Up for auction is this set of 4 antique 19th century etched glass optic bowl and green bobbin stem and foot Roemer glasses German origin. These are all in excellent condition with no chips cracks or repairs. All of the stems are a beautiful dark olive green stem that almost appears electric in certain light as can be seen in the pictures. The bowls are a beautifully etched design of grapes and vines. They are all approx 2.75" w x 4.5" tall. Each Roemer glass is marked Vienna on the bottom in gold gilt. Maryland Elegant Uranium Green Glass Needle Etched Optic Wine Stems Goblets 4"+
Maryland Elegant Uranium Green Glass Needle Etched Optic Wine Stems Goblets 4"+. Welcome to The Treasure Port! Here's a set of very hard to find. Elegant glass wine or champagne goblets. These are attributed to the Maryland Glass Company(a Cumberland glass factory) from 1918- 1941. They are green and have uranium in them that makes them glow a crazy, intense neon green in either sunlight or under a black(UV) light source. All photos were taken in the shade of my porch, save the last photo: this one was taken in direct sunlight to show the glow. No known pattern name exists. But the goblets have an optic pattern with 32 vertical panels and five concentric rings. Needle etched design looks like a'brick and brack' type pattern. Maryland Glass was mainly a glass decorating company. But did make some of their own glass, including ... morethe uranium green color of our glasses. They also got many of their blanks from Heisey, so there remains the possibility that Heisy made the glass and Maryland Glass Co. decorated it. Each goblet stands 4 3/4" tall. 3 1/16" rim to rim and 2 13/16" at the foot. All five goblets have light usage wear. Two goblets have just the slightest rough spots on the rim(better felt than seen) and one glass has a 3/16" flea bite on the rim. Outside of those tiny issues, glasses are in excellent condtion! 2nd to last photo shows this goblet with the taller version. Also currently at auction. Am figuring depression era(BUT I could be wrong) I know my glass& am usually pretty close. They have the typical'inclusions' that older glass has(nothing that detracts from their beauty of course! a lovely needle etched pattern of a half flower(un-bloomed flower I am guessing. The glass itself is panel optic, meaning you can see vertical lines(that aren't really lines. around the bowl that give it a unique optic effect. Not sure how well you can see that in the photos. I did notice that you can see some marks around the rim in the photos-just smudging, sorry. Measurements: 5.375" tall Capacity: 4oz Glasses are in excellent condition with no chips.
