Circa 1500 BC to 500 BC. This piece was sculpted in the form of an animal. Possibly a bull, and was probably made as a staff finial or pommel for a knife, sword, or other weapon- tool. The form is quite abstracted and stylized with four feet and a tail integrated into the body and an elongated neck with a small head and ears on either side of a pair of very lengthy horns. There is a thick cylindrical, hollow tube-like form rising from the back which has a thick lip. Ancient Near Eastern Early Iron Age Iron & Bronze Sword - 900 BC
A rare Ancient Near Eastern bronze and Iron sword. Dating to approximately 900 B.C. A very rare example. Notable for the almost complete preservation of its iron blade, which is often missing or so badly corroded that it has been removed and replaced with a bronze blade. The blade itself is of triangular form and of thick section. Decorated with three converging ridges on both sides, which accentuate the length and robust feel of the weapon. The hilt is of typical form, made of bronze with discoid pommel and ridge decoration on the handle. The tang insertion of the blade is visible from the back of the hilt, entering the pommel. Perhaps in antiquity the pommel may have been capped with a limestone or lapis-lazuli ornament. Length of sword: 17 3/4 inches. Condition. Exceptional. Unrestored. Beautiful Bronze Luristan Officer's Sword and Dagger 1200 - 800 BC
Up for sale are two well preserved pieces of Persian history. The two items for sale are a Luristan short sword and an accompanying dagger. Likely wielded by an officer between 1200 and 800 BC. These two items come from a private collection originally purchased back in the 1950's which was then purchased by my father and I about five years ago as part of a numismatic(coin) collection contained within an estate sale. The original tags are still attached as originally appraised back from the 1950's dealer who sold it. Dimensions can be seen in the picture attached which puts the sword at just over 20" long and the dagger at just around 10" in length. You will also notice that there is a hairline fracture visible on the short sword. It was determined that the sword, not long after it was made, experienced a breakage while likely ... morebeing used in battle. The blade was repaired around the same time period and has oxidized evenly with the rest of the bronze material contained in the blade. Inlays and gemstones were also likely to have existed at some point as well but I do not know if such speculation is accurate. These pieces belong in a museum but I have enjoyed them long enough and want to move onto something else. Enjoy.

Circa 1500 BC to 500 BC. Bronze with an encrusted green ancient patina. The form is quite abstracted and stylized. There is a thick cylindrical. Hollow bottom to attach the staff or sword onto and a hole where it may have been pinned into the sword or staff. The hollow tube is encrusted with soil on the interior. The knobbed form is decorated with rope-like sculptural designs giving the appearance that the pommel is tied in place onto the sword or staff. An ancient Near Eastern Luristan bronze split‘ear’ pommel sword. Dating to around 1000 BC. A formidable Bronze Age sword. The long blade with a broad mid-rib. Tapering to a point, the bifurcated pommel cast onto the hilt, itself separately cast to the blade and joined with a v-shaped section. The distinctive shape of the pommel has hollow sections which would once have contained inlays of bone or wood. The pommel is also adorned with incised decoration. At first glance this impressive sword would appear to be utilitarian weapon. Designed simply for battle. But look closer and you will see that the blacksmith has taken time to inscribe various patterns across the pommel. A care and attention that suggests this was a prized object in antiquity.
