But I am having a really hard time deciphering it, it appears to be someone's name and then a place in New York. The trunk does have railroad transportation labels on both sides of the trunk. The trunk does have some wear as you can see, original front lock hardware is missing and it does have surface loss. Some of the paint has alligatored a bit on the sides as you can see from the photos. Trunk measures 35.25 inches wide by 17.25 inches deep by 17 inches tall. It has labels for New York Central Railroad and Westcott express one side and the other side has a very partial label and from what I can tell it is in French. The front of the trunk may read Hauve(France)New York. I think this is a really nice piece, I think it has a good folk art look to it and great to find it with original green paint. The outside appears to be original and not refinished etc. It has the travel decals with dates and ports. It left from Wales England and arrived in Boston Mass in the usa. They traveled on A Cunard ship which apparently is still a company today. It has only one metal handle. The inside has been painted. It is large at approx. 33" long 22" wide and 24" tall. Estate ~ Miniature Dome Top Leather Cov. Trunk DATED 1806 Paper Label Ad INSIDE
Fabulous small/miniature size dome top trunk measuring approx. 12-1/4" wide x 6-1/2" x 6" high with original covering. Brass handle at the top& brass lock plate. The trunk is wood you can see the solid wood bottom and the hand hewn runners. The covering looks like thin leather but has some canvas like grain to it so I am unsure. Some of these tiny trunks from the 1800's were used for document boxes this one is lined with newspaper with the original trunk makers label dated 1806 still attached on the inner lid. If you like to stack trunks consider this the top of the stack! We have not seen one smaller than this just look at the detail on the tiny straps and studs ~ quality made piece take a look. I am not an expert on items we sell. I will tell you what I see when I look at the item for names. Numbers or other points ... moreof interest I may give you my opinion on the item. You are looking at an antique, vintage or decorative item. This item is on our 5 day auction bid early so you are not disappointed Conditi on: Solid construction with NO cracks in the wood. One small mouse chew at the top rim near the back(see next to last photo) that I do not consider scary due to its age. The canvas grain leather? material has rips on the backside but could easily be reglued down since it isn't missing much. There are scuffs from age related handling. The brass handle and brass lock plate lift up and down as they should. There used to be 2 leather tabs that acted as hinges that are broken and need to be replaced. HUGE Antique Dome Top Camel Back Steamer Trunk --- 35.5” x 28” x 21”
This antique dome top trunk is in marvelous condition for its age. There is no major damage to this trunk. Just normal wear and tear that you would expect in an item this old… and which I will describe in detail later on…this beauty has tons of character! The beautifully curved dome top, with 5 strips of curved 2-inch wood…is a sight to behold. Just on the top of this trunk are 18 ornately etched plates of metal hardware. The lock hardware and lock are gorgeous, too. The trunk is made from tin, metal, and wood. There is a total of seventeen 2” wood strips of varying lengths found on all sides of the trunk. The wood strips look like oak to me…they’re in excellent condition. The trunk measures about 35.5” long across the bottom x 21” wide at the ends x 28” tall to the center of the dome, which is the highest point. There is some surface rust ... moreon the trunk. Mainly on the bottom…nothing has rusted through. In many of the photos where I used flash, it appears that there is rust on a lot of the surface area. This does not show up as prominently under normal lighting conditions. I believe that perhaps the trunk has been varnished and/or stained at one time… there is a beautiful glossy finish to the tin surface. Most of the ornate hardware is in excellent condition, also…a few pieces are bent or have minor damage. There’s lots of surface dents on the tin, as you would expect. The lock does not work. The hinged lock tabs do not close. The hinge inside of the trunk that holds the lid open is broken…it needs repair or replacement. Wonderful antique wooden storage trunk made by B. C. Sweetser& Sons of Portsmouth. N.H. in 1875. We were able to date the trunk as it originally was lined with old newspaper dated June 1875. The newspaper was removed as it was heavily water stained, torn, brittle and musty. We were able to save the original manufacturer label in the center of the interior of the lid. Interior is now clean and can be used to store items. The exterior is original(not refinished, only cleaned) with a warm dark wood patina; original lock(no key) and iron handles. Dome style lid. Original brass tacks on exterior. Solid original bottom. Great trunk for the collector! Measures 28 inches by 15 inches; 12 inches tall on the sides. Charming all-wood domed child's trunk circa 1880s. Has original top handle and fantastic front brass hinge. Hinge has a mark. Patent date of 1880s(I think) Great shape and design. Adorable size at 14" tall x 16" across front, 13" deep. It is utterly charming and substantial enough to hold things. Beautiful outside condition on wood which might be pine. Two splits on top. Front must have had leather straps at one time but are now gone but 3 of 4 metal clips remain. Inside is unrestored; no interior tray.

