ANCIENT NEAR EASTERN BRONZE BATTLE AXE HEAD 4500 years old
This bronze axe head is not from Luristan but was made hundreds of miles to the west of Persia. It predates Luristani weaponry by 2000 years. This is also not a tribal weapon. This is an excellent example of one of the world's first manufactured Military weapons.By that statement I mean to say that these were made in large quantities to equip particular ranks of a country's army.Per Ebay policy I cannot mention this axehead's country of origin but if you know archaeologica you already have that answer. There is an old excavation inventory number painted on the back of the shaft hilt(195)I believe this was excavated probably in the 1930's when there was huge effort by the British to unearth the tombs and mudbrick temples of that area.I did purchase this item from Great Britain.313 grams. The shaft is 3 5/8" from the back, the ... moreblade is 3 5/8" from the forward edge of the shaft hole, one chip on the upper shaft edge, nice original patina. This item was made to exacting standards and it has"perfect" symmetry. If you are an ancient history buff you understand one of the reasons Phillip of Macedon conquered all of Greece was because of the standard of his weapons production. They maintained weapons factories and were able to standardize production and quality. This country's army also had standardized weapon production. Many bronze axeheads from other parts of the Near East are readily available on Ebay. This type is much harder to find.

Ancient Bronze Age Phoenician / Canaanite Duck Bill Axe - 2100 BC
An ancient Canaanite bronze duck bill axe. Dating to 2100– 1800 BC. It is not hard to see why in modern times. These distinctive weapons are termed “duck bill” axes. Yet to the ancient Canaanite who wielded this weapon, it was an object of great power and significance. Given the scarcity of the metal in this area during the middle Bronze Age, these were clearly not utilitarian tools, but weapons and religious artefacts for dedication to the gods. As well as being pioneering traders and seafarers. The warriors of the Canaanites were rightly respected in the ancient Levant. Around the time this weapon was forged, the Canaanites had begun to infiltrate the Egyptian Delta, and by around 1700 BC they had conquered Lower Egypt itself, founding a dynasty known as the Hyksos. The term LURISTAN references to artifacts made by a society of semi-nomadic people that once lived in the mountainous region of Northwest Iran. Little is known of this ancient culture but the most impressive traces are that of the bronze artifacts they left behind that can be found in parts of present-day Turkey. Iran and Afghanistan. These include highly decorative equipment for their horses. Ceremonial containers and numerous weapons ranging from simple utilitarian pieces on up to elaborate masterpieces of warfare. It is theorized that the Luristan bronzes were crafted by the earliest existence of the Median empire but this has never been proven as written records of the Medes have not survived. Bronze Age Miniature Stone Axe - PF.2341
Origin: Near East Circa: 1900 BC to 1700 BC Dimensions: 1.375" 3.5cm) high x 1" 2.5cm) wide Collection: Biblical Antiquities Medium: Stone The Bronze Age was a period in the civilization's development when the most advanced metalworking(at least in systematic and widespread use) consisted of techniques for smelting copper and tin from naturally occurring outcroppings of ore. And then alloying those metals in order to cast bronze. The Bronze Age forms part of the three-age system for prehistoric societies. In that system, it follows the Neolithic in some areas of the world. In many parts of sub-Saharan Africa, the Neolithic is directly followed by the Iron Age. The place and time of the invention of bronze are controversial, and it is possible that bronzing was invented independently in multiple places. The earliest known tin ... morebronzes are from what is now Iran and Iraq and date to the late 4th millennium BC, but there are claims of an earlier appearance of tin bronze in Thailand in the 5th millennium BC. Arsenical bronzes were made in Anatolia and on both sides of the Caucasus by the early 3rd millennium BC. Some scholars date some arsenical bronze artefacts of the Maykop culture in the North Caucasus as far back as the mid 4th millennium BC, which would make them the oldest known bronzes, but others date the same Maykop artefacts to the mid 3rd millennium BC. The Bronze Age in the Near East is divided into three main periods(the dates are very approximate) EBA- Early Bronze Age(c.3500-2000 BC) MBA- Middle Bronze Age(c.2000-1600 BC) LBA- Late Bronze Age(c.1600-1200 BC) Metallurgy developed first in Anatolia, modern Turkey. The mountains in the Anatolian highland possessed rich deposits of copper and tin. Copper was also mined in Cyprus, Egypt, the Negev desert, Iran and around the Persian Gulf. Copper was usually mixed with arsenic, yet the growing demand for tin resulted in the establishment of distant trade routes in and out of Anatolia. The precious copper was also imported by sea routes to the
