Topaz was thought to protect against evil and to the ancient Greeks and Persians, it was believed to be effective as a talisman which would protect against evil enchantments. Here are two gorgeous, sparkling pastel blue topaz semi-precious gemstones from the Ural Mountains of Russia. Gorgeous, vibrant, and vividly hued, these striking semi-precious gemstones are of very high quality and possess breathtaking luster. Both have been ... morehand faceted into sparkling, brilliant ovals, with lots of flash and depth. These two gemstones are virtually flawless, even under a 5x glass. Certainly to the eye they are nothing less than perfect, they are truly beautiful little blue gemstones. The trained eye will easily discern from the photo that the gemstones have been hand-faceted. The coarseness of the 19th century faceting is considered appealing to most gemstone collectors, and is not considered a detriment. Unlike today's computer controlled machine processes, the cut and finish of gemstones such as these is the legacy of an artisan who lived two centuries ago. Such antique hand-faceted gemstones possess much greater character and appeal than today's mass-produced machine-faceted gemstones. These gemstones have great luster and sparkle. And to the eye are completely transparent, but one cannot say with absolute certainty that they are absolutely flawless. True, any blemishes they possess are not visible to the naked eye, and even at 600% as in these photo enlargements here(or under a 5x jeweler’s loupe) there are no discernible flaws. However we hesitate to use the word“flawless” as sooner or later blemis

17th Century Safavid / Persian Lustre Blue Glazed Bottle / Vase for Collector
This beautiful 17th Century Persian Safavid blue glazed bottle measures 5" tall x 5" wide and contains fanciful animal(dog and bird) and plant motifs. The bottle is in good condition for its age(approx. 350 years old) with some expected repairs to the rim. The gold paint and glazed blue color appear throughout the bottle(although some photos seem as if the motifs are partially dark blue and partially gold. This is a result of the flash and all of the motifs are outlined in gold) Some of the animals and plant motifs are more pronounced than others. You can compare it to the similar size and color Safavid bottle sold by Christie's London in 2011: and to another Safavid blue glazed bottle that sold in 1999 which has motifs somewhat similar to this one: I'm an art and antique collector and have a very nice private collection ... moreof art(Renaissance. Ancient Persian Elamite Bronze Age War Hammer 2500 B.C.
An elegant. Rare and well preserved Ancient Persian Bronze Age War Hammer, dating to approximately 2500- 2000 BC. The heavy weapon. Of high copper content, is of typical Elamite form, kinked, with blunt axe head on one side, the other with bulging hammer. With oval socket and four circular perforations on the body; three near the axe edge, one over the socket for securing the original wooden pole, now perished. This war hammer may well have had a ceremonial purpose, as well as a functional use. The position of the three perforations at the rear are intriguing- possibly for attachment of decorative tassels, or to bind the weapon to a shaft running over the butt. A very unusual object. Circa 1500 BC to 500 BC. This piece was sculpted in the form of an animal. Possibly a bull, and was probably made as a staff finial or pommel for a knife, sword, or other weapon- tool. The form is quite abstracted and stylized with four feet and a tail integrated into the body and an elongated neck with a small head and ears on either side of a pair of very lengthy horns. There is a thick cylindrical, hollow tube-like form rising from the back which has a thick lip. Cemented into this hollow tube by encrustation, are the remains ... moreof what looks to be an iron attachment rod, possibly part of the tool or knife that this piece was originally part of. The animal form is classic and very modernistic looking. Although it was made over 2,500 years ago. AGE: Circa 1500 BC to 500 BC. CONDITION: Good archeologically found condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: Thick green encrusted encrustation overall. No apparent losses to this finial or handle, although it was part of a tool or knife that is no longer present. This piece does not presently have a display stand but it would be worth having one made. HISTORY: This piece was purchased from an estate collection in the Point Reyes area of California several years ago. The collector obtained his collection in the late 1950s and the pieces in his collection were brought to the United States in the early 20th century. PLEASE NOTE: The low opening bid. With no reserve, is not meant to reflect upon the actual monetary value of the piece. This beautiful. Museum quality 17th Century Persian Safavid blue glazed bottle/ pottery/ vase for collector of Safavid or Ancient Persian art measures 5" tall x 5" wide and contains fanciful animal(dog and bird) and plant motifs. The gold paint and glazed blue color appear throughout the bottle(although some photos seem as if the motifs are partially dark blue and partially gold. This is a result of the flash and all of the motifs are outlined in gold) Some of the animals and plant motifs are more pronounced than others. You can compare it to the similar size and color Safavid bottle sold by Christie's London in 2011: and to another Safavid blue glazed bottle that sold in 1999 which has motifs somewhat similar to this one: ... moreI'm an art and antique collector and have a very nice private collection of art(Renaissance. 15th Century Persian Antiquity Bronze Pouring Vessel w/Spout and Calligraphy
This is a supposed early 15th Century Persian pouring vessel made of bronze with intricate hand-tooled designs and calligraphy. The only thing I have to go by about the age of this piece is the hand-written paper(pic 2) that was found inside when I bought it at a Bay Area antique& estate auction many years ago which states that it was"checked out at the Metropolitan Museum. Of course that could mean that the owner was comparing it to other pieces in the museum's collection. I'm not sure how this was made-hand-wrought or cast. The foot on the bottom appears to have been attached by soldering-there is a circular line on the inside bottom. The vessel is 5-1/2" tall and 5-7/8" wide with the diameter of the top opening being 3-1/8" The width of the rim is 7/16" It weighs 2 pounds. The last picture shows 2 stamped ... moreor cast markings on the bottom. The overall surface has been slightly tinned and there is up to 1/4" of green verdigris encircling above the circular foot which can be seen in pic 10. We'll start the auction off at $25.00. Thanks for looking. Enjoy, and check out my other auctions. I will ship this item within 1-2 days of the ending of the auction. Payment having been made within 3 days, for $12.77 USPS Standard Shipping(old Parcel Post) w/delivery confirmation to only the continental US. This auction comes with a 7 day return privilege, buyer paying for return postage. Will add insurance. If necessary.
