18th Century Gold Engraved Hollow Stem German Wine glass Coat Of Arms Saxony
A rare early 18th Century(about 1750) German wine glass with teared hollow stem. Flattened knop, bubble in bowl bottom and Gold Gild engraving of the Coat of Arms of the Electorate of Saxony(1356-1806) Measures 6 inches tall and bowl is 2 3/8 inches wide. I purchased this in Urbanna Virginia which is one of the oldest towns in America(circa 1680) Perhaps with research this can be traced to one of the first families of Urbanna like the Wormeley, Lee's, Motagues or Robinsons. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks but does have a few inclusions common to hand made glass of this age. The engraving is Gold filled but has heavy wear. Rough pontil with folded foot and conical kick. Any question I would be happy to answer.

Lovely engraving ... moreof the coat of arms of Sir Key Van Anvyll who was knighted in 1503 at Baynard's Castle in London by King Henry VII. I could not find any information about him. Just that he was a foreign knight. The spellings from those times have changed and his descendants might have a different spelling now(Anvylle, Anville, Anwyll, etc) The name"Van" seems Dutch, but the city of Anville is in France. On the viewer's left the field is blue and the wing is silver. On the viewers right the bars are silver and red. I received this info from another ebayer. They do research of coats of arms. 18th Century Wine Glass - Knop Stem - Fold in Foot - Jacobite?* - FREE SHIP**
18th Century Wine Glass. Featuring bucket bowl with a single knop stem& a fold in/under foot& open tear in stem. Fairly rough pontil on the bottom. There could very well be a'nod* to the Scottish Jacobite rose in this glass. If you look into the inside of the glass(see pic 2) you will see 7'circles. A larger one in the center with 6. Smaller around the outside of it. If you look at a drawing of an OPEN Jacobite Rose, you will see the center with 6'dots' around it. Since this is the same time period& the 7 dots have no other reason to be there I made the possible connection. I spoke to antique glass dealer& he didn't think it was to far fetched of an idea. However, I don't have ANY proof as yet of this-just an idea. Am waiting for another opinion. Measurements: 6.125" tall Capacity: 5oz Condition: ... moreExcellent condition with the ONLY issue being a slight hazing inside the stem where the open tear sits. A Set of Four 18th Century Gilded Cordial Glasses Circa 1770
These are a set of hand blown 18th century cordial glasses. Circa 1770. They have cut bowls and stems and are decorated with gilded rococo flourishes and pastoral scenes. The designs on each glass are different(see pics) The feet are plain and have fire polished pontils. While that is somewhat unusual for 18th century glasses, it is the norm for these. I have seen these glasses attributed to Reisengebirge by European auction houses. More recently I have seen an attribution to the Potemkin Glass Factory in Russia. Condition is very good. The gilded shows only slight wear. The cut rims of the bowls show some micro-nibbles that are fairly typical wear for old cut glass rims. No evidence of restoration. Dimensions vary slightly between gasses. Height: 4 1/2" Bowl: 1 1/2" Foot: 2 1/8"
