The ... moretwo bright green panels and the one cobalt blue panel are all under the glaze. The flower and leaves on the three alternate panels are all hand-painted over the glaze. The pitcher has six lobed ribs or panels. It measures 4" 10.2 cm) in height and 2 3/4" 7 cm) in diameter at the widest point. Most of these were done in earthenware or a heavy Ironstone. This one is a thin porcelain and you can see light shining through it when held up to a lamp. There is a little purple luster trim which was on the green panels. But is worn. There is a luster stripe on the knobbed bracket handle. It also has the early prominent spout. There is a quarter inch thin, faint,U" shaped line on the inside rim of the pitcher, that does not go through to the outside. This line can be seen in the two pictures of the top in this listing. There Is An A/f Issue To Consider. Namely The Handle Has Been Detached And Re-Stuck And At The Junction Where It Was Applied To The Neck, There Are One or Two Other Small Reattached Pieces. There is some interesting history attached to this early plate. One of the most famous establishments of King's Road in Brighton was Muttons Hotel and Restaurant. Opened by William Sexton Mutton, a confectioner, between West Street and Russell Street in the 1840s. Almost an institution of Brighton society, it closed in 1929 and Kingswest was later built on the site, but it is remembered in Cuthbert Bede's novel, Matins and Muttons" This plate is about 9" in diameter. Antique 19thC. 8T Gaudy Welsh Imari Cobalt Burnt Orange Biscuit Jar Brass Handle
Up for your consideration is this 19 th century strikingly lovely potted Gaudy Welsh Cobalt blue. White and burnt orange biscuit jar, with a solid brass lid, rim and handle. The hand painted pattern has what appears to be burnt orange poppies or tulips popping out of a cobalt blue flower pot. Surrounded by little leaves and blossoms dancing around. It is based. As is most Gaudy Welsh, if not all, on Japanese Imari and a little similar to‘Flower Basket II’ But is not as dainty as it is bolder and more robust in nature. Condition and Approximate Size: Ø Overall: NO chips. Cracks, crazing, hairlines, flea-bites, or stains, but there is a minimal amount of light and normal age related very light surface scratches. Please note in the 1st and 2 nd photo I just noticed a bit of brownish mark on the left brick colored flower…it was only a residue ... moreof something and it came right off with a soft damp cloth. Ø Brass: handle is firmly attached and in great condition. But ever so slightly leans to one side. See 4 th photo. On one side only at the top edge. It appears there is a little rubbed area, along with a few other age related imperfections or tarnishing{patina} of the brass, as shown in most of the photos. Ø Glaze: fine and glossy. With only firing flaws of a few glaze pops and excess enamel spots here and there. Ø Gilt: most is gone. Leaving only traces of it here and there. Ø Hallmark: there is in blue a number 15 and in red a number 6. Both probably being the signature of the artist and/or pattern name. Most likely the patterns were assigned numbers and Americans assigned names to the each particular pattern. In all. There may be up to approximately 300 different patterns or designs to Gaudy Welsh pieces. Since my book with a partial list shows that a number 15 designates‘Welsh Warbonnet’ which does not look like this biscuit jar, I do not know what the name is for this jar I am listing and I just call it a flower pot in triplicate. Rare Gaudy Welsh Condiment Server With Original Spoon
Listed today is a beautiful rare piece of Gaudy Welsh china. This is a condiment set with a lidded mustard pot. A pepper shaker and a quatrefoil reeded salt dish. This set includes the rarely- included mustard pot spoon. As stated in the condition report, the pepper shaker is missing its cork. There is also a hairline that is not observable from the top but starts where the three parts are joined. Other than this blemish that seems to have been in the item possibly since the making, the item is in very nice condition. Please see the pictures included. Beautiful Gaudy Welsh Milk Jug with lustre trim- it is such a pretty shape too and will date c1850 It stands approx. 4 1/2" high to handle top. Condition for age is pretty good with just a little light stain in places which does not detract in my opinion- there is a minor factory firing crease at the top of the handle where it joins the body which has always been there and a glaze factory flaw also on the inner spout tip where the glaze has'pooled' not damage or repair! Hand painted. Measure 9" I think they are Gaudy Dutch or Gaudy Welsh. We acquired them at a Kansas estate auction of antique glassware and porcelain. The owners had purchased many excellent items. I has a repair on the lip but it is quite well done and I have included several pics of it so you can see it well. This pitcher has a metal lid called Clarks Weighted Lid. There is a weight attached inside that closed it automatically- pretty cool feature for this old pitcher! It has an Imari style floral design trimeed in gold and the colors are dark cobalt blue and a rusty red color. No other chips or cracks or other damage. There is one spot on the outside if you look at it with the handle to the right. Just below the center strip in the cobalt area there is a deep scratch or a manufacturing flaw inside that round decoration. It is hard to see but you can feel it if you rub across it. Kent Fenton England Gaudy Welsh urn or vase in great condition with no chips or cracks. It does have overall crazing inside and out. Which is darker in some spots than others, due to age. There is one very small surface glaze chip on one corner of the base, which does not take away from the piece or how it displays. The gold on the handles and around the rim shows some wear. Measures approx: 6" wide and 7" tall. It is marked in red on the bottom to the side, however half of the stamped mark is not there. Part of the design registry numbers are Rd.
