This is a really nice looking piece of social history. The trunk is wooden based with an outer green hessian textured layer and reinforced with 4 bent beech bands with brass cornering. Dimensions: approx 94cm in Length. 53cm in Width, 33cm in Depth. The trunk has three latches but no key and both ends retain the broken reminents of the leather carrying handles. There is also evidence of past travel stickers pertaining to `Luggage In Advance ` which add to the items authentic charm, Inside is vintage stripe paper lined. Dry but marked. This trunk would add an enormous amount of Old English. Shabby Chic charm to your environment, either used for storage or even as an occasional/coffee table ... moreetc. This is not 21st Century perfection. Antique steamer trunk Hump back Dome lid child size chest Tin wood or cardboard
This is bigger than a doll trunk I think. But smaller than an adult size, so I think it was probably for a child to use while traveling or for storage. 20" wide, 12 1/2" tall and 11 1/2" deep. I think it has a this layer of tin with a faux wood grain patter on it and that is either over cardboard or wood. The chest is not super heavy, about 9 1/2 pounds, so it is probably a combination of both materials. Please use the pictures to determine condition. You can tell this was used and it is showing its age. One side has the remnants of what looks like was a leather handle, but the other side does not even have the metal parts of that handle. There are some rivets missing, one of the latches on the front side is missing parts and none of the three seems functional. One of the hinges on the back side is painted green. The tin covering ... moreis scuffed and dented. Still, overall condition for its age, is not really that bad. The lid opens and closes easily and the whole trunk is still solid, not wobbly. I don't have a tray or a key for this one.

Antique Old Chest Dome Trunk (Steamer) w/ Shelf / Embossed Tin (Grecian Design)
Beautiful antique chest/ trunk dating to around 1890. It is slightly domed and ornately decorated with a beautiful Grecian pattern embossed tin. It still has original shelf. Two latches work and hinges are secure and operatable, nice size to compliment a room and to store those living room blankets. It does have its flaws as one would expect. Two castors are missing. Leather handles of course gone and although it still has most functionality, it is old, the wood has aged(crack in top, but still solid as supported by metal, tin and wood support"things" but should be primarily a decorative piece with moderate storage use. It still has good integrity, just would not want the kids making a fort out of it.Also, the metal is dinged in two places on top and the tin is missing a small(quarter size) spot on top at far rear and is damaged ... morein back(please see pictures) Otherwise the metal is good antique trunk condition, as it is in original condition. It could be refurbished, but considering current appeal, factoring cost it just doesn't make sense. It's 130 years old, we want it to say I'm old, but still good looking. What can I say about this? Shown is an awesome old steamer chest that has it's roots in Scotland. It even shows the passenger's name. A. Hanning, and destination on it. It shows normal wear for something this age. It measures 36" tall by 21" wide by 14 1/2" deep. I'm sure there is some very interesting history and stories behind this trunk. Very Nice Fancy Refinished Belber Brand Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Manufacturer's Brass Tag, and Brass Working Lock With Key Here is a refinished signed Belber trunk from around the early 1900's. This one sure is fancy with lots of metal hardware all over it. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 35 inches. From floor to top is 14 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This trunk is made up of the original laminate from the factory. It is some type of pressed composition over some type of wood. We have given the laminated areas a nice dark reddish mahogany color and then polyurethane over the mahogany stain. The edge banding with all the nails in it appears to be also a type of composition and it is a brownish color which we have freshened up. ... moreThis beautiful flat top has the brass manufacturer's tag. It says, Belber Make" Philadephia, New York, Chicago" They must have had a few factories producing their trunks. This Belber trunk comes with the original brass working lock. We have semi polished the brass lock and matched up a key that does work properly in this lock. The remaining metal parts on this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The front latches are also original and in good working condition since the springs are still intact. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with black leather straps. This lovely trunk originally had leather straps. They were missing, so we have run a pair of nice Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front, across the top, and down the back in the same location where the original ones were. These leather straps with roller buckles are functional and in addition to the lock and latches, they help secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled. Ladycomet Refinished Victorian Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest, Straps&Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles and Interior Tray We are selling a nice refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's. This trunk is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. This one has some typical older nicks and dings in various places. These character marks are present on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. There were some small holes in the wood where either knots were missing or something, and we did fill these holes in. There were several on the front and several on the back, ... morenot on the top or on the sides. These boards were free of any holes. This particular trunk doesn't have hardly any stress cracks in the wood. Usually these trunks do, but this one is good. There is no lock mechanism, although there is a brass square lock plate at the front. The top part of the lock that swings down into the lock plate appears to be original, but there is no engagement mechanism behind this brass lock plate which someone may have put on this trunk some time ago. The lock plate is the only brass on this trunk. We have brush painted the remaining metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The front two latches are cast iron and they do work ok since the springs are still there. A nice pair of leather straps with roller buckles has been installed onto this trunk. In addition to the front latches, they help secure the top to it's base when buckled. They are functional, not just for show. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy.
