A group of eight matching circa 1900 cast iron"snowbirds" 12" long plate with 3 1/2" by 6 1/2" fan shaped"bird" Made by F W PETER& BRO. NEWSIDE, PA. they are marked with a patent of August 12, 1902, marked around the center piercing on the bird. These were used in Northern states to break up heavy snow and ice from the roof. It helped with the weight of the snow on the roof and prevented large sheets of it from crashing down on those below. Growing up in Ohio, I remember seeing these staggered along the roof edge on grand old slate-roofed houses. The eight birds all have some surface rust and roughness from years of service but they are all still perfectly sound and ready for another 100 years of watching over your house. It's an unusual authentic touch for a restoration or new build. Up for bid is an original architectural antique cast iron barn roof star. When this start was p urchased several months ago. It was in two pieces, mai nly because the barn it was removed from had collapsed. After removing the rest of the roof from the bottom of the star I cleaned up the area around the break and had it rewelded. Today it is in perfect condition. With only a m i nor amount of rust showing around the repaired area. The star is ready to be remounted on a roof or a barn or house. The star is approximately 10-12" high and about as wide. There are two flange ends w hich still retains a few of the original nuts and bolts to fasten it back on a roof. Shipping and insurance will be $18.00 due to weight alone. Here is an antique cast iron roof ornament called a snow bird. These snow birds were attached to the roof and prevented the snow from sliding off the roof and falling on people or objects below. Now some people hang them on the wall as a little shelf. The part that would act as the shelf is about 5 3/4 by 2 5/8 inches. The overall length of the entire piece is 9 1/2 inches. This one is embossed S&S Mfg Co Slatington PA. Pat July 24 1923. Snow bids came in a variety of shapes and sizes and are a fun and affordable way to collect antiques.

They are all similar to the ones shown. Most have gothic arch design but some have interesting arrow design. Great for design projects. This is one nice antique snow dog. Whilst. It does have its share of rust, it is a stable piece, free of damage, cracks repairs. It is marked A. H. Bowers. Pat. Sept 25, 1888, Lebanon PA Overall length when assemble measures approx. 15 and 1/4 inches long. The measurements of the"guard" section is 8 and 3/4 inches long by 3 and 3/4 inches at widest point.

Antique Tin Roof Tiles. The company name on them is WHEELING COP-R-LOY The company was in West Virginia and not in business any more as far as I can determine.I have 515 unused but slightly weathered tiles. Approx 206 Sq. Ft. The first photo is an old shed with these tiles.Some of the tiles have some surface rust and chipped paint exposing the tin underneath. Most of the tiles are in great shape. The second photo shows the end cap. Unfortunately I only have the one but looks fairly easy to replicate. I can ship/ get quote via ground freight. Total weight = approx. 350 lbs. packed. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ORNAMENTAL ARCHITECTURAL CAST IRON ROOF CRESTING WIDOWS WALK
Please scroll down under this description for 27 additional views. 19th century ornamental cast iron roof cresting sections salvaged from a Victorian house. This is the lacy details that Italianate and other Victorian houses had running along the peaks of the roof and around towers and turrets. There are 10 pieces in all. Three small fragments and seven pieces that are more substantial. The height at the highest points is 12" The legs at the bottom have a forked foot which is how they were attached along the roof. No piece is longer than about 12" but you will see in the photos that we were able to piece them together like a puzzle to create longer sections. They have an encrusted surface with rust but what we have seems sturdy enough for re-use as something other than their original intent. A line of them would look great along ... morethe top of a headboard made from an antique door. They can be applied with masonry screws to the top of a brick wall. They can be dramatically arranged on a mantel or hung on a wall.
