One of the finest ancient spears that we have handled. This large Persian Luristan spearhead is a beautiful example of its type and dates to the Near Eastern Bronze Age. Around 1400- 1200 BC. This elegant yet powerful blade survives with complete edges and is of typical lanceolate form. With pronounced mid-rib and long tang with a rats tail curl at its end. This striking weapon was produced by the expert bronze working society known to us as the Luristans. And would have originally formed part of the burial contents of an elite Persian warrior. These individuals often served as mercenaries in the service of rulers in the lowlands of Mesopotamia. The ancient inhabitants of mountainous Luristan were pastoralists and would have followed an annual cycle of migration between their warm low-lying winter pastures and the high cooler summer grazing ... moregrounds.
