Here we have an incredible hunter green wardrobe trunk made by the Dread-Naught Luggage Company of Petersberg. Virginia around the 1930's. The interior has been completely recovered in a stunning ivory/ cream satin fabric. It has a locking mechanism for the drawers in addition to the exterior lock and the keys are included for both. The exterior has the wear and tear you would expect for its age and the leather handle is worn and torn as well, all of which add to its antique character. The top latch is off, but we have it; someone who is handy could probably easily re-attach it. The lower latch and lock keep it securely closed without it. It measures 42" high, 21 1/2" deep and 22 1/2" wide(10 1/2" for the hanging side and 12"for the drawer side) It would be great for storage, coffee table and/or addition to a ... moresteampunk décor. There is a paper note on the top. Which would easily come off, stating the last time it was used was 1925. All original and unmolested, with removable tray and compartments adorned with the original lithographs. The interior design, with the lithos, look like the MM Secor or Martin Maier trunks I have seen listed, including the size, look at some of them. The exterior is ornately decorated with iron, steel and leather. A lot of the ornamental leather has cracked and flaked off, the right latch has a break in the loop, it still functions fine. Antique 1860's Stage Coach Wagon rare trunk leather brass nails old chest
Selling this rarely found stagecoach travel trunk from circa 1860 that has been refinished. The leather of the top of the trunk had shrunk to the point where it could not be reattached to the sides so I covered it with a black buffalo hide that is thick and comfortable to sit on. I think the results are pretty good.There is a minimal color difference between the old and original leather. Every brass nail is original to this trunk. Because the original leather could not be reattached to the top. I built a wooden seat, added some padding and covered it with the new hide. It functions perfectly as a seat. The interior of the trunk has a small door. It is through this small door that users would store their laundry. There is some available space to store some small items. The leather on the bottom. The sides on the top and bottom, are original. ... moreThe dust covers on the sides are original, but the cover on the front is new, as is the lid lifter. There is a lock behind the lid lifter, but there is no key. The interior is lined with come cloth that is dirty in a couple of places. I added two stays to support the lid. Handels are original, not sure how much weight they can support. Over all the trunk's dimensions are 24 x 13 x 14 1/2. I attached a picture of what the trunk looked like before refinished it. Selling this old travel trunk/chest that I have refinished. The trunk is covered with old brass tacks. The top has a design that resembles a football along with the letters I.W. Prior to refurbishing the chest was covered in deerhide and the brass tacks shown. The interior had newspaper dated 1827. Prior to staining the wood had an almost white color to it. As a result. The Early American Minwax stain looks great on it. The trunk was treated with three coats of polyuerothane. The handles are original as is the lock. There is no key. I add the stays to the trunk. Refinished Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Straps, Key, & Tray
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Interior Tray Here is a real nice refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 21 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 16 1/2 inches. We have removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This lovely dome top appears to be made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. Some of the boards are rough cut. lumber. These are boards that were used straight off the saw mill and still have the saw blade marks on them since they were not run through a planer. There ... moreare also some typical older character marks or distress marks on the wood which include older nicks and dings in various places along with some hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have some form of distress marks including these that we have mentioned. This dome top comes with the original working lock. It appears that the key hole cover is missing, although we have still matched up a key that does activate this lock. The front latches are original and do work properly since the springs are still in good condition. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The fancy slat board cap metal that drapes down over thr front from the dome top has patent dates on it. It is hard to clearly make out the date. We have shown a picture of one of these patent dates. It looks to read, Patd Mar 15(or 16) 80" referring to 1880. The side handles were gone and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Refinished Flat Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Straps, Key, & Tray
Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Working Lock With Key, and Original Interior Tray Here is a really nice large refinished flat top steamer trunk that dates to around 1900 or so. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 24 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 1/4 inches. This trunk is made up of pine base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. The wood on this trunk has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The base wood on the top between the slat boards is rough cut wood. It is not smoothed out like the boards on the rest of the trunk. You might notice this in a close up picture that we have provided. There is a slight contrast in color on these top boards compared to the rest of the boards on the ... moretrunk. The wood is in pretty good condition throughout this trunk. There are some older typical distress marks in various places which include some older nicks and dings, mostly concentrated on to the outer slat boards. This is a true flat top trunk with no factory arch. This gorgeous trunk has a lot of fancy metal hardware. The metal components that make up this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk comes with a signed working lock. It is signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. We have shown a picture of this signature and we have matched up a key that does work properly in this lock. The front latches are original and in good working condition since the springs are still intact. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched handle straps. This trunk originally had a pair of leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones were. Humpback Trunk, or Dome Top Trunk. In the past these trunks were used as luggage for prolonged trips by train. Steam-ship or stage-coach. Today these trunks are often considered family heirloom pieces. And make for stylish home decor storage pieces. I am not experienced enough to date this piece. However, I found two different date codes on the piece-Pat Jul 972/Pat March 1880. I believe it to be July 9 1872 and March 1880. Antique Trunk / Chest 30x18x20 Inches
I wish I knew more about this trunk. But I simply don't know anything about antiques. I purchased this at an impressive antique shop(south of Pittsburgh) for more than what I am listing it for. Sorry about the poor lighting in the pictures. I included the dimensions in the description. It is obviously"distressed" But other than that, very structurally sound. The only knock I could put on it is that there is a"slight fracture" in the top. It is slight though. If you look in the 3rd picture, there is a line that runs across the top from left to right. It is very fine and hasn't caused me any problems. It came like this and my original thought was to put my 60+ pound plasma TV on top of the chest. I am 100% confident it could hold that weight and there would be no problem or further fracturing. But over time, I'm ... moresure it wouldn't be good for the piece itself, so I never tried. Antique Wood Leather Travel Chest / Trunk c. Late 1700's
Up for auction is an Antique Vintage Wood Leather Traveling Chest circa late 1700’s. The chest is made out of wood. Was once covered in cow hide(most of which has worn off) and has leather hinges. It measures 17.5 inches long x 10 inches wide x 7.5 inches high and has a metal clasp/ lock(with no key) The top part of the lock is no longer attached to the lid. The handle on the top is also missing. The inside of the chest is lined with newspaper which has a date of Tuesday. April 1, 1794 from the Catskill Packet. The chest was purchased from an estate sale and I have no further information or back ground on it. Shipping includes insurance.

