Antique Oak 2 Drawer Chest Black Painted Sides Country Style
This antique two-drawer chest has tons of character. The wood looks like oak and has been painted black on the sides and around the drawers on the front. Panelled sides and an overhanging molded top as well as molding at the base. Drawers have intricately designed metal pulls and there are circular wooden escutcheons surrounding the two keyholes. Thomasville Replicas Collection 1800's Four Drawer"Massachusetts Chest" of drawers. It appears to be pine wood and could be used in any room. I have set the TV on it, placed it in the foyer, bedroom, etc. There are great details, inset drawers, English style bun feet, gorgeous solid brass hardware and a very slight white wash to the finish. I took a picture of the dovetailed drawers. There is a mar on the inside of a drawer that does not affect the use. Drawers open and close well. Sorry about the shadows on the photos! The piece has the numbers#16911-350 on the back and says Oak. But I believe that is the stain color. I believe it was built in the 1980's as a document reproduction for this collection. Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key and Tray
Nice Refinished Jenny Lind Style Steamer Trunk With Working Lock and Key and Interior Tray Here is a Jenny Lind refinished trunk from around the 1860's or so. We found this one already finished by someone else and figured it looked pretty decent. So we figured that we didn't have to refinish it. It is made up of some type of hard wood, possibly poplar and it looks like the wood has been finished with a couple of coats of clearcoat. This one has the traditional brass buttons or rosettes on the thin metal banding. The brass buttons have been polished, probably many years ago, although they are starting to tarnish down where they are not as shiny. Here are the measurements: from left to right across the front is 25 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 1 3 1/2 inches. And from front edge to back edge is 14 1/2 inches. Look at the side view ... morepicture and you will see this trunk has the Jenny Lind hourglass shape where the top angles in at the base and the base flares out a little bit, that slice of bread shape. This one comes with the original lock with the original brass lock plate. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. These early locks lock every time the lid is closed, so the key is very important to be able to unlock the trunk each time the lid is closed. The side handles are cast iron metal underhand pulls. I don't know if they are old or reproduction, but they do have a figure of a deer embossed in the metal. They were on it when we received it and seemed to be ok for handles, so we have left them in place. Going to the interior, it is made up of rough cut boards. We have given the interior four coats of polyurethane to make it not so dry looking. There is a typical stress crack running across the bottom on the inside. There is also a stress crack running across the top which you can see in the top view picture on the exterior of the trunk and the picture where we show the close up of the brass buttons or rosettes. Dark wood original finish, the chest has a more finished look with a decorative wood piece across the top, cut out shape on sides and it stands on little ball feet. There are four small drawers and one larger one across the bottom. The drawers have nice metal labels- you can see the names on the pictures. Old unfinished wood on the back. With black ebony pinstripe ... moreinlaid, four drawers, a fall front, dating from the 1880s and straight off the container from Denmark. I didn’t think we could beat the one we had in our last load, but this one is simply breathtaking. It’s very unusual, with the lighter amber color olive ash burl walnut through the entire piece, including the hard-to-find reverse cove crown top, all along the face, the molding on the lid and the interior. It comes with a large key for the writing lid, and a little key for the interior. This chest has an applied bracket foot base, which is unusual. This one has extra molding, ebony pinstripe inlay, and a raised panel back. It also has hand-cut dovetail drawers, and the finish is all original. The entire cabinet is original, in fact, except for one little piece of molding that was missing and we replaced. The overall size is 38.5 inches wide, 19.5 inches deep, and 67.5 inches tall. The writing lid opens to reveal a beautiful arch design interior with multiple drawers and doors, ebony inlay, and all kinds of burl. Antique Jewel Chest Brass Hand Made Cabochon Butterscotch Amber Ornate Box Rare!
I purchased this amazing little chest at an estate auction held for a family that originated in the middle east. I am no expert by any means but will describe this to the best of my ability and include lots of photos and let you make your own determination. I have searched for similar items and found nothing like it. It measures 7" wide. 6" deep and 6" tall. The entire exterior of the box and it's hinged lid is covered with sheets of what appears to be brass. The brass is very ornately decorated, obviously hand decorated and has cabochon jewels in several places. The largest and most prominate is on the front of the lid and looks like a butterscotch colored piece of amber with dark veins or cracks going thru it. That stone is about 1" tall and about 5/8" wide. These two stones have facets. The inside of the box and lid are lined with emerald green fabric. Looks like taffeta. The fabric is very thin and worn. Obviously very old. Exquisite grain painted cottage chest with the best colors you will ever find! The colors work well with both dark oak and pine since they are very neutral in tone. Grain painting became popular in the mid 1800's when immigrants moved from the northern areas if the US to the west. The west didn't provide the fine wood sources if the north(maple. Oak, cherry etc) So they made the chests and furniture of pine- and often feather painted the surface to appear like the rich nice woods available in the north! Beautiful Antique Japanese Tansu Document Chest, Japan, Drawers, Small Dresser
Up for auction is this beautiful antique Tansu document chest! This chest just has a fantastic look to it. The size of it is 23 inches long by 18 inches tall by 11 inches deep. All the hardware seems to be made of old copper. And I'm not sure what type of wood it is made from. I believe this chest is about 100 to 120 years old, but I'm not sure. The guy I bought it from said it was brought to the United States in the 1950's. As you can see from the pictures, the chest does show wear. The top especially shows wear from things being set on top of it over all the years. Also the wood on the front of the drawers shows wear from all the years of hands reaching in to the handles. There are 3 locks on the chest, but unfortunately I don't have the key. All the drawers open just fine. One of the sliding doors works great, and the other ... moreis a bit stiff. Antique Primitive Walnut Farm Fresh Chest Brass Handles Toolbox Orig. Hardware
This auction features an antique walnut chest. Probably a tool chest at one point. The chest is made of solid walnut ½ in thickness. The outside measurements are 21 inches wide, 12 ¾ inches in depth, and the chest stands 10 ¾ inches tall. Total weight packed is 20 pounds. I believe this was probably made to be used as a tool box. And not something that one would have sitting in the house. The reason I think this is because of the lips that have been inlaid inside the box. I believe this at one point had a few trays inside, that would have been perhaps ½- ¾ of the depth of the box, and would have been able to slide forwards and backwards to access needed drill bits, hammers, chisels and the like. The lips are still inside, but the trays are nowhere to be found. The inside has also been painted. The outside features ... morewhat looks to be the original finish. As well as the original hardware. New screws have been added to the part of the hinge that attaches to the lid because the lid was detached when found. This low chest from the Ch'ing Dynasty is made from elm wood, is from Shan Shi, China, and measures 46 1/2" wide x 19" deep x 29 1/2" tall. The actual frame of the chest seems to be in good condition, although the interior has been painted at some point and is flaking badly. The outside, dark green paint is patchy in the best sort of way, but could also be refinished. The mirror has some patina to it but is still clear enough to be useful. The inside has nice shelf supports, although the glass shelves would need replaced as none have survived. The overall measurements are 21 1/4 inches wide x 25 inches tall x 6 inches deep.