Beautiful Refinished Dome Top Civil War Trunk w/ Tray, Lock & Key
Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk with Working Lock and key. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks. Each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice, clean refinished dome top Civil War trunk. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside and out. Once we removed the paper from this gorgeous trunk we sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. On this trunk are two new Amish leather handles. The latches on this beautiful trunk ... morealso work to keep the lid secure. Also on the lid there is trunk stay to keep the lid open when wanted. The lock for this trunk comes with two working keys. This trunk has a lot of fancy metal hardware that has also been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. There is also the original tray to fit the inside of this trunk so you have two levels of storage. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look along with painting the metal black. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. This beautiful trunk would look very nice placed at the foot of a bed. It could also be used by a college student. The size of this trunk measures 26"length x 14" width x 17" height. The two of us love refinishing trunks bringing back the beauty into a piece from the past. This trunk is no exception to the rule. The hardware, original tray and being a Civil War trunk itself, make this one a thing of beauty in anyone's home.

Charming Antique Dome Oube / Oak Wood Small Trunk, c 1880, Great Brass Hinge
Charming all-wood domed small trunk circa 1880s. Has original top handle and fantastic front brass hinge. Hinge has a mark. Patent date of 1880s(I think) Great shape and design. Very useable size at 14" tall x 16" across front, 13" deep. It is utterly charming and substantial enough to hold linens or other objects. It certainly was too large for a doll trunk so might have been for a child but it's heavy and substantial so was not a plaything. Beautiful outside condition on wood which looks to be pine with oak trim. A couple of expected splits on top. Front must have had leather straps at one time but are now gone; 3 of 4 metal clips remain. I always thought I'd buy a leather belt at a thrift store and add straps but never did because it's great the way it is. Inside is unrestored and original(but cleaned by me) ... morewith no interior tray. Would look great at foot of single bed. Shipping might be less to California and will refund anything over $5.

Antique Wood Trunk, dome top, front doors, great storage spaces. original iron
I have had this trunk for about 15 years and it has provided great storage and looks beautiful in my living room. The iron and internal structure are in great condition and definitely original. This is a rare piece. I was not the purchaser. However, and therefore I do not have any information about its age and origin. It is definitely old and original though. I am moving house and do not have room for it. It's heavy, probably more than 200 lbs and very solidly built. Anyone who can provide further information please help. I know it cost a lot more than this listed price.

Antique Embossed Tin Ladies Dome Top Steamer Trunk French Country Romantic
A sweet Victorian style antique steamer trunk from approximately the late 1800's. It measures 28" long X 17" wide x 22' high(at the highest point in the center of the lid) It's covered with a dark red/ dark rust colored floral patterned embossed tin and the tin is in very nice condition. It has a dome top with hardwood slats that are held in place with brass tacks. It has the remnants of a chromolithograph on the inside of the lid featuring a child holding a kitten but it's in poor condition. The trunk used to be lined with paper but most of it has worn off over the years. The bottom of the trunk has 3 plain hardwood slats running across the bottom over black tin and there are 4 small wheels(one on each corner) that make it easy to move around on any flat hard surface. The trunk is nice in dry inside and there are ... moreno moth ball odors. Just a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. The black banding on the lid sides needs repair and the hasps on the front do not close tightly because the lid does not fit properly. The leather handles need to be replaced and the original wood tray is missing. The locking mechanism in the center is very plain and it appears to be damaged. Please view all of the photos, they are an important part of the description. This decorative old trunk could be a worthy restoration project which will allow you to add additional storage to you home. There are several sites on-line that offer free advise on how to restore antique trunks and the majority of them sell the parts you'll need. Leather handles, etc. can be purchased inexpensively at these same sites and I believe they are also available here on Ebay. Antique Miniature French Fashion Bisque Doll Accessory Jewelry Trunk Fan Dome
