An elegant. Unusual and well preserved Ancient Luristan Late Bronze Age Pick Axe, dating to approximately 900 BC. The Axe. Of high copper content, is of typical Luristan form, with straight robust shaft and blunt edge, cylindrical socket and a spikey projection at the back. The lower margins of the socket have parallel converging points. Indentations and remnants of the original wraps can be seen on the proximal shaft- extremely rare. Blunt ended shafts were meant for causing depressed fractures and deep lacerations to the head. Probably originally for ceremonial use. This artifact would originally have formed part of the burial contents of a wealthy Luristan Warrior's tomb. The Bronze Age Peoples of Ancient Luristan. This Asian Bronze Dagger-Axe features a thin blade sharpened all the way around. The long rectangular section(hilt) would have been inserted through a slit at the end of a long wooden shaft. The holes on the blade would have en used to bind the axe to the shaft. It is incised throughout with an intricate script pattern.