A17-K-572-310, SYMS 2556, I have done a little research and this box appears to have come from a US Landing Craft Mechanized Mark 3 or LCM(3) that was used to storm the beaches of Normandy on D-Day in World War II(WWII) I can not say for certain that this case was there. But ... morethe LCM3 was definitely in use at the time: Built by Higgins Industries. The LCM3 Landing Craft could deliver a 30 ton tank-but was mainly used as a troop and cargo transport. They first saw action on Tarawa in 1943, but also delivered deadly cargo to the shores of the Mediterranean and North Atlantic during the Invasion of Normandy. Higgins LCM(3) Landing Craft Originally developed by the British in 1920. The flat-bottom(LCM) Mechanized Landing Craft was constructed of steel and powered by two diesel engines, twin screws and rudders, which could be controlled from the pilothouse. These'walled barges' were the link between the beach and the large transport ships that sat offshore. The LCMs' huge bow ramps dropped upon landing to allow men and equipment to"hit the beach" in an amphibious assault. One of the most famous uses of the LCM was during the Normandy landings on D-Day. June 6th 1944. I have searched all over the internet and have not found anything like this. This is definitely a rare find and would make a great addition to any collector's home! Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps and Interior Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps and Buckles and Interior Tray Here is a real primitive refinished steamer trunk or antique chest from the 1800's. This one is made up of pine base wood with poplar outer slat boards. It is probably from the Civil War era and has the original lock. The lock is there. But we could not find a key that works with it. So we are selling it in"As Is" condition as far as the lock goes. The trunk has the following dimension s: from left to right across the front is 27 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 12 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some typical older distress marks on the wood which include older nicks and dings in the wood along with some stress cracks. A small ... morepiece of one of the top outer slat boards has been chipped away, probably many years ago. We have run a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top. These will secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled. There were no front latches on this trunk. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with black leather straps. All of our leather products for these trunks are obtained from an Amish man near our home in Pennsylvania. You might want to use this trunk to store your Civil War items, coins, or other personal valuables inside. Our trunks have been used to display teddy bear and doll collections. Going to the inside, we have made a nice tray for the interior. The interior tray and interior wood have been given two coats of polyurethane. The interior wood is rough cut boards with the saw blade marks still on them. A nice picture of a Victorian girl posing has been added to the underside of the top. Going underneath the trunk to the exterior bottom, it is in decent shape and we have finished the bottom with a coat of polyurethane to make the trunk overall cleaner. This is a fantastic vintage cedar-lined brass trunk with wooden feet. It stands 18" high. Measurements of the trunk without feet are 30.5" x 16" x 16" The lock is no longer operational and stays closed with a magnet for convenience of use. It is heavy. Strong, sturdy and very usable. This is in used-vintage condition. The brass shows wear and use with scratches and tiny dings. Mostly concentrated on the top. The top looks to have been heavily used, but this adds to its vintage charm. The lock, metal handles and wooden feet also show wear. Overall, this is a great, hard to find vintage piece! This is from WWII and has survived at least 70 years. It is worn and by no means new. This is a very nice example from the period and a great piece of our American history. Snowden Haywood was born on June 14. 1922 in Scarsdale, Westchester County, New York. He was 2nd Lieutenant, F.A. Army of the U.S. 263rd Field Artillery Battalion. He was killed in action on December 26. 1944 in Luxembourg. An extract from a letter of commendation by Maj. Gen. W. S. Paul. Former Division Commander, referring to the Battle of the Ardennes: Despite seemingly insurmountable difficulties of terrain and blizzard conditions. Our artillery at all times was in a position to support the attack. Moreover, the accurate and timely massing of its fires on innumerable occasions broke up enemy counterattacks before they could be launched, inflicting unbearable losses ... moreon the enemy. The conduct of the forward observer and liaison plane groups was marked with many feats of heroism and self-sacrifice. At no time, day or night, were observed fires lacking. Nice Refinished Flat Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest w/Straps, Lock & Key
Beautiful Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk with Working Lock. Leather Straps and 2 Keys My husband and I have refinished over 120 trunks. Each one is a treasure of its own. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is a very nice decorative refinished flat top steamer trunk. The particular d imensions for this are 36 1/2" length. 21 1/2" width and 24" heig ht. The size of this trunk will make a great coffee table. This particular trunk is pine with oak or ash slat boards. We refinished this particular trunk by taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and a little on the inside due ... moreto the rough cut wood that the inside was made out of. We didn't want to alter that finish too much. We then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. One of the stress cracks is on the top. If you notice it in the picture. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. We also put on a new lock with 2 working keys. Along with the lock we attached two new Amish made black leather handle straps and buckles to help the lid stay securely shut when wanted. We then attached to the lid of this trunk a stay so it will remain opened when wanted. Thank you for taking the time to look at our trunks. A trunk is a great addition and centerpiece with many uses.