Featured here for your bidding consideration is this lot of antique miniature accessories in the perfect scale to pair with your favorite antique German and French fashion dolls! Each is a little treasure by itself. But when grouped together you have the start of a magnificent trousseau for a special doll! For size reference, I show the pieces displayed with a 10" parian type doll and an 18" German bisque Kestner doll(dolls not included) The items are described in greater detail below. There is a wondrous little mother of pearl shell jewelry box(2 3/8" W by 1 1/4" T and 1 3/8" D) with four pieces of doll's jewelry inside. The tiny trunk has four small carved bone feet. When you depress the knob on the front it opens to reveal a velvet lined interior. The lid and bottom are fitted with bone. There is a tiny 1/2" ... morelong brass locket with a 9" chain. A miniature brass charm imprinted with The Lord's Prayer(just under a half an inch) and the tiniest little acorn brooch(also just under 1/2" set with two seed pearls. It is a gold metal and is likely a high school pin from 1914. As well there is a small silver colored charm resembling a pipe(7/8" For the dresser top there is a tiny 1 3/4" ormolu frame prong set with six colorful rhinestones. It holds the sweetest antique photograph of a baby in a stroller. There is a built-in easel on the back for display purposes. A tiny jeweler's box. All of 1 1/4" diameter, holds an antique German frozen charlotte bisque doll measuring just over one inch. The box is sweetly decorated with a bit of Victorian scrap that depicts a pretty child. The beautiful antique paper and wood hand fan. Opens and closes just like a full sized fan, but measures a wee 3" wide when opened, and is just 2 1/8" long closed. It has a gold wire handle, a pale pink tassel, and is decorated with hand painted pink chrysanthemums with an Asian influence. Delicate and exquisite! Antique Late 1800's Dome Top Humpback Steamer Trunk Hardwood Slats
A large hump back antique steamer trunk that dates to approximately the late 1800's. It measures 31" long X 20" wide x 27' high(at the highest point in the center of the lid) It's covered with tin and there are attractive hardwood slats that have developed a beautiful patina over the past century. The wood slats and tin are all held in place with brass tacks and very ornate hardware. The wood and metal on this trunk has taken a lot of abuse but these were made to stand up to even the roughest handling and the trunk is still basically nice and sturdy. The trunk used to be lined with paper but it's either been taken off or it's worn off over the years and now it's pretty much just down to bare wood. Which will make it easier to work with when you go to restore it prior to placing linens or blankets in it for ... morestorage. The trunk is nice in dry inside and there are no moth ball odors, just a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. If you'd like to store things inside most folks like to sand down the interior and then seal it or line it with cedar which eliminates any lingering odors.The hasps on the front do not close tightly because the lid does not fit properly. The leather handles need to be replaced and the original wood tray is missing. The bottom of the trunk has 2 plain hardwood slats running across the edges over black tin and there are 3 small metal wheels on the bottom corners(one is missing and needs to be replaced) these little metal wheels make it easy to move around on any flat hard surface. We are unsure if the lock works properly because there is no key so it will be shipped in the open position. Antique Dome Victorian Steamer Bride Trunk, Unique Alligator Embossed Tin,Lithos
Dome top steamer chest/trunk. Bride or wedding trunk, or ship/stagecoach travel trunk. Of wood and metal construction, metal embossed outer layer, wood slat trim, most of the original antique hardware embellishments, a number of the pieces stamped Pat Mar 168(may or may not be a partial patent date- please see detail below from a restorer clearly more knowledgeable than I am) ADDITIONAL AND INTERESTING INFORMATION provided by a very nice and knowledgeable Ebayer(a steamer trunk restorer) who indicates. The specific embossing on the tin exterior is referred to as an"alligator pattern" Not very common. Lithographs(yours appear to be original) were not developed and put on trunks until the mid 1800's. Trunks made in the 1600's were made primarily of animal skin.Which rarely survived due to their deteriation. Also that style ... moreof lock was manufactured in mid to late 1800's. Also the embossed tin covering, the 2 front latches with the + were not made until that same time period. What the 3 numbers on the trunk are for, I don't know, but Definetly not a patent# which many trunks have on the lock. All the interior compartments are intact. With original linen-type covering over the compartment lids, with original pictorial lithographs and elaborate borders. Original graphic paper lining also intact on the underside of the compartment lids and the bottom section of the trunk– see condition in photos. The spots of discoloration in places may be rust coming through from the metal; bidder to determine. There are 5 compartments in the upper section– two in the lid, and 3 in the top tray which includes one long compartment across the back(try to ignore the glaring blue felt lining in the compartments and bottom of the trunk, but note that I did not lift it to see what’s underneath) Please check all views of the photos for condition of the outer embossed skin/metal/wood(a few dents and splits in the metal but I didn’t see missing sections anywhere) Missing or replaced hardware(looks like a few pieces are

