A rare. Ancient Urartian bronze belt, dating to the 8th- 7th Century B.C. The belt of sheet-like form. With peripheral perforation holes for attachment of original fabric lining, now perished. Decorated throughout with raised ridges and incised geometric decoration of remarkable detail. The original ring-buckle, often lost, is present here. This belt. Almost certainly ceremonial(and not intended for everyday use) would originally have been found in an important Urartian burial, probably adorning the body of a wealthy warrior. Belts such as this are almost exclusive to the ancient civilization of Urartu, who were masters of metalworking.1. Urartu is a fascinating and mysterious civilization. Lost from human memory until it was rediscovered in the 1800's. The Urartian culture was located in modern day Eastern Turkey, neighbouring the ancient ... morestates of Media and Babylon, with whom they were often at war. They were accomplished artists, metalworkers and builders, with many fortresses discovered near Lake Van, Turkey.2 Their culture was forgotten for millennia, probably as a result of its mysterious, abrupt and complete destruction in the second half of the 7th Century BC. A large orange-ware terracotta Phoenician transport amphora. Ca. 5th- 3rd century BC.The vessel, with long body and conical base, the shoulder tapering to the mouth, no neck, the rim vertical without a lip, round handles to either side. The vessel is decorated large with ridges around the mouth, just below the shoulder, smaller ridges on the lower body, and matching ridges to the top on the base. Intact, no breaks, cracks, repair or restoration, earthen deposits, a few scuffs, otherwise pristine. An ancient south Arabian limestone pillar stele. Dating to the 3rd– 1st century BC. The head sculpted in relief with robust features; prominent ridge. Long nose, almond-shaped hollow eyes and a terse mouth. A Sabaean inscription runs beneath, likely the name of the dedicator. A confidently carved, artistic example with a haunting quality. Cut off by great deserts to the north. South Arabia remained a virtually inaccessible and semi-mythological region throughout classical antiquity. The sculpture of the period seems to typify this sense of mystique, of the unknowable. This piece may have been a votive offering from an individual seeking assistance or protection from the gods. Small special decorated herodian oil lamp. this lamp symbolize the period between the Hellenistic and the Roman period in the holy land The nose is typical herodian roman style but the shoulder decorated with hellenistic"sunburst" style RARE Herodian Oil Lamps. Also known as, Knife Parted Lamps, are dated between 37 BCE and 70 CE. They have a wheel made round body and the nozzle was separately made and later attached. These lamps are very seldom decorated and if there are any decorations they would be simple dots or lines appearing on the nozzle. The Herodian lamps are usually found in Judea and Jerusalem, therefore it seems they were mainly used by the Jewish population. A few were also found in the Galilee and in Transjordan.
