The main structure is satinwood which has a lovely blonde finish to the wood. Whilst into the structure of this has been embedded the amazingly intricate inlay work consisting of floral scrolls, leaves, urns, emblems and other heraldry. The amount of craftmanship that has gone into this is breathtaking if you imagine each piece of design has to be cut from the softer fruitwoods and then embedded into the main structure of the desk. You can only imagine how long this would take to achieve for a piece like this. The term'Carlton House' has become a popular phrase to describe a writing table with a low superstructure that encloses the sides of the writing area as well as the back. The Prince of Wales. Later George IV, commissioned a table of this model in the 1790s for Carlton House. The desk has a leather topped writing area surrounded by small drawers. Cupboards and storage areas. There are also five larger drawers to the front of the desk so there is ample storage space on this piece. Each of the drawers also has more inlay work, as do the legs and the sides. This would make for a stylish piece for your home, offered as it is in perfect condition. The piece also sits on brass castors so it is easy to move around. We are expecting a lot of interest in this piece which we were lucky enough to buy from a private house call in Regents Park London. The piece is solid and sturdy and will last for generations and hence would also make for a great heirloom. There is a small drawer under that is suitable for writing material or vanity objects. Along with this Desk comes a Teak wood chair made by John Stuart INC in the Mid Century. Both items match each other even though they were not made as a set. New fabric has been added to the chair seat. The colors of the fabric are black and white. A special blend of oils were used to permanently restore the finish back to its original luster. The set has not been refinished. There is slight normal antique wear to the desk top but the restoration has brought the finish together making it an even shine. When this is done to new furniture it's called Antiquing and its a very popular style. The Chair is sturdy and in fantastic condition. Again. Inside you can fit lots of glassware. The inside dividers are mixed woods. The backer is thin plywood, and there's a small hole in the upper back so you can pass an electric cord inside to add a light, power strip, etc. There is an old lock mechanism on the side of the cabinet for the tambour, but I do not have a key. Age estimate of this piece is mid century, likely 1940's- 1970. The only mark found is on underside"MADE IN YUGOSLAVIA" It has age-appropriate wear and some stains on the wood top and the work surface. There is some wear to the back edges of the veneer on the sides. It has not been cleaned up. Overall, it presents fairly well. It is a very heavy piece of furniture. These are extremely rare to find anymore and one in it's original presentation case is truly an exceptional find. This Omega Desk clock has an inscription on the reverse side of the case showing at some time in the past it was serviced by a jeweler. The center of case has the stamped Omega logo showing it was fabricated in Switzerland and has a serial number of 7550549. We are not collectors or experts on clocks however. It appears from a brief inspection that it's missing the slow/fast adjustment pin. Please check all the photos and determine the condition for yourself. At the present time we tried to wind the clock and it turns but does not hold. The winder for the hands seem to function properly. Being that this Omega Desk Clock is nearly 100 years old and most likely needs to be serviced again before using we are offering no guarantees or refunds. Overall height is47.75" high with the writing desk top at a standard 30" height from the floor. It has a blind front oak panel where the center drawer once sat but for some reason the previous owner chose to do away with the drawer and make a blind front oak board. The original drawer guides are still intact and you could easily add a drawer box to the panel to have a top center drawer again. Very nice tiger oak grain throughout with a natural oak finish on the wood. It un-assembles into 3 parts for transport, Two side columns and desktop with tmabour and, desk top and cubby space.