Beautiful Victorian trunk made of oak. Tin and iron. Leather straps on the side are both intact, which is rare. Inside is untouched-till is present and there is a pocket on top for storage. Very nice dome top doll trunk with grain painting. Original iron banding, original latch and a nice fabric interior. No key. 15 3/4" long x 9 1/4" deep x 10 1/4" high. The condition is very good with some paint nicks and a few little stains and a minor crack on the top. The lift lid on the interior compartment is partially torn but not completely detached. I see that a couple of my photos make the trunk appear slightly lopsided. This is because the slate walkway is a bit uneven, the trunk is not at all lopsided. completely refinished dome top steamer trunk from the 1890s the exterior has been stripped. Sanded, cleaned, brushed, dried and sealed with a quality satin finish. I have installed a pair of double ply leather handles made by the local Amish here in central Pennsylvania. The interior has been stripped. Sanded, brushed clean, dried and sealed with a quality finish before covering it with fabric. I also added a border and a period correct copy of a lithograph often found inside trunks. Some say fabric was never used but I have seen it on rare occasions and always in much better shape then your typical wall paper. so for personal preference and long lasting I usually use fabric to finish my projects. I always stay in the period when replacing a part. Nails, rivets, style of handles etc, I will however use modern fasteners if they are not visible ... moreon the finished project. this particular trunk measurements are 34" side to side. 19" back to front, 23" high. it does not have a key and will not lock by accident. Nice solid pine wood trunk refinished at some point in its life to a clean wood finish. The metal strap trims and lock are painted black. The supporting wood trim slats that support the dome portion are oak wood for strength. The grain in the natural oak wood gives the pine wood a nice contrast. This is a perfect size trunk for your bedroom measuring approx. 29" wide x 17-1/4" x 21" tallest. The interior is also very clean. The lift out tray compartment is wood not cardboard it sits on the wood rails to hold your dainty or small items while in storage. The handles are leather they look original to me, both are present. Someone added strips of ribbon like material to decorate the interior. There is a lovely Victorian lady face on the inside lid. I have seen people put wallpaper inside these trunks to match their room, leave ... moreit clean wood or paper it your choice. The buckles are still attached where the leather belt used to go around the trunk. The bottom/floor of the trunk is solid wood. Antique John T. Barnum Dome Top Wardrobe Trunk Vintage Rare 1906
We have here a nice and rare antique wardrobe trunk. This trunk was manufactured by the Barnum Trunk Company in 1906(no affiliation to P.T. Barnum) The trunk is what you would have seen your typical wealthy traveler use at the turn of the twentieth century. A little research on the internet yielded the following information: John T. Barnum was born in Rochester. NY on March 5, 1857. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic in Troy. NY in 1879 He moved to Minneapolis. MN in 1880 and began working for D.D. Whitney, founder of the original trunk factory in 1872 In September 1880. Barnum and a colleague, Mr. Goodrich, took possession of the company from the ailing Mr. Whitney The Barnum Trunk Company was incorporated in 1905 This trunk is a dome top trunk measuring 53" high. 22" wide and 21" deep. It has a swing out drawer section ... moreand a roll out clothes rack. Both the trunk and the rack have the Barnum plaques on them from Minneapolis, MN. On the bottom of the rack the stamp reads Pat. Feb. 20, 1906. I have 33 photos of the trunk, if you are interested in seeing them send me a message with your email and I can send the rest of them. The photos show the condition of the trunk. At some point, the trunk was painted the oil-based blue shown in the photos. There are some original hangers and straps on in the trunk also. The only major problems I see are the missing leather handles, one wooded wheel is missing from the roll out rack and the key is missing. Keep in mind this item is over 100 years old, and it likely did a lot of travelling, so it's not perfect. I'm basing my price on a couple different Barnum trunks I've seen sell on the internet. Resembling a pirate's treasure chest. This Antique Humpback Trunk is a fabulous example of the fine workmanship that emerged from the Victorian Era. Measuring 32" long, 17 1/2" wide, and 22" deep, it's large size is perfect for storing linens, towels, and valuables. The tin clad exterior features a lovely embossed flower pattern, protective wood slats, and the original hardware. Four steel wheels on the bottom make for easy mobility. Circa 1890's. This Humpback Trunk is in good condition with minor exterior wear appropriate to its age. The lift-out pine tray fits perfectly and has no cracks or breaks. 18th century antique trunk deer hide cow animal hide dome traveling chest EB
