An unusual antique green glaze pottery figure of a heron. This is unmarked. But most certainly Chinese, circa 1910. The bird figure is a rare LARGE size. ... moreI bought this at an estate sale nearly 30 years ago in Menlo Park, CA. The mediterranean style house was constructed in 1911, and still held hundreds of original items, many of which were oriental. This bird figure was at the edge of a fish pond, and had a water feature that made water stream through the narrow slits in the pottery"reeds" around the herons feet and legs. If you look at the close up photo of the base, you can see where this was anchored to the edge of the fish pond with dabs of concrete. The heron is depicted standing among reeds as if in a swamp or a pond. It is a rare and spectacular piece of Chinese pottery. Great decorator piece inside or out. MEASURES: approx. 25" tall and it is approx. 17" at the widest point.from the back to the beak. CONDITION:GOOD+.it has a firing split on the inside. Which BARELY shows on the outside, and this happened during the manufacturing. It is very typical of this type of ware, and pottery collectors realize this.it is NOT damaged. The outside glaze around the base has some water deposits and calcium build up. It of course can be removed, but it indicates years of use.no chips, damage cracks, or repairs.see all pics. An Antique Perrsian Glazed Decorated Pottery Bottle 18th century
This Iranian Persian-style vase is hand-made and hand-painted in flower motifs. Not as finely painted as some of the older Iznik pieces from old Persia. Yet an attractive and unusual decorative piece with some artistic merit. It has an unusual three-sided form. And has a very old-looking patina. The glaze is intact but rather crackled. At first glance, one would think it is a much older piece, but apparently these kinds of wares were and are still being made in Iran today. With the influx of Iranian immigrants to the US over the past few decades, these wares have been more available here. This and ane one above were acquired in San Diego, California where there is a large population of Iranian immigrants. Other Key Words: Persia. Exquisite Safavid Persian Pottery 17th Century Lustre Blue Glazed Bottle / Vase
This beautiful. Museum quality 17th Century Persian Safavid blue glazed bottle/ pottery/ vase for collector of Safavid or Ancient Persian art measures 5" tall x 5" wide and contains fanciful animal(dog and bird) and plant motifs. The bottle is in good condition for its age(approx. 350 years old) with some expected repairs to the rim. The gold paint and glazed blue color appear throughout the bottle(although some photos seem as if the motifs are partially dark blue and partially gold. This is a result of the flash and all of the motifs are outlined in gold) Some of the animals and plant motifs are more pronounced than others. You can compare it to the similar size and color Safavid bottle sold by Christie's London in 2011: and to another Safavid blue glazed bottle that sold in 1999 which has motifs somewhat similar to this one: ... moreI'm an art and antique collector and have a very nice private collection of art(Renaissance. Ancient Near Eastern Syro Hittite Pottery Beaker - 1900 BC
An unusual Syro-Hittite pottery beaker. Dating to the early 2nd Millennium B.C. This piece sits on a disc-like base with acorn-shaped body and flaring mouth. What makes the piece most unusual are the four applied"masks" that decorate the shoulder of the vessel. They have a distinctive zoomorphic appearance. Especially when viewed in the inverted position, and are perforated longitudinally. Thus, it is possible that the vessel would have been suspended by means of a cord that passed through these perforations. This piece belongs to one of the world's earliest Empires. The Syro-Hittite civilization of the early 2nd Millennium B.C. The Hittites were famous for their skill in building, use of chariots and ironworking. The Hittite empire expanded far enough from its base in modern Anatolia, Turkey, that it eventually came into conflict ... morewith Egypt, under Ramesses II. Syro-Hittite art is noted for its buff earthenware figures, often referred to as idols. There was clearly an appreciation for the abstract representation of human and animal forms, although they were rarely incorporated onto vessels. This vessel is a beautiful representation of Syro Hittite art. Height: 5 inches. Condition: Excellent. Unrestored. Age related encrustations and root markings. Provenance: Ex. British Private Collection. Acquired 1980's. Authenticity All items are unconditionally guaranteed to be Authentic as described. Ancient Near Eastern Chalcolithic Painted Pottery Bowl - 3400 BC
A rare and extremely well provenanced ancient Near Eastern Chalcolithic pottery bowl. Dating to between 3600- 3400 B.C. This expansive cream buff ware bowl has been hand modeled with steeply curved shoulders. A flattened circular base and a wide mouth featuring a subtly everted rim. The outer body of the vessel is decorated with a double lined band in dark purple, with a geometric design below, possibly depicting highly abstracted animals in motion. The inside is painted with a frieze of three stylized ibex, and further geometric designs that likely reflect contemporary basketry patterns.
