The banister is hand carved to contour to your hand and is nice and thick. It is all solid chestnut. Highly Ornate wrought iron stair railing & balcony railing from late 1800's
This is very rare ornate wrought iron stair railing from the grand lobby of the Sterling hotel. There are floral and spiral leaf details that are rarely found in American iron anymore. This hotel was frequented by Coal barons and other prosperous merchants of the time. It was even visited in the early 1900's by Eleanore Roosevelt. The lobby was stunning. And this railing graced the grand lobby stair case on the first and ball room floors. The first two pictures show the iron as pictured in the hotel before it was taken out. The following pictures show pieces after uninstalling to show their condition. The last several pictures show a few sample pieces of both the stair and balcony railing that we had sandblasted to show you the quality and condition which is excellent! H with rail and 22 in. without. 141 in. 73 in. 147 in. and one 64 in. landing piece with slightly different shape. The posts are being sold in a separate auction. This iron is being sold by the as one LOT which consists of 38 ft. of straight balcony iron and 35 ft. of matching stair railing. 70' wooden antique stair railing and 89 spindles
Removing stairway and hallway banisters and balusters from old house circa 1850. Total of aprx. 70' of banister and 89 balusters. The original banister started on the second floor attic door with an arc then runs the length of the hallway arcs again to run down the stairwell arcs again to run down the first floor hallway arcs again to run down the basement stairwell. The original banister was cut at the bottom of the stairwell and a Newel post was inserted to finish the run then cut or detached again at the arc where the basement stairwell run started. I believe this railing to be over 150 years old and I was told it is cherry wood but I am not positive of they type of wood but it is beautiful. The 70' of railing and the 89 balusters are in very good condition. Antique Victorian Oak Stair & Hall Railing Spindles Trim Carved Style Ornate
LOCAL PICKUP ONLY This stair and rail system is one of the most unique and striking examples of victorian wood working I have ever seen! All original. Taken from a large farm house built in the mid 1800's. Made of Oak, it has an original light coat of varnish remaining. It consists of three sections; The back hall; the side hall; and the stairs. The back hall has a rail that measures 45 1/2 inches long. The spindles measure 28 1/2 inches tall and are attached by means of pins, holes, and grooves, there were almost no nails used. The side hall rail measures 9 ft 5 inches, has 11 spindles spaced apart 10 inches on center. The post that connects the side and back rails measures 39 1/2 inches tall. The stair rail measures 14 ft 6 inches long with 14 spindles measuring 26 inches tall.All the pieces are pegged and slotted to fit perfectly into ... moreeach other. The oak rail measures 3 3/4th inches tall and is 2 1/4th inches wide with a groove at the bottom to accept the spindles. The posts have some damage and need to be worked on. There are a few trim pieces for below the stair treads that could be used as patterns, I have not cleaned or altered this item and am selling in the original as found condition.
