Finely crafted of coromandel wood veneer with inset rolled brass edges, the interior of the traveling necessaire/compendia lined with velvet and fitted with removable tray and ten cut glass jars and boxes, each with engraved decoration; the shallow compartment beneath the tray with velvet lined panel fitted for sewing implements. A pushbutton to the back edge of the interior opens a lower drawer to the front. The brass lock mechanism marked: TURNER& C LONDON" The brass on the lower drawer lock engraved: EARP Nottingham" The silverplate is not marked. During the reign of Queen Victoria. Coromandel was considered ... moreone of the most exotic, luxurious and expensive woods to work with and it was the veneer of choice for some of the finest boxes. Sourced in India and South East Asia, Coromandel wood is a variety of the Ebony family and has an incredibly dense, close-grain. The actual species of Coromandel became virtually extinct by the beginning of the 20th century. Dimensions: 5.8" high x 8.375" wide x 7.5" deep(14.7cm x 21cm x 19cm) Weight: 8.25 lbs. Condition: Overall. The cased set is in good condition with appropriate signs of age from years of handling and use. There are cracks through the cover and along the back panel of the base, with a small loss along the rear hinge and strip of veneer along the underside of the base. Connecticut selling imported glass and soon his first shop was enlarged to become a decorating studio and showroom. By 1886 the studio evolved into the C.F. Monroe Company. The company became renowned for its elegant and finely decorated Victorian opal glass known as“Wave Crest” a name which has virtually become a synonym for the Monroe Company itself. As business increased, the company was formally incorporated in 1892. However, the Art Nouveau era was ending and times were changing. By 1916 the company closed its doors and the corporation was officially dissolved the next year. Mr. Monroe passed away in 1919 and is buried in Providence. Rhode Island. Offered here is a beautiful sterling silver and cut crystal dresser jar from the Victorian era. Circa 1904. The sterling lid has 5 adorable cherub faces. The jar is from Birmingham, England. The dresser jar measures 2 1/8" tall and has a diameter of 2" There is no monogram. The side of the lid is clearly marked with the lion passant mark for sterling silver. The HM makers mark, the Birmingham city mark, and the date mark for 1904. The sterling silver lid is original to the bottom of the jar, and fits perfectly. The sterling lid has a flattened area about 7/8" long below the cherubs on the edge of the jar. There are no splits, holes or repairs. Up for sale is this outstanding Antique Victorian era swivel shaving or dresser mirror that is up on a stand. The piece is made of a heavy metal with a gold finish. The finish has normal wear and patina from use and age. The piece is extremely detailed and is in wonderful condition with no damage that I can see. It has a lovely round beveled mirror and is Antique piece and NOT a reproduction. The piece measures 15” tall and 11” wide. There are no markings that I can find on the piece other than the number 2205 on the bottom of one of the feet. The mirror is in good shape but shows a little wear to the silvering which is normal with this age of a piece. This is one of the nicest swivel mirrors I have ever seen. Don’t overlook this gem! Monogramed Clothes Brushes dating to around 1870(best guess) Probably from a Dressing Table or Travelling Set This pair of clothes brushes came together with other brushes and a fan that dates to around 1870. Judging by the style of the monogram. I believe that these brushes also date to around that time. They are made of ebony backs and boar? bristles. One brush has soft bristles and the other hard bristles(clothes brushes always came in pairs of two with different bristles) The monogramed E is made of silver-coloured metal. I think that it is silver, as they polished up nicely, but I have no way of testing if they are Sterling silver or not. The brushes measure ca.6.75" long and just over 1" wide.
