I don't have the key. The color is darker than it appears in the pics.the pics look kind of green. This is an antique trunk that I purchased over 14 years ago from an antique dealer in CT. It has raised metal sides. I believe they are tin. The inside has fabric and a hidden trap door. It is a really cool and if I had room I wouldn't part with it. I used it as a coffee table. The measurements are approximately 30 1/2" long X 17 1/2" wide X 20" high. It measures 13 inches from top to bottom. Closed it is 6 1/2 inches. It has a drawer on the one side& a small O ring on the top to hand some doll clothes. The drawer itself measures 3 inches. The other side is for the doll with a ribbon on the inside to hold her in. It would fit the smaller American Girl Dolls not the standard 16 inch ones.
