RARE Set Of Antique Brass Bells-Middleeastern??-Cast Iron Chain
For sale is a beautiful set of antique brass bells which are linked together. These both have some etched design on the outside and the smaller one has a 2" metal sign on the outside. There is a 14" long chain on the top with a hook on the end which are both cast iron. I believe that this is from Turkey or another country in that area. It is missing the ringer on the bottom but still has a great sound as the two bells strike each other. If you have more info on this please let me know. Please email with any questions. Patria watches were imported by Omega Watch Company in 1919 and again in 1925. It is possible that this was handmade by one of the owners of the company. When I bought the off the antique dealer it was caked in mud& dirt, after giving it a good soak in soapy water it came out as you now see it. I'm not sure of it's true age. We know that the ring was regularly enjoyed over the past century. But it displays absolutely minimal wear. The setting is cleanly holding the turquoise jewel and all edge work remains without flaws Around the edge of the setting, we can see a very thin line of the original bronze material shining through. For any jewels with a finished coating, It was customary for Ottoman artisans to reveal a small section of the underlying material in an effort to prevent patrons from thinking that the artisan was trying to pass off his work as the finished metal. In this case, the thin bronze strip is revealed as a way of notifying potential buyers that the ring is ... morenot solid silver. The detail work in the band and in the bezel is absolutely marvelous. All line work is clear and and original. No denting or damage of any kind is visible. The ring is in original condition. Meaning that I have not cleaned, polished, or restored it in any way. As most of you know, nearly any type of restoration can diminish an antique's value. PROVENANCE/SOURCE: The ring at auction was created during the earliest years of the 20th century in the Turkey. To be most specific. This piece was crafted in the Antalya province, a wealthy area on the Mediterranean Sea in the southwestern corner of the Anatolian Peninsula. At the time the area was still under the control of the Ottoman Empire, but the empire was collapsing and this was likely among the last rings created during that regime. The ring is very charming, exhibiting a blend of Middle Eastern and Southern European styles. DESIGNATION/STYLE: The item is formed of a high quality bronze alloy. Coated with a classy silver finish.
