7 Blown Crystal Pedestal Stem Sweetmeat Glass w Domed Foot 18th C Georgian Style
Set of 7 Blown Crystal Pedestal Stem Sweetmeat Glass w Domed Foot 18th C Georgian Style These measure just under 6 inches tall and the rim is 3.5" in diameter. You are bidding on a superb set of 7 hand made blown crystal sweetmeat pedestal stems. Aside from a few minor impurities that can be seen in the glass. These are top quality. They ring like bells when struck with the fingernail and the sound is sublime. These are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. In my humble opinion these unsigned stems are equivalent in quality to Stueben. It took a lot of skill to make these, they feature a hollow stem and a domed foot with a folded edge and a rough pontil on the underside. From my research I learned that this type of stemware was in fashion during the early to mid eighteenth century. These were an estate sale find, I don't ... moreknow exactly how old they are but the style is definitely 18th century. They came from an estate that had some extremely old family heirlooms. Please check out all the pictures and feel free to ask me any questions prior to bidding. I pack all my items with extreme care and I ship worldwide. Like need or want them? Don't wait! Bid now! Each goblet has a drape pattern with detailed flowers finely cut along the wider top area of the bowl. The stems are a baluster style with a single knop and a single ring. The amazing quality of these goblets is the sound which they make, and how long the sound rings for, just handling them brings out a long resounding ring, truly unusual they sing to you. There is no damage on the glasses. American cut glass is generally divided into 3 periods. Early(1771 to 1830) Middle(1830 to 1880) And the Brilliant(1880 to 1910) or even to 1917) In that the glasses phosphorus lime green, they may be from the Early American Brilliant Period or as referenced by Swan"Circa 1740, manganese was used” The use of manganese ... morethat which was the first step in verifying a possible date. The first american cutters such as Hawks& Dofrflenger& Gillilanz& Niland were all had English Anglo Irish backgrounds and so there first(original) designs were all anglo Irish styling. Hawks& Dorflinger cut numerous stem patterns that were based upon or even exactly the same as the stems that flourished during the English Georgian period. Then we further researched the articles at Laurie Leigh Antiques whom shows numerous Georgian articles of which these glasses are similar in design and style. The two glass we have listed stand apart from our other American Brilliant period glass. The ring when pinged resounds for 10 to 15 seconds. Longer then our other pieces. Perhaps these are old Waterford C 1729 to 1851. Irish cut glass(Waterford in particular) reached its greatest fame from 1790 to 1825. The excise tax was imposed on Ireland in 1825, as in England, when less lead was used to save weight. Could the unusual length of the resounding ring verify that they are early Waterford, we do not know. In any case, since the articles are not signed we must leave the dating and final decision to the buyer. We use
