This is a Vintage. Original, REAL. WWII era Advertising Poster, produced by the Lane Cedar Chest company. It is a large-format poster of an advertisement that appeared in Life Magazine in 1943. This poster was recently uncovered here in Central Illinois among a cache of War Bond Posters that a local furniture store owner kept. And kept. And kept. Thankfully. We found these posters just as the gentleman left them: neatly folded, and hardly showing a bit of"wear and tear" over the past decades. This poster is HUGE(26 inches wide by 37 inches tall) and is mad with color. The inks used in this poster are still dark and vibrant. The paper is neither faded nor brittle. The subject matter is CHARMING. A brave Vet has returned home to his Wife. And they have dreams of a new home(thanks to the GI Bill) and of course, a Lane Cedar Chest at ... morethe foot of their bed. Sigh. The condition of this poster is EXCELLENT. Is has only one very small tear and one very small hole in it. No pin holes! There are fold lines. Yes. But that would be expected after having been stored in a paper box for so long. When flattened and sealed under glass. We're sure the fold lines will melt away. THINK ABOUT IT: Posters like this generally don't survive the many years-yet this one did! That alone makes it"rare. It weighs 17 ounces. OK condition. It has a few scrapes or scars on the finish it opens and shuts solidly and easily. This box does not have the key.

The inscription inside the lid says it was presented by Wolf Furniture Co of Clearfield. PENNA. The ends have a few marks where it looks like something was spilled and damaged the finish. The overall finish has some surface marks and signs of use and wear. Hinges are solid and well attached. The lock still works, but it does not have a key. I was able to lock and unlock it with a paper clip fashioned in the shape of a key. See pictures for more detail, they are a part of the description. Items are sold AS-IS. There is a top self which is divided in two parts with original green felt liner. The chest has the original paperwork included. The locks were repaired with a safety lock in September, 2013. New key and instruction sheet included. The underside of the chest has style number 2231, and serial# 846230. The inside of the chest is in good condition. The outside of the chest shows signs of age and has some scratches and wear, from being relocated a few times, but is in good condition for its age. The three rear hinges open and close well. Vintage Miniature LANE Cedar Chest Box No Key Altavista, VA Clare Furniture Co.
Vintage Lane Salesman Sample Cedar Box. It has a cherry tint to it and is from Altavista VA but was sold by Clare Furniture Co. in Michigan. Neat piece. No key. Also. Vintage Lane cedar hope chest ready for refurbish USA made With replacement lock
LOCAL PICKUP ONLY This item has been recalled because of the locking mechanism. But I've acquired a replacement lock from Lane and will include it in the sale. This chest is a perfect candidate for restoration. The Lane cedar chest may look like it needs a lot of work. But the inside is fairly immaculate. Aside from a split in the upper drawer(see pictures) that doesn't affect the integrity at all, the inside of the chest is in perfect shape. The outside needs veneer work, and I've tried to detail in the pictures all the places where the veneer is chipped away. Still this isn't anything you couldn't fix with a trip to Home Depot. There are also scratches on the surface. And spots on the top where a lot of the veneer has worn away. There is a small bit of paint splatter on the top. Two of the rear hinges have been replaced ... morewith modern hinges, and the locking mechanism will have to be replaced(Lane will send you a new lock) All in all.
