Vintage/Antique Heart Designed Rusted Wire Birdcage with Long Antique Chain 31"
This is a very FINE old rusty wire heart shaped birdcage. I have cleaned it well and sealed all the wire and chain.Hooks with a sealer to give it a rich brown tone(see picture 6) The cage offers 3 doors, 2 for feeders, one door is made from a 110 year old tin mattress ad)and the door on the front of the cage with a heart design on it. The cage is a very rare design and will look so romantic with any home decor. There is a wire tray(does not come out) The latch hook and chain are nice and rusty as well with the same finish on it and is 31" long with a hanging hook on the handle of the cage and again at the top. The back has the company name that I can't quite read and a date of 1911 The inside cover is impressed 59& 67 and the back 5B1A It measures 7 1/2 inches by 5 inches by 3 1/8 inches. The condition is good and it's structurally sound. The bells have corrosion. Wow! So I think these are so pretty. Unique and different but I am not 100% sure what they were originally used for. I have asked a few antique dealers and one man told me that many years ago they hung outside of the old buildings in the French Quarters of New Orleans, and valued them between $100.00-$150.00 for the pair. He said they were used as planters for climbing plants that would attach themselves to the walls and climb. Please if anyone knows them to be something other than that please let me know. They would be wonderful used for that purpose hung in your cottage, Victorian, Shabby Chic Style or any style garden. I think they would be great used outdoors or indoors to hold big chunky candles as well. For sure they would make a great conversation item. The auction is for the pair. They are very ornate, the bowl part looks to be covered ... morein lots of little roses with scrolls throughout. Pa was once a settlement town between Dunmore(then known as Bucktown) Elmhurst(then known as Dunning) established by the Nay Aug Paving Brick Company in the late 1800s. Nay Aug was a self sustained company town. This area is now part of Dunmore, once accessible by the old Drinker Turnpike and the Nay Aug(Greenville) Station of the DLW Railroad. Roaring Brook was once known as Nay Aug Brook. Nay Aug Avenue, Nay Aug Park, Nay Aug Falls, Nay Aug Tunnel, etc. were all named from the Indian word for Roaring Brook(Nay Aug) all located in Scranton, PA area. Antique Vintage Stick and Ball Fretwork 13 3/4" X 58 3/4" Architectural Salvage
Here is a salvaged piece of stick and ball fretwork. The piece measures about 58 3/4" long and is about 13 3/4" high. Piece is in very decent shape for its age. But does have a couple of condition issues. There are a couple of cracks in the wood on the center piece. I can see one ball where half of the ball is missing. It looks like two of the sticks are slightly warped, and there are some splits in the balls as it looks like each ball is joined together with tiny nails. I believe this is the original finish as it has the appearance of finish that has aged. A couple of small dings in the wood but no significant damage at all.
