Empire Dresser-Two Drawers Over Three-Mahogany?
Offered is this two drawer-over-three antique Empire style dresser. It is in very good condition. But does have a large“age crack” running the entire width of the top and a shorter one nearby that is about 8” long, as seen in the second photo. There are also numerous minor scratches. Chips, etc. I do not know the age of the dresser but I believe it to be a genuine period piece. I think it is made of veneered mahogany but I am not certain. It is well constructed– the top looks like it is all one piece. 1 1/2” thick! The top two drawers have curved fronts and all have dovetailed corners and matching wooden knobs. They have keyholes but no longer have locks. There is a key. However. The dresser measures approx. 44” high. 43 1/2” wide and 21 1/2” deep. All of the interior is in good original condit ion with great dovetailed construction of drawers. They are dovetailed front and back corners and all bottoms are the original hand planed ones. BEAUTIFUL Empire 5 Drawer Dresser or Chest with Burl Walnut Veneer
Very nice Empire 5-drawer dresser or chest with burl walnut veneer. This piece is solid. Clean and tight. Drawers are made of single-board, poplar(the grain in some boards is curly) with hand-planed bottoms,and handmade dovetail joints, Each drawer has a pair of turned, solid wood knobs. Top pair of drawers are large and deep with beautifully crafted ogee faces. Drawers do not stick at all and operate smoothly. Overall dimensions of piece are 43 inches wide by 21-3/8 inches deep by 44-3/4 inches tall. There is a charred spot on the top where a kerosene lamp tipped over burned the wood. There are a few small knicks on the edge of the veneer and has been repaired on one drawer face(see photos) Local pick up only.

It has many features consistent with his craftsmanship and style.He was regarded as one of the finest cabinetmakers in the United States. It is quite remarkable considering the state of our country at the time regarding slavery.He was African American, also known as a free man of color by historians.To be such successful entrepreneur and distinguished cabinetmaker was very rare, considering all of the societal norms at the time. Mr. Day served some of the wealthiest clients including two governors of North Carolina.Word spread quickly about his amazing craftsmanship and quality. French Empire Mahogany Marble Top Commode Chest Dresser with Gilt Mounts c. 1805

Description: This listing is for a 19th Century French Empire Period Mahogany Marble Top Ormolu Mounted Commode. Circa 1805. It is a fascinating work of art, constructed in three parts- first the marble, which is extremely heavy at just over an inch thick(1 1/16" thick) the top of the chest with the top drawer, and the bottom of the chest with the lower three drawers. Lifting the marble reveals the construction of the topmost portion. Each of the front corners with a full gallery of hand cut dovetails that lock the top into the thick corners. All of the secondaries are solid oak, joined with large pegged tenons along the frame, this large thick top joining the lower case with thick through-tenon wedged mortise joints- by ... morepulling out the wedge, the tenon drops out of the top portion, freeing it from the lower case. This lifts away from the case as long as the columns are not nailed at the top. The top drawer features the most incredible gilt ormolu mounts. Cast with stunning attention to even the smallest detail. Horizontal curled anthemions flank a seated angel, inscribing in a blank scroll. With wings furled behind, detailed even down to the tiniest feather, the angel rests with legs slightly bent as the robe flows from his legs, a trumpet peering out from behind him. Over either columnar support, gilt ormolu mounts of angels flank the top drawer, the figure on the right peering towards the sky with a globe behind him, the angel on the left sitting on a carefully crafted French Empire chair reading a scroll. The turned columns on either side rest on square plinths. Capped at the top and bottom with gold gilt flamed mounts, finely detailed throughout. Three drawers slide in and out of the case, each hand dovetailed front and back with solid oak secondary woods making up the frame and bottoms. Antique 16" Empire Miniature Chest of Drawers Empire Dresser with 7 Drawers
Offered for sale is a miniature child's toy sized empire dresser. This piece was most likely made in the early part of the 1900s. The drawer bottoms appear to be stained. They are not oxidized. The inside of each drawer is also painted, so it is hard to tell the exact age, since there is no raw exposed wood. Though, the finish on the outside has been on long enough, say 75 years to have crackled. The only way for this to happen is over time, so, we can date this piece to at least 75 years. Large high back splat. With a deck of two drawers on the top. The large top drawer underneath that has two drawers as well and then three long drawers on the bottom of the piece. The style of this is Empire. And has all the elements one would associate with that design, the overhanging large top drawer and the curved elements running down to the front ... morefeet. In as found condition. The edges have bumps and chips, and this needs a good going over with a dark polish to hide the exposed wood under the original finish. This antique lowboy dresser is said to be from period 1880 to 1910. The four top drawers are bow front and the large bottom one has a