This ... morelevel of quality difficult to come across in tasteful proportions and embellishment. Crafted primarily of solid Golden Oak, the chest has had at least three different painted coats, the current gray-green over two prior shades of red and maroon. It has a distinctly Neoclassical presence to the form, the drawers angular and layered with stepped-corner panels of a lighter shade flanking a molded sphere around the keyhole escutcheon. The corner columns of the frame are deeply fluted, the lower portion stop-fluted with large reeds over the turned and tapered feet. The feet are also fluted in a bold and exaggerated manner, giving a sense of strength and personality to these small feet; the result is very successful, the feet actually being a significant embellishment to the overall form. The case of the commode is joined with tenon-mortised framing around chamfered oak panels that sink into miters and prevent splitting from shrinking. The only shrinkage split in the case is the top. As this was naturally affixed more permanently with pegs. This is a simply outstanding find that remains in well preserved condition; a form that simply never goes out of vogue. This is a fine investment that will be cherished in your family for many generations to come. This country pine immigrant trunk or chest has a slightly curved top, but still makes a picturesque coffee table. The carpenter's expertise is shown by wooden pegs instead of nails and hand cut corner dovetail joints. There is a wonderful hand wrought iron lock that still works with the key. But we have removed it because it locks automatically when the lid is closed. It is included and can be reattached if desired. Wrought iron hinges are also original. There are traces of old paint and warm antique patina. Waxed and buffed so that all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. It almost appears to have been constructed of old flooring. There is overall normal surface wear commensurate with age and use, including plenty of dings and scratches found commonly on antique furniture. The entire surface has been refinished and the hinges have been replaced. We do not have the key. Overall. The structural integrity is good with no major problems. Beautiful Huge Pine Chest
Beautiful solid pine chest in excellent condition. Two designer friends tell me it is solid pine but I don't know for sure. It is solid and very heavy. It measures 7 feet long, 5 feet high, and 2 feet wide. The top lips off to get it out the door. Just under the lid there are two drawers measuring 6" by 25" each. It has two front opening doors measuring 2ft by 3ft each. Inside there is one shelf running the length of the chest. This is being offered as found for repairs as the one hinge is no longer attached. Cracks to top, bottom and back that go all the way through, surface losses throughout exposing an early baby blue paint in some spots. None the less a wonderful grain faux paint style, well made with nice secure tight mitered edges, it is just the wood inside has dried at the joins) Nice functional storage size at approx 15x21 and 13" high. Heavy, sturdy even with the cracks as they are well"framed" with the edges. Round nails. This was made by my great uncle in the 50's sometime. I've had it for about 30 years when it was passed to me. I put in two sets of removable shelves. They were cut to fit and sit on top of the side supports. I used it for a closet for a while. The original hanging bar is still in place. Wonderful old ice box or chest. Probably made from pine, with its original rust coloured paint. It has all its original hardware with long hinges on the lift top, and old hasp for locking at front. The interior is all galvanized metal for insulation and waterproofing. It could still be used as an ice chest and would also be great for firewood storage or any other kind of storage. Solid Pine Blanket or Hope Chest - Hand Painted Farm Scene - Signed
There is no maker mark on the chest. It could be homemade folk-art but it appears to be too well constructed to come from a hobbyist. Being pine. I am confident it was made in the US. I am not sure on age but it is not antique, maybe 1980's. It is the beautiful farm scene that sets this piece apart from other chests. It is signed Brenda. The paint is in excellent condition(not popping, peeling, etc. with only a couple blemishes. The only one worth noting is a dark circle in the sky that is shown in the photos and is smaller than a dime. The artist cleverly used the wood grain to represent the ground. The chest is generally in excellent condition but, like anything used and especially with pine, there are a few blemishes. Nothing significant. RARE 1800's(It may be 1700's) ANTIQUE EARLY America FOLK ART HAND PAINTED TRUNK BLANKET CHEST Very old and yes I WILL SHIP TO YOUR ADDRESS Up for sale is this amazing hand painted trunk or blanket chest. It's a beautiful trunk with tons of character and that true folk art flavor. Many trunks that were highly decorated like this were wedding trunks but who can know? It has a hinged lid as you can see in the pictures. The trunk has red white and blue with some green accents. The paint appears to be painted over what appears to be a green trunk that has some Romanian name lettering on the front. It was probably a trunk that originally came over by ship then painted by the owner after getting to America. This is all original and has nicks. Chips and scrapes, and worm marks on it as you'd expect from an item of this age. The painting ... moreon the front and sides is very colorful and worn through several areas to base color. Wow! That's amazing! The trunk is wonderfully hand painted. Inside. The trunk is clean. There's a little tray on the left side inside, and it still has the original cover or lid to the tray. One of the hinges on the lid of the trunk was replaced at some point but is still old. The hardware on the sides is old and ornate. There are no square nails in this trunk that we can see and there are a number of worm holes at the bottom of the front and under the front lip. This is typical for old trunks like this as they've been around the block(and world) It's an nice size and is 39" wide(at the lid) L x 16" W x 14" H. It weighs about 50 lbs. we'd guess. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Rustic Pine Blanket Chest. Dome top, dovetailed Beautiful rustic pine. Rounded dome-top blanket chest. Good condition. Dovetailed joints. No idea how old it is. I’ve had it 15-17 years, purchased in Delaware. The top is 22 inches across, tapers down to 17 inches at bottom. All visible joinery are wooden pegs. Sits on“feet, 2-inch tall and 1.5-inch wide boards that run the length of the bottom in the front and back, below a full rim of wood trim. Measures 39 inches long, 24 ¼ inches tall. Holds a lot! Hand wrought handles, lock plate(no key) and hinges. There are some visible old scratches(not lighter in color than the body) wear to the bottom trim, and long cracks or splits in the wood, all of which lend to it's unique character. No discernible damage other than expected for age. Unfinished ... moreor matte exterior. May have had an oil finish at one time; doesn’t look like it was ever varnished. Inside is bare wood. Please review photos carefully for condition. Recommend local pick up only. Upon mutual agreement. Non-local buyer can make shipping arrangements, including packaging and insurance.
