Antique Completely Restored Oak Hotel Washstand with Mirror Chest Dresser No Res
You are bidding on a hotel washstand that has been completely restored by a professional refinisher. It is in more or less perfect condition now. It is finished in a medium oak color with minwax provential stain. Finished with several coats of Sherwin Williams sand& sealer and two coats of Sherwin Williams top coat water proof lacquer. The entire piece of furniture has been sprayed and sealed good, including drawer bottoms, back and bottom of the piece. The solid brass has been cleaned and lightly polished with jewelers rough. The finish is hand-rubbed and it looks like it has just be waxed. The bevel mirror is original, has some distortation because of age. The towel bar including the bar itself is all original. The base comes apart from the towel bar and mirror for easy transport. As you can see the back looks just about as good as ... morethe front. There is a horizontal crack in the back and on(each) both sides. And also a split to the top. Some areas of the finish have that old"glazed" look as if they have suffered from heat. The hand dove-tailed corner out side area of the bottom drawer includes a child's scribble drawing on right outer side of the drawer(which does not show when the drawer is closed) The plastic discs were added at some point in the recent past to the bottom of each leg. The wood is warped on 3 side panels on the left side and on 2 side panels on the right side. We have not cleaned this antique arts& crafts era chest. Or added color. Up for auction is a RARE ANTIQUE OAK SALESMAN'S SAMPLE Miniature EASTLAKE MIRRORED BUREAU/ DRESSER Circa 1870-1885. Includes antique oak ornate Eastlake style mirrored dresser with candle holders and lift up compartment on bureau. Ornate applied molding at top of fancy scrolled mirror frame. Mirror can tilt. Grid lines on drawer fronts are typical of Eastlake style of the late 19th century. Regarding wood color, it is a medium oak color(looks a bit more red/orange in the photos) Any dark areas are shadows and white areas are reflections. As you can see this is a wonderful piece and could be used in many places in a home, whether as a miniature Salesman's Sample or a doll bureau for dolls. Condition is very good, sturdy and clean, ... moreno odors, ready to go into your home. As with most antiques, it has it's minor flaws, nothing to totally distract from it's beauty, or usability, aged wood has such character. It does have some chips, dings, and marks, and one missing drawer pull. I chose to sell this item with the original pulls and it is your choice to replace them with 6 other pulls if you wish, or find a matching plain black knob. Seems to be original finish but I am not sure. Could be improved with restoration but again that is your choice. Drawers work fair, no sticking. Mirror is in very good condition and has wide bevel, might be new, and is missing the wooden backing. One peg missing underneath mirror outer frame but other three hold it in place fine. Mirror frame is attached to bureau with pegs that just slip into holes in the bureau ledge, and more brackets in back. All in all a fabulous miniature! Hard to find miniature Eastlake style. Antique Oak 3 Drawer Dresser with Unique Grape Leaf Handles 1800's
This is a stunning antique Oak dresser I bought about 30 years ago and have treasured ever since. Solid Oak. It has very unique grape and leaf handles which I had never seen before nor since. The drawers are held together with the most unique dowel type system using no nails. Please see the pictures as I have tried to show every detail. Has some markings which come from being well over a hundred years old but nothing to detract from it's beauty. One of the rails on the bottom drawer underneath needs some gluing which I have not attempted. Still opens and closes perfectly. It measures 30" wide. By 28.5" high, by 15 3/4" deep. The sideboard stands on small queen ann style cabriole feet supporting the main section where there is a carved frill to the bottom. There are two large doors eitherside of an open section and a shelf with two drawers to the ... morebottom. The doors are beautifully shaped with a carving to the top. To the centre there is the open section with bow fronted drawers to the bottom. We have left the key escutcheons in their natural iron work so they contrast beautifully with the paint. There is a nice cheval mirror on top of the dresser with a finial on top of it. The top of the dresser is showing some ware. There are a couple of scuffs and one spot. Overall this set is in good condition. I do not know the maker or exact date it was made. This set is antique and will not be perfect. The dresser measures 42 inches tall. 42 inches side to side and 23 inches front to back. It weighs 116 pounds. The headboard measures 58 inches tall, 58 inches side to side and 2 inches thick.
