Antique Staffordshire pearlware jug, hand painted hunting scene & copper lustre
A remarkable survivor. This soft paste pottery jug probably dates to the early 19th century and is likely to have been produced in Staffordshire, England, judging by the style(similar pieces with this type of design can be found on antique websites and on Ebay) It features a hunting scene with men, dogs, horses and a deer, surrounded by leaf and floral motifs in browns, pinks and greens with copper lustre highlighting. The ground glaze is pearly off-white. Unfortunately, the jug's handle was broken during the 19th century but it has been lovingly repaired with staples and wire(please see the images above for further information) In addition to this historic repair, the jug has age-related wear to the decoration and crazing to the glaze on the exterior and interior. However, it remains an attractive piece and the repaired handle rather ... moreadds to its charm. The decoration is entirely hand-painted. There are no clear maker's marks to indicate exactly which factory made it but there does appear to be an indentation on the base which could be a maker's symbol of some sort. The jug measures 5.5 inches in height and 5 inches in diameter at the widest point. Further images can be supplied upon request: any questions gladly answered. Beautiful Large Victorian Pottery Jug Blue& White& Copper Lustre: C.1880 This is a beautiful Victorian jug moulded with flowers. It is made of white earthenware. With the design highlighted in underglaze blue and copper lustre( not gilding) It dates from the late nineteenth century- Id say made between 1860 and 1890. Condition: Fair- there is some glaze loss to the rim and edge of the handle. But no chips, cracks or restoration. Size: about 7 3/4 inches high( 19.5 cm) Weight: 634 grammes Payment must be made within 7 days of winning bid unless other arrangements have been made. If there is a problem with payment. Antique Victorian Sprigged Copper Lustre Jug C 1860 Small Size 3 1/2 inches Here we have a pretty example of a mid 19th century copper lustre jug or pitcher dating from around 1860. It has an elegant shape and has a central blue band with sprigged hand painted decoration. The sprigged scene on both sides of the jug shows a figure with a dog all picked out in colourful enamels. It has a relief moulded detailing- beading and ribbing around the neck. Centre and lower section. The jug stands 3 1/2 inches high so probably intended for use as a cream jug but very clean inside as if it has never been used just displayed. There is no maker's mark as is the case with items of this period but there is a number 493 on the base. Possibly a decorator's mark.
