Antique wrought iron from prestigious New York City building! This is an extremely rare find! This antique wrought iron fence is from a renown New York City building erected in the late 1800's. The historical building still stands which was protected for over a century by this beautiful tall fence. The fence is 6 1/2 ft. tall and is all hand banded and turned the original way. The iron was well maintained with top grade protective paint. There is no rotting. Even on the bottom of the verticals. The finials are also surprisingly intact with very few, if any breaks. There are 6 posts which have ornate cast iron finials. These are used on either side of the two pairs of gates available with this lot. Each set of gates is 10 ft. wide. Wrought Iron Driveway Gates 11' 5" outside hinge to outside hinge. Beautiful antique wrought iron driveway gates. Both sections are about 4' high at the hinge/post end and 5' 3" at the center end so if you mounted them with 12" ground clearance the center of the gates would be 6' 3" from the ground to the top of the gate where they meet in the center. The right section measures 5' 4" long while the left section measures 5' 5" long end to end not including the hinges which add another 4" each end which gives a clearance of about 11' 4" gate post to gate post. Hinges move easily. These gates are very heavy. you might want to pound the slight bend out of the left section post end 1/2" steel piece. They both swing from the left side. They could be used as a pair by removing the flower medallion and replacing it on the outside of the gate. I believe welding would be necessary to do that. They are in very good condition. I don't believe they have been used. I did notice that one gate has two minor welds which are lose but nothing in danger of falling apart. c. 1920 Spanish Revival Cast & Wrought Iron Interior Gates & Mounting Hardware
Exceptional pair of c. 1920 hand wrought iron gates with mounting hardware. These gates were installed in the interior of a house and used between a dining room and sitting room. These measure approximately 48' wide including mounting hardware and 50" tall at the center. O ffered as found and uncleaned. Good original finish. Except some paint slop visible along edges of mounting hardware and overspray. The piece of swinging stock that acts as the catch is broken off of the gate pictured on the right. See last image. The mounting bolt is also broken off in the hole. I can repair this damage for an additional cost. Please contact us for additional information. Up for sale is a set of antiques driveway gates recently removed from an ocean front estate in Maine. They are a stunning example of early wrought iron craftsmanship. Very heavy and extremely well made. They show some imperfections as seen in photos. However, for the age of these gates, they are beautiful and would make an elegant impression for your driveway or any other entrance idea. Please ask all questions prior to placing bids. Monumental Antique Wrought iron gates French
This an amazing set of gates. I believe pre 1550. Everything was made by a Blacksmith. This is a one of a kind Period Set. It would be great for an entry way or wine cellar. There is writing on one of the rails that appears to be latin, written in gold. There is also a makers mark, pic is included. Small square with interlocking lines. The person i purchased them from said they where purchased at a Park Bernett Auction in the 1970's. Said to have come out of the William Randolph Hearst Collection. I have no proof, said to have come out of a 13th century french convent. The writing in gold could be a reminder to the nuns to stay virgins. The set consists of 11 pies that piece together.
