Superbly flame decorated front and side panels, with green trim. Nice deep red and black colour. Rust red painted turned feet mounted on the corners. All pine dovetailed construction. Through dovetails on the front, and blind dovetails on the back. The blind dovetails on the back is a unusual feature, which requires more cabinetmaking skill than the standard dovetail. Super clean interior. With the original iron lock, key, hinges and brass escutcheon. This blanket chest is a wonderful size. 44" wide, 24" tall, 21" deep. Condition: Very fine clean condition. Minor dings and scratches. The right side lid back edge. Early 19th Century Blanket Chest, Black Paint with Painted Floral Design
I bought this chest almost 40 years ago. I am not a dealer in furniture and this is the only early American piece that I have. I was told it is an early 19th century blanket chest made in Pennsylvania. What I like about the chest is the painted floral design on the top and the fact that it is large and great storage. A hinged box is built in to hold candles. And are slots underneath them that were probably used for valuables. It measures 25" high, 51" long and 23" wide. Forged iron hinges allows the top to be opened and closed. The iron handles on the side are solid and can be used to lift and move the chest. Now that I have moved. I do not have room for this chest. CONDITION There is wear and marks that you often find on these early chest after years of use. The floral design is faded some from its original. Painted Chest with Top that Lifts to Reveal Cubby Holes Inside - Locks w/ Key
This is a one-of-a-kind lovely wooden desktop or storage chest with cubby holes/drawers inside. It was purchased from a business where they make furniture in Altamont. NY, about 17 years ago. It is 20" long and about 12" wide. It is 6.5" high. The outside is semi-gloss black with floral/bird designs in a repeating pattern. The design is predominately an off-white urn with an off-white bird on either side of the urn base. Within the urn there is green foliage with red flowers and either two off-white birds perched on the top of the foliage or in flight nearby. The top folds back on 2 hinges to reveal mini cubby holes inside. The moveable bottom front piece(2 1/4" high) where it meets the bottom folds down on 2 hinges. There are 10 cubbies of different widths. The inside is unpainted. The bottom is unpainted also and sits ... moreon 4 short legs about 1" high. There are 2 old-fashioned metal keys that lock the desktop. It would look nice as a desktop organization/storage unit setting on a table, bookcase, or desk, or as just a piece of unique decorative furniture. Antique Hand Painted Chest of Drawers in The French Style
This is a very nice hand painted french style serpentine front chest of drawers circa 1900. Not sure were it was made I bought it in England. But has a french look to it. The sides there has been a little veneer lifting but is pretty solid. There is also one escutching to the bottom drawer missing were the key would go. It has dovetail joints to the drawers they are solid wood and run fine. I think also at some time there has been 2 drop handles replaced but the back plates are original. The craftsman that made this chest used walnut as a secondary wood to dress up the interior of this chest. All interior trays are made with finely cut dovetails. There is a hidden compartment below the trays. Across the front inside is a section for storing saws. The lock works but the ring(handle) of key is broken. There are no handles- never was. This made it harder for anyone to steal your valued tools. The wood at base and back has been exposed to bugs and water. It is dry now and nothing is living in it. Painted on three sides with a beautiful traditional floral motif. I believe at least the ends have been painted with a vinegaring technique. The box is probably made of pine and the top is cracked, appears to have been repaired(maybe with a bit of putty? in a couple of places, and has damage at the corners. The hinges are newer but the original early 1800's metal straps are still intact, as are the handles at either end, and there are the best reenforcing metal pieces at the corners. This box is on a footed piece that wraps all the way around and may be newer. French Provincial Green Painted Commode in the Louis XVI Taste Probably Early 19th Century Item# 130108USB26 This is an absolute treasure of a find. This level of quality difficult to come across in tasteful proportions and embellishment. Crafted primarily of solid Golden Oak, the chest has had at least three different painted coats, the current gray-green over two prior shades of red and maroon. It has a distinctly Neoclassical presence to the form, the drawers angular and layered with stepped-corner panels of a lighter shade flanking a molded sphere around the keyhole escutcheon. The corner columns of the frame are deeply fluted, the lower portion stop-fluted with large reeds over the turned and tapered feet. The feet are also fluted in a bold and exaggerated manner, giving a sense of strength and personality to these small feet; the result ... moreis very successful, the feet actually being a significant embellishment to the overall form. The case of the commode is joined with tenon-mortised framing around chamfered oak panels that sink into