Interesting c1750 English? Dutch? Firing Glass / Cannon w/Neat Crest
Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. Interesting c1750 English? Dutch? Firing Glass/ Cannon w/Neat Crest Presented is an interesting firing glass or cannon. Dating to around 1750. The glass is likely of English or Dutch make. The glass is etched and gilded on one side with what is probably a guild crest, topped by a crown. The glass is thick and heavy, particularly at the bottom, as these glasses were meant to be banged on bar and tabletops to produce a loud'shot' sound, as part of the night's revelry. A very interesting and very old collector's item for sure. The glass is in great condition. The gilding is in great shape. Especially considering age. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The glass stands about 4 1/4 inches tall. jm. Good luck and bid with confidence. RARE~Antique~Georgian Regency~hammering~firing cannon~goblet~Ruby glass cup~MD
This week we have Georgian/Regency era. Thumping" or"Firing" cannon. This is a very heavy piece for its size weighing just over 14 ounces. We believe this piece dates to circa the late 1700's to early 1800's. The etching on this piec is superbly executed. As you can see it is monogramed with MD. The piece has a few very small fleabites to the base. There are also a few scratches to the interior. they are very light) It does show proper wear(shelf wear/scratches) to the base. Typical with a piece of this age. The stems of the early"Firing Glasses" were thick and short. This piece is one of the finest examples we have ever come across. The piece measures 4 3/4" tall x 2 3/4" across the base. A very nice and rare collectable.