flat front with a bow board below. Being offered for sale is this Monumental American Empire Mahogany& Crotch Mahogany Dresser/ vanity with large Carved Paw Feet circa 1880's. This is a huge beautiful 19th century dresser that offers a tremendous amount of storage possibilities with all the drawers in crotch mahogany with the original glass pulls. The original crotch mahogany framed beveled dressing mirror with powerful S scroll mirror supports and carved Paw Feet with hidden casters intact on the feet and we believe this piece to also have its original finish. This outstanding Empire dresser measures 73 inches in height from the floor to the top of the mirror. Height to the sides from the floor measures 45 inches, height from the floor to the drop center portion measures 17 1/4 inches, total width of the dresser is 69 inches, total depth of 23 1/2 inches and weighs ... moreapproximately 200 lbs. The original beveled mirror measures 41 1/4 inches high by 24 1/2 inches wide. This dresser does disassemble into 7 pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. All of the locks are intact on this piece but we do not have the key. The original beveled mirror does show some streaking and spotting as common in antique mirrors. And the mirror does pivot front to back to adjust for viewing. Circa 1890's American Empire Walnut Marble Top Chest ~ Dresser w Mirror
I am pleased to offer for sale this fine Classic American Empire Walnut Marble Top Dresser/ Chest with Mirror circa 1890's. This marble top dresser/ chest is gorgeous Walnut. This splendid dresser/ chest measures a total height of 67.5 inches to the top of the mirror. Height to the top of the glove boxes is 41 inches, a total width of 41.5 inches wide and 21 inches deep and weighs approximately 160 lbs. The gorgeous mirror is framed in Walnut and rests in matching arm supports, the width of the mirror frame measures 27 1/2 inches and the old original mirror measures 27 1/2 inches high by 15 1/2 inches wide. The mirror rests is a turned walnut slot on top of the center storage drawer flanked by top glove box drawers and a drop marble top center.The base offers three large storage drawers each having gorgeous burled walnut fronts, brass ... morepulls. The locks are intact but we do not have the key. This is a wonderful example of a Classic American Empire Marble Top Chest/ Dresser circa 1890's and is fine quality, solid and very sturdy and has a commanding presence all of its own! 42 inches wide( measuring from side to side) tall 6 feet 5 inches tall deep( measuring from back to front) 19 1/2 inches. The next measurements are for how deal the drawers are the very top two are about three inches. The first one on the base of the body is 4 inches and the rest are close to 6 in she's deep. It has wonderful crotch mahogany matched veneers on its drawer fronts. The largest and top drawer also has banding. The three bottom drawers are flanked with two beautifully carved columns ending on a platform with hairy carved claw or paw feet. On the very top is a step-back with three small drawers. It has original and period brass hardware. This dresser is all original including finish. Antique Empire Dresser with Beveled Swivel Mirror 1860s Burled Walnut Located on Long Island. NY This is a very old. Large antique dresser with a swivel, framed beveled mirror. It has the original finish, which I believe is flame burled walnut, with a beautiful wood grain and patina. The end pieces on the base and the mirror supports are carved. The drawers have dovetail joints. Keyholes and the original glass pulls(keys are not included) I purchased this dresser in Atlanta 25 years ago. I was told it was a Civil War era piece dating to the 1860s. Although I have no way of verifying that. The drawers are very large and roomy. This is typical of pieces made at that time. As clothes were stored flat in drawers. This is a large. Solid piece measuring 54 in wide x 26 in deep x 35 in high. The mirror with frame measures approx. 46 in across x ... more37 in high. Overall. This piece is in good condition, but it is old and does have some imperfections. The top surface is very blotchy from what were probably water stains. American Empire Antique Wig Chest Dresser Crotch Flame Mahogany~Marble Top 1825
Here we have a very Rare Empire Dresser for your consideration. This is a very fine Wishbone Mirrored Dresser with side wig curio cabinets. These dressers have always been the Cadilac of Empire Dressers. But this one is one of the finest we have ever seen. The burled or Flame Mahogany is fantastic. The colors are just beautiful. We do not have the exact history. But the party we bought the dresser from, told us that this dresser was saved in Katrina from the Huricane in New Orleans. It was transported north and sold to raise money for the people who once owned it there. We bought it from the next party who purchased it. The dresser is of such fine quality, and has all original parts. The only thing it may need is some new screws in the back when the wig cabinets mount. At the moment it is all assembled and they were not needed. But when the ... moredresser comes to its new home, that is one addition we would suggest is new screws in the back area. The wood on every side is pristine on this piece. The only thing you would find is normal wear from a dresser of such a grand age. All that is needed is a nice polish and this piece is ready to set up and be displayed with pride. The dresser is 77" tall by 43" wide by 