miters and prevent splitting from shrinking. The only shrinkage split in the case is the top. As this was naturally affixed more permanently with pegs. This is a simply outstanding find that remains in well preserved condition; a form that simply never goes out of vogue. This is a fine investment that will be cherished in your family for many generations to come. Measurements: 47" wide x 22 1/2" deep x 35" high Condition Report: Painted surface is at least the third coat; two different shades of a red and maroon wash are visible beneath the current green. Shrink crack in the top along with scratches and wear; the wear is age appropriate and not distracting. Beneath the paint. Small replacements and repairs are hidden: old holes of prior hardware, the repaired lower portion of the rear left foot. Up for sale is a beautiful large sized Scandinavian hand painted rosemaling chest that I had sent over by container to the States. I am not sure about the year of this chest but it has a lot of patina and is one of a kind. This chest measures 32" tall. 49" long and 26" deep. There is one wooden bar inside the side of the chest to hold the top open with four small legs each measuring 2" tall.The outside is painted in a maroon color with floral designs in blues and greens. The backside of the trunk is painted in a light blue color as shown in the picture. This would be a lovely storage chest for blankets or clothing. Here is one of the most magnificent Chinese Cabinets secretaries desk that I have ever seen in person with gorgeously grained and colored solid rosewoods and secondary woods and fantastic scenes meant for scholars and scribes. There are two opposing brass plates with the Ming dynasty emblem on them on each side front of this breathtaking and gorgeous cabinet. It measures 52 inches tall by 32.5 inches wide by 14 inches deep with the fold down table top not folded out but closed up. It weighs at least 100 pounds. It features old style brasses with floral and bee engravings and delightful lucky ... moreturtle brass pulls for the slide out arm supports for the desk top and also on the interior brass door. There is a hidden secret compartment for additional storage when you lift out the interior desk table top from its two brass pull connectors. The drawers are all very deep and allow for abundant storage and there are several fish locks with tasseled keys included. There is also an interesting tasseled metal latch with which to use to snag the brass supports on the bottom double door shelves to use as a handle support to open them which would otherwise be a little more difficult to do. Here's what I stated about this spectacular cabinet's condition: Locking brass latch is missing from top of desk for fold down rosewood writing table to lock it in place. But it is made to stay in place securely without having to be locked in place. Bottom boards for side board feet have some wood missing in small spots but sideboard feet are attached securely and are very solid stable and secure. Antique Wood Wooden Chest / Marriage Box Trunk Hand Painted Flowers / Tulips
Hi. For sale an antique wood/ chest(circa 1800s/ early 1900) marriage box. I am not positive of the boxes origin but I believe this is Folk Art. There are hand painted tulips on the edges and hand painted white flowers used in early American art. The measurements are 17 inches wide or long. 9 1/2 inches in height, and 7 1/2 inches deep. The chest/ Box weighs 11 pounds. It does have wear which is to be expected for it's age. The paint on the flowers have faded in some places, there are a few cracks on the wood, one is on the bottom(does not go all the way through, and one is on the inside of the lid. Wood shrinks with age and cracks are normal. There are a few places where wood has chipped off(one on the foot) the lock is missing and there is a heavy patina especially the places that would get the most use(by the handles. The front side ... morehas a darker patina(see 2nd picture) than the back side, it was probably sitting up against a wall and was covered on the top. The feet did have felt pads at one time. The rivets(or nails) are old type nails. It is made very well, it is very heavy and sturdy and it closes fine. It is a very beautiful piece whatever its origin is and the paint job is intricate and looks like it was very time consuming. Please email with any questions I will be glad to help. Early Maine Painted Heppelwhite Chest
Wonderful Maine chest in original red paint. Found in a coastal Maine home. This rare country chest has the best form, 36" wide, 40" tall, 17.5" deep. The cutout base has a 7" lift and looks to be original height. The beautiful red paint is first coat and there is a coat of old varnish that was probably put on in the late 1800's. I would date this chest to 1850. The hardware appears to be original. Please see photos. The drawers are beautifully dovetailed and the drawer bottoms are original. It even has the original key! it has a 2 board back. A great piece of folk art in its purest condition. There are minor scratched and a small chip in the foot and a old square nail repair but absolutely nothing to detract from the rare chest! please see photos. I have handled a lot of Maine furniture in the last 30 years and this ... morehas to be one of the best chests, paint& condition wise I have found.
