The inside of the desk also has a couple of cubby shelves. If you look below the second shelf you can see someone has cut a small hole to pass cords through. I could not find any markers markings but I am guessing from other items in the house of this estate sale it is Danish and probably from the 60's or 70’s. It is of smaller proportions making it ideal for a smaller room. The approx. measurements are: 3’ 6½” tall/ 2’ 11” across the front and is 1’ 5¼” wide. Vintage MCM Vanity This is a vintage Mid-Century Modern vanity. We believe it is composed wood with a light or blonde colored walnut. But are unable to say with complete certainty. It is marked"Wal. on the back. The 2 pedestals of the desk each feature a set of 3 drawers with fantastic MCM brass-plated pulls. The drawers are composed of solid wood and have sturdy, dovetail construction. There is also a center drawer above the knee-hole with a curved face. There is a piece of plate glass covering the center surface. We found one small chip on the front, under-surface of the glass. The vanity has the following dimensions: Height: With mirror: 66 1/4" Vanity alone: 38" Width: 48 3/8" Depth: 19" Specifics: Height to the top of the center surface: 25 1/4" Height to the top of the side surfaces: 26 1/16" Mirror: ... more40" tall by 38" wide Kneehole: 19 7/8" tall by 21 3/8" wide Center surface(where glass sits) 21" wide by 17" at the deepest point Drawers: All of the pedestal drawers are 9 7/8" wide by 15 3/4" deep. The height of each drawer. Starting with the top and moving down is: 5" 6" 7 1/4" This is in great condition overall with some general signs of age or use. The veneer surface has a slightly bumpy or crackled finish. We are not sure if this is an intentional or if it has become this way with age. There is a large chip on each of the top corners corners of the mirror. We also found paint down one side of the mirror where someone painted the wall without moving the vanity. There is also a drip of paint on the bottom/front of the left door frame. There are some red crayon marks on the interior of the center drawer. We found a few small chips on the veneered corners. 1860s Vintage Walnut Ladies' Lap Desk Portable vanity/makeup box For your consideration is this rare antique ladies' lap desk made in England in the 1860s. It is made of walnut. And the inside of the lid is padded with cushioned blue material with an oval mirror in the center. The black leather writing surface folds out to reveal a wooden letter organizer attached to the front of this piece. There are compartments for ink bottles and a covered tray for writing utensils next to the letter organizer. Two ink bottles are included- one has no lid. An engravable brass plaque is in the center of the top of the lid, and there is a large brass plate surrounding the keyhole, but there is no key. There are brass handles that are recessed into the sides of the chest. A secret slide drawer compartment becomes visible by removing a brass rod that"locks" ... moreit in place. This lap desk is very sturdy and has been stored for many years. Keeping it in incredible condition. There is a contraction crack across the top of the lap desk which is common in writing tables of this age. A piece of trim is also missing on the left edge in the front as seen in photo#5. There are minor scuffs and/or scratches on this lap desk, but they do not affect the beauty of this unique item. Measurements are 16" x 11.75" x 9.5. J.T.NEEDS 100 NEW BOND ST. The Box lid and the silver wear are all monogrammed with a capital A.N. or N.A. This proves all are original. With a little work this box would be stunning once again. Really pretty vintage vanity or piano bench. Walnut, probably from the 1930s. Possibly mahogany. The tag on the bottom says"Mount Airy" Probably the manufacturer name, maybe the region where it was made? The tag also says it's made of walnut or mahogany and may include other hardwoods. The seat cover is a new tapestry fabric. It's is in great condition for its age. It's sturdy. But does have some wear on the finish- please see photos. I took a few outdoors to show the condition in sunlight. It measures approx. 24 inches wide by 14 inches deep and is about 17 1/2 inches high at the seat and about 20 inches high including the back. Amazing Antique Walnut & Brass Inlay Work Box / Vanity Box - Restoration Project
A super find here in the form of an Antique work box. In walnut with amazing brass? inlay& detailing. I originally thought the box was completely wooden, but recently, upon inspection, and a trial with the brasso notice that the box has 100s of metal inlaid pieces, brass I believe, and has super fine detailed engraving to the corners, a few of the individual brass pieces are missing, and the box is in worn/ tired condition and would make a fabulous restoration project. The metal inlay to the lid was totally black, so after an hour with the brasso, I have revealed a brass inlay that has the letters ER engraved, and what appears to me to be a pair of pillars. This box contains 8 sterling jar tops and 2 sterling jar tops with no jars. The box's top has compartment for letters etc. About half of the top compartment can be removed via two handles to reveal the lower compartment. Blow that is a drawer for storing various jewelery. Both the top and the drawer have locks. And keys are included. At rear section of the top compartment there is a push button which releases the drawer. But an unknowable person forced the drawer out and damaged the rear of the drawer(the pieces are there and it might be restored, see photos) Also forcible damage is evident at around the lower keyhole. Antique glass with silver overlay and walnut frame with brass handles vanity/serving tray. I used this tray 40 years ago and it has been in storage for the past 12 years. The frame could use regluing at dove tails. One silver flower has a scratch in it(see photo) And the tip of one leaf is missing. The brass handles were at one time silver plated too, but most has worn off down to the brass. There are 4 rubber feet screwed to the back, see photo) The glass has some vintage scratches in the center. Over all length is 17" the oval frame alone is 14" x 12 1/4" It stands 1" from bottom of feet to top of frame. Frame has a slight bevel to it. It is a lovely old piece with lots of use left in it. Really pretty vintage vanity bench. Walnut, probably from the 1930s. Possibly mahogany. The tag on the bottom says"Mount Airy" probably the manufacturer name, maybe the region where it was made? The tag also says it's made of walnut or mahogany and may include other hardwoods. The bench has been painted with chalk paint and lightly distressed. It has also been waxed. The seat cover is a new tapestry fabric. It's is a nice sturdy little bench. It measures approx. 24 inches wide by 14 inches deep and is about 17 1/2 inches high at the seat and about 20 inches high including the back. Pickup in Boston(West Roxbury.
