It's a beautiful trunk with tons of character and that true folk art flavor. Many trunks that were highly decorated like this were wedding trunks but who can know? It has a hinged lid as you can see in the pictures. The trunk has red white and blue with some green accents. The paint appears to be painted over what appears to be a green trunk that has some Romanian name lettering on the front. It was probably a trunk that originally came over by ship then painted by the owner after getting to America. This is all original and has nicks. Chips and scrapes, and worm marks on it as you'd expect from an item of this age. The painting on the front and sides is very colorful and worn through several areas to base color. Wow! That's amazing! The trunk is wonderfully hand painted. Inside. The trunk is clean. There's a little tray on the left side inside, and it still has the original cover or lid to the tray. One of the hinges on the lid of the trunk was replaced at some point but is still old. The hardware on the sides is old and ornate. There are no square nails in this trunk that we can see and there are a number of worm holes at the bottom of the front and under the front lip. This is typical for old trunks like this as they've been around the block(and world) It's an nice size and is 39" wide(at the lid) L x 16" W x 14" H. It weighs about 50 lbs. we'd guess. This is a very nice trunk for those of you who love Primitives or folk art. It's one of a kind! It would certainly make for an interesting conversation piece. Thank you for looking at this item. Still has the original paper label from the READING STEAMER TRUNK COMPANY, the makers of the trunk. Includes key that operates the lock correctly. But the lock latch bows outward from body of trunk. I haven't attempted to push the lock mechanism in to see if the lock latches the entire trunk, leaving that for the new owner to decide what to do. Side latches function correctly, securing the lid. All hardware appears to be intact and complete. Leather side handle straps are intact and secure, but they do have lots of surface cracking wear. Green and Black trunk with wood details. Includes original cardboard tray insert. The right side has a cardboard ... morelid cover. But that is bent, creased, torn at hinge, basically shot. Interior paper litho has water staining inside trnnk, and inside lid. Has some general scratch wear, surface wear from use. Some dents to the metal hardware, one left corner piece is banged up. A rare old seamens chest as these are very hard to find now. Mid 1800s era. Lots of genuine aged character, bumps and bruises gained over its working life. Original strong rope handles through elm side blocks. A bit of the left top side trim has broken and the skirting is to all four sides having had some hefty old nails driven into it over the years, lovely mellow waxed pine, recently chemically stripped down so no live anywhere. dimensions: 38" width x 19" depth x 18.75" height approx. uk mainland postage is £29.95 due to size and weight although collection is welcome. Very old all wood 1942 vintage trunk. I believe it is actually a WW2 Shwayder Brothers. Inc. 1942 U.S. MILITARY WOOD FOOT LOCKER. It has lost most of the paint and someone has put vintage superheroes stickers all over it many. Many years ago. All the hardware is metal including the latches, corners and all the ends. One corner piece is missing. The handles on the sides are wood. All the hinges and latches work. Inside lid reads Shwayder Bros Inc 1942. If you look closely at the pictures of the lid you can see there is also some stencil letter writing. I can not make out what it says but it appears to have originally taken up almost the entire lid. Antique 19th Century Victorian Child's Doll Trunk Chest Box
Up for auction is an original 19th Century Victorian Child’s Doll Trunk. Everything looks original. It measures approximately 16 inches across the front and 9.5 inches across the side and approximately 10.25 inches tall at its highest point. It is not flat on top but is slightly domed(see pics) The lid closes and it is aligned. The hinges attached to the lid are firm. There is no key. The tray is missing. The leather handles on the side are missing. The inside of the trunk smells like wood and not mildew or mustiness. There is a cut out portion on the front of the top of the trunk(see pics) It has splits. Cracks and paper covering is peeled and falling off and leather has cracks. Some metal parts are damaged and bent. Hinges do not hold the lid up when fully extended. Obviously, based upon my pictures, this trunk needs tender loving care ... moreand complete restoration. This was really a great find.a turn of the century Late Ottoman Turkish or Middle Eastern inlaid with mother of pearl walnut chest or dowry or blanket box. The pattern involves stars and other geometric shapes and some carvings that resemble birds and it is in very good condition. Patina is beautiful and finish is original. The base is an interesting combination of incised lines and inlaid mother of pearl stars on a reticulated base. It is all hand dovetailed. Height = 19 5/8" Length = 33 5/8" Depth = 16 5/8" Add a piece of glass to the top and have the perfect coffee or even side table. These old antique inlaid mother of pearl chests and tables and trunks are very flexible as they can be added to man different decors. It would look fantastic in an a room with off white colors as it would really pop! Victorian Steamer Trunk 34 x 22.5 H x 19 This is a versatile and attractive true antique from the late 19th century. A medium-sized Victorian steamer trunk made of wood, trimmed with tin and steel hardware, and featuring a flat lid. It’s 34 inches wide and 22.5 inches tall– perfect for a coffee table, lamp table, or bedroom storage. The trunk is constructed of a pine box with hardwood slats across the top and around all four sides. The interior has been completely cleaned and refinished with a reproduction Victorian lithograph inside the lid. The hinges are tight and the lid fits securely when closed. Yet opens easily. The hasp on the right side does not lock, but does not compromise the closed lid. Although there is no key, the lock appears to be in good working condition and a local locksmith could provide a replacement key, if desired. ... moreThe restoration features new stitched leather handles(mounted with the original end caps) and matching leather belts with brass buckles to replicate the originals. A unique feature is that the belts run through slots in the rails- not over them- providing a flat surface if the trunk should be used as a table. It also has been fitted with a brass-plated lid stay to hold the lid open. A new removable tray made of poplar and pine replaces the original insert that was missing in the restoration. It is solidly built. Clean, and has no musty or age odors. The bottom of the trunk. Which is tin-covered with three hardwood runners and steel feet.