Late 18th century deer or cow hide covered some top wooden trunk or chest. Adorned with breads studs and donning the initials E.B. Just amazing piece of history. Could be fixed up or appreciated for what it is! Unusual to see paper lined inside so well intact especially with original tag on the inside describing some maker of some elements of the trunk- Sam L. Ash who I had read about once being well renowned engraver of the last quarter of the 18th century. This trunk does have condition issues. Please review photos carefully and ask any and all questions prior to any bidding. Notes: hide is detaching and or missing in numerous areas, hair missing from sections, signs of water damage in small areas, peeling paper inside, general wear and tear.

1870-1890 Victorian Dome Top Doll Chest Steamer Trunk ~ Original and Unrestored
This eye-catching Victorian dome-top/ camel top trunk is estimated to be from the 1870-1890. It is constructed of light weight wood and is covered in a multi-step process: printed paper is reinforced with wooden slats and then covered in tin pieces. The original maker’s label is on the interior lid of the trunk and depicts a young girl. The trunk was designed to mimic the steamer trunks used by adults of the times. As is common with these trunks. The handles are missing on both ends. Replacements are available on eBay if you choose to replace them. The trunks’ lid closes completely but the clasps do not extend far enough to hook. We have not been able to determine the cause of this but it is still fully functional for storage and display. Beautiful Refinished Dome Top Steamer Antique Trunk w/ Tray, Picture,Lock & Key
With the holiday season soon approaching what a wonderful gift idea it would be to provide that loved one with a antique trunk. This Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk comes with Working Lock. Original tray, original wooden handles, original picture and key. Here at Trunks-n-treasures we take pride in the trunks that we refinish. We have refinished hundreds of trunks, each one with the craftsmanship that we have learned from growing up around our grandparents watching them run and refinish furniture in their antique shop. This particular trunk is a very nice. Clean refinished dome top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then removed the paper from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of pine ... morewood with oak slats. Once we removed the paper we sanded all the wood and then applied tung oil to it as a finish. After much research we have found that tung oil works best because it replenishes the wood and prevents it from drying out so quickly. On this trunk are the two original wooden handles both in great condition. The latches on this beautiful trunk also work to keep the lid secure. The lid of this particular trunk also has the original picture in great condition. Also on the lid there is trunk stay to keep the lid open when wanted. The lock for this trunk comes with two working keys. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has also been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age there are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. We have also refinished the original in the inside of this trunk so you have two levels of storage. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied tung oil to the bottom to give it a new refinished look. The bottom also has the original casters which still roll very well. Vintage Industrial Antique Dome Top Camelback Victorian Steamer Trunk Footlocker
This old steamer trunk has plenty of character on the outside and a nice interior. There is a large white paint stain down the front. The leather handles are broken, it is missing a stamped metal flourish, and there is general patina of age and wear and tear. That said, though, there is a beautiful hunting scene inside the lid and an interior that is surprisingly nice in relation to the outside. There are still some rips and splits in the interior lining, but it is almost entirely there. There is some mothball odor, but not unpleasant. The trunk measures 32 1/2" L x 16" W x 18" H. The trunk is 30 1/2" x 15" inside, with slats along either end to support a tray(not included) It measures 12 1/2" to the lip of the opening inside with 4 1/2" of clearance under the lid.
