Authentic Antique Victorian Wasp Catcher Beautiful Blue Glass Great Shape
A beautiful authentic Victorian Wasp Catcher. There are many imitations out there. But this one is the real deal. An ingenious invention that is equally useful today. Simply pour an inch of sugar water into the bottom and place a plug in the top. Wasps and flies can enter through the bottom and remain trapped until they die. Perfect for use at a picnic or on a patio. This one features beautiful blue glass that appears to have been possibly hand blown. Overall, it is in great antique shape with no cracks, chips or cloudiness to the glass. The wire hangar is rusted and believe could be replaced by someone skilled at such a task, or left alone for a primitive look. Measures 7.25" High by 5.5" across the bottom. Measures 12 feet wide(each half is 6 feet long) The tall ends are 67' tall. Measures 51' tall at the shortest section in the very center of the two gates. Conditon: The gates have been stored in an old barn for a few decades. They are dusty and dirty and ... morerusty. There is pitting but all of the metal is solid. There is one bent shaft on the top and the far right side of the right gate has a bend near the top. I have shown both of these minor flaws in close-up photos. Otherwise no other bends or problems. Victorian Cast Iron Green Man with Crystals Reflector Mystery Object
A cast iron green man with some sort of bronze finish. To the back of the head is a small bracket from which protrude 2 glass crystals. There should be 3 but one is missing. At the base are 3 tiny holes from which 3 other crystals should be hanging but they are also missing although 2 of the wire hooks remain. As you can see from the photos there are also 2 metal rods that stick out from the back which I assume are for hanging the item or for fixing it into something. Some of the leaves and berries are gilded. I have to say I do not know it's exact purpose although I feel it must be some sort of reflector although whether for lighting or fireplace I do not know. If someone does know I would be grateful if they would share there knowledge with me. As you can see from the photos the casting is very nice quality. I would say this item was ... moremade mid to late 19th century. Condition. As previously mentioned some of the crystals are missing but they can easily be replaced. The 2 crystals that remain have some very minor chips/nibbles. There is a tiny hole from time of casting but no other damage. There are some light reflections in the photos. Approx Size. Height(including crystal) 6 inches. Width 3.5 inches. Max depth from wall 2.75 inches. A Very Interesting and Decorative Object.

LARGE. HEAVY, CAST IRON, QUADRANT SHAPED, POSSIBLY VICTORIAN RAIN WATER HEAD Having complied with a request to visit a property and value an amount of unwanted items. I was refreshingly surprised at some of the unusual pieces that confronted me. Invariably in this house clearance business we get the‘muddy end of the stick! being offered the‘dregs’ as it were. I have often thought that I should change the name on the vans to‘Civic Dump Ltd’ or some such associate! However, enough of my bellyaching. This particular house was owned by an elderly lady and being somewhat infirm with arthritis she had found that she could no longer cope with such a large property, let alone manage the staircase. Her intention was to move in with her widowed sister and they could both share the expenses and the chores. I did try to explain that if it was anything ... morelike my family, the job wouldn’t last five minutes! Anyhow, I valued the’bits’ paid and duly removed them back to the yard. Some bits and pieces found in the attic were of special interest as they were literally the remaining contents of an old chemist shop. Mrs’K’ did explain that back in the 1920’s through to the early 1950’s her grand parents had a pharmacy in Bradford, which, she is now truthfully informed, is a Chinese Emporium.say no more! What follows is the best of the’smalls’ including a varied assortment of the pharmaceutical stuff. Some of the bits have had to have a’wipe over’ to enable decent photographic reproduction. This item came out of the garage. There wasn’t much else in this area only garden tools and a lawn mower. Invariably people's garages are crammed with stuff whilst the car stands in the drive. Not in this case however.pity. The item you see is a rain water head or hopper. Its undamaged, its made of cast iron and its possibly Victorian. On the North West corner of Houston Street, facing Houston Street to Mercer Street was designed by the famous McKim, Mead and White firm in 1892. The building is a 9 story 200' by 100' 129' tall structure which was the power plant for the Metropolitan Street Railway Co. Metropolitan Traction Co. Cable car) line on Broadway. Formerly the site of St Thomas Church which burned down in 1851. ... moreWas rebuilt and then demolished circa 1890. I have a copy of an 1894 Scribners magazine article on this railway and a Scientific American issue from 1897. With photos and line cuts. I also have several stereo view cards I scanned. One from 1894 and I have one from before the Cable Building was built- St Thomas Church can just about be made out in the distance- both taken from a block South on Broadway at the Metropolitan Hotel. Thus far I have not found one photo or even one article about the actual construction of the BUILDING and I find that very unusual given it was a McKim. Mead and White design, it was a main power plant for a then very new mode of transportation, and the building itself had to have it's foundations dug to an unusual depth- 40 feet in order to isolate the heavy vibrating machinery from the office building itself. It had(4) 1.000 Horse Power steam engines and 18 boilers in the basement, the engines had a 32 foot diameter driving drum and was the largest steam powered plant of it's kind. Vintage Antique Victorian Brown Bird Cage Heart Design Wire and Wood
For auction is a vintage/antique brown bird cage with a working door that latches. I do not know it's exact age. It is made of wire that is shaped in the design of hearts; the rest is wood or wood composite and the base is wood composite. It is app. 25 in. in height and a little over 37 in. in diameter for the top round wire part of the cage. Condition: The bird cage is weathered from its age with some chips on the wood composite that can be seen in the pics. and it's a bit dusty. I would be happy to email/post more pictures.

The block is made of solid, chestnut, and has a dark stain. The lovely geometric design featured on the face of the block was hand-carved. Also note that chestnut is a rare and valuable wood; it’s not commercially available due to the blight introduced between 1900& 1908. Which made the North American chestnut trees virtually extinct by 1940. There are a couple cracks stemming from the bottom edge of the block. We wanted to try to close them using some glue and clamps. But they add a nice, distressed charm to it and preferred to leave the decision up to you.
