VINTAGE Antique Wardrobe STEAMER CHEST TRUNK National Vulcanized Fibre co.
Here is an antique Steamer Trunk Wardrobe. The sides are flat so this could be used as an interesting coffee table. The outside brass has a little oxidation and there are assorted nicks and dings from use but overall it's in pretty good shape. It has all four(4) drawers. The top drawer locks and I believe one of the keys works in that lock. All the hanging mechanisms work- the hanging bars extend out etc. I have all the wooden hangers(see photo) It smells a little musty inside but probably nothing Febreeze and fresh air won't fix. The lock on the outside works and I have two(2) original keys plus a new one I had to have made when I locked the keys inside. I have always called this the Circus trunk because I bought it in Sarasota. Florida which has very strong circus ties. Sarasota was for many years the winter home of Ringling Brothers ... moreCircus and Barnum and Bailey Circus and now has an excellent Circus Museum and the Ringling Art Museum(formerly the Ringling residence) The man I bought the trunk from said it had belonged to a circus performer. I did a little research but was not able to get any more information than that. So not only can you buy a very cool old trunk but you can have a mystery included for free! This is a fun piece of Americana and of special interest to Circus fans everywhere! I don't know how much this weighs. Probably 70-100 pounds I would guess. These trunks are some of the largest and heaviest ever made and are designed to stand on end for packing or open use. One half of the trunk, usually the right half, is filled with drawers while the other half has clothes hangers, usually a shoe box, and sometimes an ironing board and even a flat iron. Pity the people who had to move these monsters around, most are heavy even when empty! Wardrobe trunks have become more and more popular just in the last few years. Many are restored and then used in bedrooms of small ... moreapartments as a combination chest of drawers and closet. Most of them were made in the 1920s and 1930s with some going back nearer the turn of the century. Note how the upper part of the left half of the one above opens up to allow better access to the hangers. The two chrome rods in the same area telescope out to give the hangers more room when the trunk is open. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. They represent a much simpler time in this country. It's that emotional connection that makes them so appealing to collectors, and will only increase the value of the piece in time. There are not many of these trunks left. The odds of anyone having the same exact one are slim. note: We have several other wardrobe trunks available but not yet listed. I have done my best to describe this piece. It is very old and will contain the usual wear marks of typical everyday use. Scratches. Bumps& nicks visible. It's actually very appealing to show the wear.tells a great story of all the years this trunk has seen! It's my opinion that you will be very happy with this chest. When stood on its end. The trunk’s owner can open a smaller corner door to access an approximately 4 ½ inch by 3 ½ inch by 9 ½ inch storage compartment not accessible from the interior. Some of the most beautiful trunks ever made are doll trunks. They were made for little girls to store and carry their dolls and doll clothes. Many are still being made today. But unique beauties such as this are becoming extremely hard to find. If you are a collector of doll trunks. This auction is sure to please. Condition is good given the trunk’s age. There is some wear and staining evident to the exterior. The interior drawer corners need to be re-taped and the upper left shelf is loose. The Case has a working Black Handle and a working Metal Clasp on another side(look great- no rust) On the exterior there are two 1/4" small splits on the top and bottom corner near Stacey. see ... morephotos#6& 7. Antique Freemasons Masonic Knights Templar Small Wardrobe Trunk MC Lilley & Co.
For your consideration is a very old Freemasons Small Wardrobe Trunk. This particular trunk was made by M.C. Lilly& Co. Columbus.Oh. It is small in size measuring 18 1/8" wide, 11" deep and stands only 11 1/2" tall. It is fully leather bound with wood and a laminte material on the inside. It has the manufacturers label fully intact and legible just under the top compartment. It also has the previous owners name on the left side which is also fully legible. Due to its age and use the leather straps on the front have dried up and broke off at some point, the lock has no key and also does not hold whe pushed in. Also due to its age and use the laminate material on the inside is starting to crack in places and the divider on the inside bottom has came apart from its sides where it was attached. All in all a very old unique ... morehard to find trunk that would be great for display. All of the Freemasons items I have up for aution came from a local estate. Doll trunk/ case is 4"x 17.5" x 13. It looks nice for its age. It was mine and played with. Could use some cleaning. See photos. There is some rust around the metal and splits on the corners. On the inside the blue cardboard that runs top to bottom is split near the pink"drawer" See photo- it probably can be fixed by glue. There is a split on the same bar ontop right that looks like it was already repaired/ glued and it is holding. The great thing about this case is the large hanging bar that keeps the clothes on hangers neat and the flowery bags that keep the tiny shoes etc. from getting lost. For your consideration is a very old Knights of Columbus Small Wardrobe Trunk. This particular trunk was made by M.C. Lilly& Co. Columbus.Oh. It is small in size measuring 18 1/8" wide, 11" deep and stands only 11 1/2" tall. It is fully leather bound with wood and a laminte material on the inside. It has the manufacturers label fully intact and legible just under the top compartment. It also has the previous owners name on the left side which is also fully legible. Due to its age and use the leather straps on the front have dried up and broke off at some point, the lock has no key and also does not hold whe pushed in. Also due to its age and use the laminate material on the inside is starting to crack in places and the divider on the inside bottom has came apart from its sides where it was attached.