21" deep. The mirror attaches on each curio side with wooden screws and original knobs. The drawer fronts have the carving at the top and bottoms and the matched grain of the wood is outstanding. The hand made dove tails and brass locks, are all top notch and fine quality. The marble top inset is beautiful thick Italian Marble with nice grain and detail. There are no chips, nor cracks on the marble. It could use a polish from a marble professional. But the patina and wear only adds charactor to the piece. This is an circa 1850's walnut empire dresser. Everything is original. One mounting post on the left mirror arm is missing at the bottom. And the position post for the right arm is missing at the side. Dimensions are 42.5" wide. 42" tall(mirror adds an additional 30" and is 20" deep. I will meet the buyer halfway. I believe it is empire style. It measures 8 1/2" wide by 8 3/3" high by 4" deep. drawers are all dovetailed by hand and square head nails used for the other parts. There is grooves on the top drawers where I believe there was a mirror at one time which has been long lost. It is missing one pull and I don't know if they are original. One leg is missing in the back. the piece does have a piece off of the front edge of the top. I believe it is the original finish with wear from the years. early empire mahogany chest dresser turned columns very early period piece
for sale a very early empire chest of drawers or dresser. made of mahogany. this piece is as old as dirt. the drawer bottoms and the back of the chest is all hand chamfered. the joints are all hand cut dovetails. what few nails were used to stabilize the bottom of the drawers to the back are square nails. it features four drawers. None the same size. one large one on the top that is stepped out under which are situated two nicely spiral turned columns which come to rest on a platform that the turned front legs affix to. back legs are also turned. the feet or legs all have casters inserted in them. there is a molded trim along the bottom of the chest. it has a few minor dings here and there, none of which take away from its function or beauty plus there are a couple of small pieces of boards chipped out. they are all small and doubtful any ... morewill show in the pictures. it was faded and sun bleached when i dug it out of the barn. i cleaned it with new life and then rubbed a bit of stain on it and sprayed it with lacquer to dry the stain. i do not think it has ever been refinished. at any rate, it is a nice solid very old dresser. i am starting it for less than i paid years ago. 500 back then would make a pretty good down payment on a new car. it is a fairly large chest being 22.5 inches deep, 43 inches wide, and 48 inches tall. overall a very nice hand crafted empire chest made circa 1860. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyers expense. good luck.

Antique Country Empire Dresser
This is a beautiful antique solid cherry Country Empire Dresser. Circa 1840-1850's. It was refinished about 35 years ago and has been in my possession every since. It is very stable with some wear, mostly on the top(see pictures) and where the drawers have scraped away at the wood when opening and closing(see pics) The top may need to be refinished or touched up. Some of the knobs are loose and need to be glued and one of the locking mechanisms is off, but I have it. It measures 49 1/2H x 40 1/2W x 22D. antique empire flame mahogany vanity dresser carved!!!!
layaway available on any of my listings should anyone have an interest in that. up for auction is the nicest empire vanity i have seen in all the years i have been messing with antiques. i bought this not long ago and have it in my dining room as there is no where else to put it in my 20 room house. i have another one in a bedroom upstairs that i will list shortly. hopefully it will sell and not this one as i want to actually keep this one. anyway. I have seen a dozen or so of these, but none this nice. it is serpentine, heavily carved mirror harp, pedestal, feet and wings, along with carved roping surrounding the vanity top. the mirror shows some fog, which does not bother me, i can have that corrected for about 100.00 should someone want that accomplished. it is free from damage or repairs as far as i can ascertain. i think the knobs on ... morethe two serpentine drawers are original as well. this is a wonderful empire piece made around 1860 or so i think out of the most wonderful flame mahogany as you will find. the piece has wonderful patina and is gorgeous. the pictures do not do it justice. it stands 49.5 to the top of the mirror, it is about 30 inches to the vanity top and 22 inches deep at the widest point of the serpentine top. it is 44 inches wide at the back of the top and 38 inches wide at the front of the top. shipping will be the buyers responsibility. you may arrange a carrier, or i will do it for you, or you may pick it up at my home. if the carrier requires a crate, i will build it for the cost of the material and will not charge any labor. the material will cost about 50.00 for the crate, if required. i need to sell one of these vanities, don't have room for both. i am starting this at probably all it is worth, but if you want the best, this is for you! i bought it because it was the nicest one i have seen in years and years. i doubt you can find another one like it, and if so, it will be expensive. i will be glad to answer any questions or supply other pictures upon request. good luck
