Antique Ironstone Banded Soap Dish Green & Brown Stripes Shabby Meets Preppy
This antique soap dish is made of heavy ironstone and has green and brown bands around the rim. It has aged beautifully. With overall crazing and age discoloration under the glaze that has turned the color to a creamy white/light ivory. As shown. There are numerous glaze pops below the rim and a spot of missed glaze on the rim as shown in closeup. There is wear to the bright spring green and reddish brown bands around the rim, but the dish has no chips or cracks. This would look great on top of a gentleman's dresser to hold keys, spare change, or cufflinks.

This was originally part of an 8 piece toilet set(chamber set) That would be the large covered two or three piece waste jar. Lidded chamber pot, large pitcher and wash bowl, smaller water pitcher, shaving mug, covered two or three part soap dish, horizontal razor box and vertical toothbrush holder. This brown transfer ware pattern is called Etruscan Vases. It measures about 5 1/4" long by 4" wide. The base stands 2" tall and is 4" tall to the lid's rose bud finial. The insert is pierced so the soap did not, and would not today, set in water becoming mushy and sloppy.ewwww. This was made by either Gildea& Walker, G. Rare Antique Ironstone China Warranted- Ivory Colored Soap Dish Dated to 1814-1837! Up for auction is a antique soap dish dating to 1814- 1837! The British Royal Arms. An oval shield divided into quadrants and flanked by a lion and a unicorn, was in use from 1801 to 1837. From 1801 to 1814, the shield had a cap over it. The cap was changed to a crown from 1814 to 1837. The soap dish is good antique condition and has very little staining and still has a nice luster to it. There are 3 small chips around the upper rim and one very small one by one of the drainage holes. There is also a crack. If you can call it that, on the upper rim– it almost seams like it as repaired itself over the years because it is very smooth to the touch and does not affect its durability. The color is white-ivory and there are 8 small and I large drainage holes on ... morethe top and 1 large on the side. Quality antique ironstone china by Burgess and Campbell of Trenton New Jersey. Dates to around 1900? Very nice condition with wear consistent with age and usage. Complete matching three piece set includes soap dish. Lid and strainer. The dish is white with dark rose colored stripes and black/gray trim. Beautiful white ironstone soap dish in the Fig Cousin pattern. Potted by Davenport in 1853. Mark and register mark seen in picture 5. Dish is pictured in Jean Wetherbee's book"White Ironstone, A Collector's Guide" on page 24. Dish bottom measures approximately 5 1/2" x 4" x 2" high; measures 4 1/2" including lid. Lid has four holes for ventilation. Has lovely fig finial with spray of leaves and two smaller figs below. Bottom has fig and leaf on all four corners. Bottom has overall light crazing. Under glaze, so retains bright, shiny surface. Lid has the same type of crazing with a couple of discolor spots. Has a light hairline across top, approximately 2" long. Antique English White Ironstone Covered Soap Dish in the Ring and Cable Shape by J& G Meakin 1875-1890. 3 3/4" High x 6" Wide x 4 1/4" Deep. The condition of this covered soap dish is very good. It has a glassy glaze and no crazing. There is no damage. Only a little line where the handle attaches to the cover. But ~ this is in the making. There is a drainer inside. Although it fits well, it is a slightly different color and has crazing. So. I think it was added and not original ~ but, it works.

The gold filigree is worn around the outside edge of the lid but is good on the handle. The inside soap holder does have small flaws from production and does show crazing from age.
