Pair Victorian Alabaster Vine Leaf Finials
These are a pair of 19 th century alabaster finials carved into sinuous vines. They are mirror images of each other. But there are subtle differences to show that they were hand carved. They both have a metal peg at the base with carved numbers 5 and 6 and other numbers in pencil. Not sure what they were off. Condition: Very good. Just plenty of little nibbles. Antique Victorian Era Cast Iron General Store String Holder / dispenser
Selling an antique round cast iron string holder. The patent date is Nov. 26 1872. This string holder is in excellent condition with a great patina that still exhibits portions of the original golden bronze finish. The holder and the footed base both display beautiful lacework cast iron. Most string holders from this time period have solid bases or no base at all. The top half of the round portion has a push button latch that allows it's removal. This piece is as sturdy as the day it was manufactured. These came from an estate in CT where the old gentleman was the super at the time of this renovation. with intent to use them after 40 years he is letting them go. On the North West corner of Houston Street, facing Houston Street to Mercer Street was designed by the famous McKim, Mead and White firm in 1892. The building is a 9 story 200' by 100' 129' tall structure which was the power plant for the Metropolitan Street Railway Co. Metropolitan Traction Co. Cable car) line on Broadway. Formerly the site of St Thomas Church which burned down in 1851. ... moreWas rebuilt and then demolished circa 1890. I have a copy of an 1894 Scribners magazine article on this railway and a Scientific American issue from 1897. With photos and line cuts. I also have several stereo view cards I scanned. One from 1894 and I have one from before the Cable Building was built- St Thomas Church can just about be made out in the distance- both taken from a block South on Broadway at the Metropolitan Hotel. Thus far I have not found one photo or even one article about the actual construction of the BUILDING and I find that very unusual given it was a McKim. Mead and White design, it was a main power plant for a then very new mode of transportation, and the building itself had to have it's foundations dug to an unusual depth- 40 feet in order to isolate the heavy vibrating machinery from the office building itself. It had(4) 1.000 Horse Power steam engines and 18 boilers in the basement, the engines had a 32 foot diameter driving drum and was the largest steam powered plant of it's kind. Offering this wonderful Victorian Horner Brothers Figural Quartersawn Oak Crest in todays Auction. Recently discovered. It was originally in the Summit Hotel in Poland Springs Maine. It was reportedly part of a Grand Fireplace Mantle. We will be listing the Griffins in a separate Auction. It is 50" Wide by 12" Tall. The Crest features two fully Winged Griffins facing each other on either side of the center medallion which has a castle below a crown top. Needs a small amount of restoration. Great original finish. Moorish Fretwork Victorian 1880 Fancy Stick & Ball Architectural Salvage
From the 1880's- 1890's. A lovely vintage oak fretwork or carpenter's lace. With a sunburst center, on each side Moorish fretwork, has stick and ball fanning on both ends, with small border of stick and ball surrounding the sides and top. Two horizontal braids under the Moorish work. Really quite a beautiful piece, much work went into this. There is one piece broken on the right side of the Moorish work upper left, but hard to see. Original. High quality, 1800s piece in fantastic condition. Classic, Victorian, architectural salvage at its very best! This beast weighs over 40LBS and has 5 levels of depth! It is also completely freestanding. This beauty has all the bells and whistles. It has 5 beveled recessed panels total. Unique carving to the bevelling near the corners. Outside 2 have vertical grooves that match the middle one. Parallel grooves also along the bottom and top trim. 2 other recessed panels have classic Eastlake/easthetic carving. Wrought Iron Driveway Gates 11' 5" outside hinge to outside hinge. Beautiful antique wrought iron driveway gates. Both sections are about 4' high at the hinge/post end and 5' 3" at the center end so if you mounted them with 12" ground clearance the center of the gates would be 6' 3" from the ground to the top of the gate where they meet in the center. The right section measures 5' 4" long while the left section measures 5' 5" long end to end not including the hinges which add another 4" each end which gives a clearance of about 11' 4" gate post to gate post. Original Antique Victorian Iron Wall Sconce From Whitechapel. London Taken from a building renovation in the late 1990s and possibly the only one of its kind left from the area Description: Hello. This is an original antique Victorian wall sconce taken from Whitechapel, London, in the late 1990s. The item was on the ground floor of a building on New Road that was undergoing renovation from residential to commercial property(the street although once home to many in Victorian London now has many takeaways. Halal restaurants and cafes) The tenant was having a shop sign fitted to the front and when asked if the sconce could be removed from a covered side courtyard type entrance he happily agreed. The person who removed the sconce was the shop sign fitter. And fully aware of the significance of the item, kept it in his garage where it has remained ... moresince. There are no sconces left on buildings in Whitechapel- most having been damaged or thrown away- and it is very rare to find an original example of one from this area of London. Whitechapel is after all. The most notorious part of London having been the since of the Jack the Ripper murders. Although the sconce was retrieved from Whitechapel, the building's tenant did not know the history of the item such as how long it had been on the building, or when it was put there. In any case. Thankfully the sconce was rescued and persevered. It could now make an excellent collectors piece, or garden decoration for a large candle or hanging basket. Condition: The sconce has been repaired at the base part of the hinge. Look at the pictures and you will see a small patch of light metal that has been welded on to join together the two parts that had suffered a crack. The metal is pretty rusted and the oak wood mount is worn in places. It still functions and moves freely on the hinge. Shipping: All items are dispatched the next working day after payment. 6 Antique Victorian Floral Heart Cast Iron Theater Seat Legs Architectural Piece
This is a fantastic and unusual set of 6 Victorian theater seat legs that would make nice architectural pieces. They are quite ornate with flowing scrolls. Flowers, and hearts. All 6 are solid and sturdy despite the surface rust that covers all of them. One of them is from the end of the row and has more detail and some color. The ones from inside the row are marked B36 and the end piece is marked B36R. Some of them have parts of the seat frame still attached, that might be removable, although I haven't tried. All of them have two small feet at the bottom with a hole through each where they were bolted to the floor, but one has a piece broken from the area where it was bolted. The rest seem undamaged other than the rust. They measure 36" H x 11" W at the bottom, and there is a 5 1/2" flat area on each where an arm rest ... morewas attached. Black Vintage Wrought Iron Birdcage Approx 30" tall including hanging hook. 26.5" tall without hook. Cage measures 8" round& 11 3/4" with scrolls. We've loved this piece and had a plant in it mostly. Cage was sprayed once with an anti-rust treatment to prevent more pitting(see pic) It's been kept indoors to better preserve it since it had signs of age: top mesh needs to be soldered down on one side- one scroll leans to the left about 1 cm- cage door needs to be reattached(broke off taking pictures) A beautiful piece considering its age- it's really for a collector who knows what they're buying! This a huge old steam boiler. I see patent dates of 1888 and 1911 on it. It is really cool looking as a sort of'steampunk artifact' Maybe someone would want to put it in a restaurant or lobby as a retro installation. It is roughly 5'8" tall. 3 feet wide, 4 feet deep. It's located in the basement of an old building in Charleston. SC. It is slated for removal by a demolition crew in the next month or so. They plan to sell it for scrap. I said I would try and find someone who wants to preserve it. It will be very hard to move, so if you want it you'll have to be prepared to remove it yourself and/or compensate the demo company for it's scrap value. To be clear. I do not own this. Original And Rare Antique Victorian Iron Wall Sconce Taken from a London building renovation in the late 1990s. Size is 28cm long x 17cm high. And 12 wide This is an original antique Victorian wall sconce taken from London. In the late 1990s. The sconce was on the ground floor of a building on New Road, Whitechapel, that was undergoing renovation from residential to commercial property. It has been in storage ever since. Originally the sconce was mounted on wood. But I have removed the wood mount because the wood was damaged, and not in the best condition. Condition: The sconce has been coloured gold at some point. I do not know if this was originally the colour when it was made in the 19th century. I sold a very similar one last month that was taken from the same building. And it was not gold. We are pleased to offer this beautiful. Old(1880s/1890s) hand painted room divider or dressing screen. This is a three paneled unit with an ornate, Walnut frame. The frame has spindle accents on the top semi-arches that accent and attach the end panels to the center panel. Ornate brass hinges connect the pieces. The painting is breathtaking. The center panel is a very beautiful woman in a garden/courtyard. She has an upstretched arm touching a white bird(dove? She is wearing a wrap skirt with detailed pattern that includes the face of a monkey. There are some flowers on the ground near her feet. The side panels are floral and again, the detail is superb. The colors are varied and somewhat muted/soft. The canvas is backed with its original felt which is framed with a ribbon trim. There are no artists marks or signatures on the front of the ... morescreen. The screen is in good antique condition. It had been stored in an attic for decades. The side panels have been punctured. One has one puncture, the other side panel has two. The punctures has torn. I feel that the backing can be removed and the canvas can be repaired or the damage can be camouflaged. The center(lady) panel is not punctured or torn. There are some light moisture discolorations near her bottom panel which are not too severe or distracting. WE HAVE PRICED THE SCREEN WITH THESE ISSUES IN MIND. Otherwise. The screen would be substantially more. As it is, it is a fabulous accent piece that can be either free standing or wall mounted for a dramatic decorative piece. The screen measures 55" wide and it is 60" tall. But is visible under natural light. Still retaining its original gold gilding the frame is missing section of the gesso on the edges. Gorgeous brick salvaged medallion from a late 19th century brown stone on Boston's Back Bay. These medallions are 8.25" square x 2.5" thick. They were meticulliously salvaged of the facade of a home slated for demolition. There are TWO(2) different brick blocks- I am selling them INDIVIDUALLY! They each have wonderful raised profile designs of leaves& floral or nut patterns. I purchased these from a fellow antiques dealer. I AM SELLING THESE IN INDIVIDUALLY! They are typical salvaged elements- with some areas of wear- they are NOT perfect- but make for GREAT decorative elements!
