The exterior has been stripped to the original wood then sanded and stained with varnish for a glossy finish. It is partially lined on the exterior with cowhide. This is an Anchor Trunk made by the Friedberg- Grunauer Co. and looks to be from the 1930s to 1950s. The trunk shows various marks/scuffs etc due to age. Trunk is in good condition structurally. The metal shows quite a bit of rust but latches seem to work fine. There are minor dings and scratches but is in good shape for the age. The trunk is also missing the brass piece along the bottom on the left shorter side. This can be noted in new picture added. This missing piece could be replaced and doesn't change the starting price of the trunk. Leave the trunk as is for a true vintage piece or restore it to it's previous luster. This is a vintage Lotto X Game by McLoughlin Bros. NY. I don't know if the roman numeral X designates it is from 1910 or not? Game is not complete. Comes with the original 24 cards, 94 wooden number pieces, 16 wood markers, no glass markers, we tried it out and you use the numbered pieces on the cards as well as the colored wood markers, it is fun, two thumbs up from the daughters! Very old. Possibly over 100 years old, Neverbreak steamer trunk travel chest. This chest is approximately 40" long x 21" wide x 21" deep. It is extremely heavy, and I would estimate between 75-100lbs+ in weight. It still has all drawers, storage box, original wooden hangers, and lock bars to secure drawers. Genuine antique travel trunk that has been painted in a delicate shade of duck egg blue and had the interior completely stripped of old paper to reveal the beautiful beech wood. There has been no woodworm at all. Useful inner tray and new strong. Cotton rope handles. The paint is a chalk finish and at the moment is unwaxed. I can either leave it like this or give it a coat of fine wax- whatever the buyer prefers. The wooden interior has been left natural with no stain or wax. Plentiful nails and amazing-fine hardware makes this a high-end piece, often known as a Saratoga Trunk. The reason for the curved top is to ensure that this trunk would go on the top of the stack. Rather than having trunks stacked on top of it, damaging the contents. I have not altered or refinished this trunk. I purchased it from a lady who stated it was in the stable area of her very old, victorian home. The home was built in the early 1900's. INSIDE: I believe it is constructed of Pine with a floral paper design. Which means this trunk belonged to a Woman. There is a 16" wide Alligator Leather look design area on the top that extends down the front and back and along both sides that is divided by leather slats. I was told this design area is an ornate hammered tin. The metal work is very nice and when this trunk was new, must have been gorgeous. There are(2) brown leather handles. 1 handle is torn but repairable. This trunk was definitely for a woman of importance. Approximate Dimensions: 22" High@ the highest-middle 32.5" Wide 17.5" Deep Condition: This trunk is in good antique condition. There is normal wear. Which is expected, due to it's age. Up for bid is this awesome vintage steamer trunk. This amazing wardrobe-style chest normally stands upright on rollers and is pulled by a single handle on the top. The trunk is intended to travel on its wheels. But it also sits nicely on its side if desired. Once opened. The trunk reveals four drawers of varying sizes on one side. On the other side, a drape hangs over a small closet. A covered small suitcase box holds wooden hangers to be used in the closet- it fits into place to make a storage space at the bottom of the closet area. The top of the closet opens up. See pics. The interior of the trunk is all nicely lined. Including the drawers. The interior hardware and hangers are intact. VINTAGE FLAT TOP SPAULDING STEAMER TRUNK, CUNARD,QUEEN ELIZABETH, DE PAUL UNIV.
This is a very cool trunk from our family estate. Just acquired, I do not know how we got it, but has a lot of history all over it. It is stamped the De Paul University Choir, Greencastle, Indiana on the top of it. It has a persons, name and address from England, date 1956. Cunard line, Queen Victoria Ship. From what I research this would have been the first ship. It is not perfect, no key, inside lot of wear and tear and some staining, paper lining pulling away in spots. One sticker is off on the side, just residue is left. Measures 29 long, 15 wide, and 9 1/2 depth. This is really neat with a lot of history, was used for display. I originally though of making a jewelry chest out of it, but thought twice, it's neat the way it is, great conversation piece.
