This specific chair was made during the Renaissance revival period and is heavily sculpted with the classical patterns of this era. The central slat is nicely sculpted with acanthus leaves and mounted with a cartouche flanked by detailed Lion’s Heads, all standing on the curved seat below, with nicely scrolled armrests on each side, supported by a sturdy X-shaped pediment with H-shaped stretcher for stability. Superb Antique Pennsylvania Cherry Early Sheraton Chest Of Drawers Circa 1810's Western to Central Southern PA circa 1810-1820 Once you look at this chest of drawers. You will notice the excellent craftsmanship! this chest is built like a brick loo-house! it is finely finished, and well executed. the ring turned quarter columns and feet. Are typical of south central/western PA(Franklin County area and west to Bedford) and Northern Maryland. This is undoubtedly the nicest Sheraton Chest we have ever handled! The entire case is dovetailed constructed. Of solid cherry, the 2 board sides are solid, same with the top, which is applied, over a white cedar/pine 4 board slat frame which is dovetailed into the case. the bottom board is dovetailed into the base, which is two boards of white cedar/pine. The drawers are cherry with white cedar/pine ... moresecondary woods. And unusually nice tongue and groove board bottom, which are hand chamfered into the base of the drawer case. the drawer bottoms and back are nailed on with square cut nails. the drawers are all cockbeaded around the edges in cherry. And have diamond inlaid escutcheons. the ring turned feet are mortised up into the bottom of the case. And then nailed into the sides. the prolific use of white cedar/and pine as a secondary wood in this chest is quite unusual. Some have suggested that this chest is of New England Origin. However, upon examining the construction details, it is deduced this chest is indeed of Pennsylvania or Nothern Maryland origin. We had a walnut chippendale desk a few years ago. That came out of the Gettysburg, PA area with the nearly identical usage of white cedar/pine and same ring turned quarter columns. we believe the glass knobs are replacements of much earlier brass knobs. they are however. Very nice, and undamaged by the years. the finish is 100% original and untouched. And has mellowed over time to a nice warm red colour. there are absolutely no repairs and or restorations to speak of. the back has a few new round head nails to help hold

Tiger maple and cherry Empire Sheraton inlaid chest 1850 curly antique
This beautiful chest was found in S E Ohio in a Morgan Co. farm house. The combination of woods and inlay work make this chest very appealing. The top is a one piece poplar board with a red wash on it. The sides are cherry with walnut panels. The drawers are solid tiger maple. And the inlaid keyholes are walnut. The knobs are original and screw into the front of the drawers. If you don't like porcelain, they can easily be replaced. The secondary wood is poplar and the post and legs are cherry. The chest is in original as found condition. It measures 47 1/4' tall case width 41' top is 21' deep, it has a small overhang on the back for chair rail. A fine addition to any collection. The summary of that research proves without question that the piece was made by a noted cabinetmaker, who is listed in the Early Cabinetmakers of Indiana, the seminal index of Indiana furniture makers. I'm not an expert on furniture so please look at pictures closely. This is a beautiful curly maple Sheraton Chest. Measures 37 1/2" wide x 19 1/2" deep and is 37" tall. She needs alot of work! Selling as is for repair. The patina is unbeatable. A very nice warm orangy tone. Here are the defects. Trim from left is broke off, most of it is included but I think there is a small piece missing. Right back top corner is missing Right and left sides have large vertical cracks Left leg is week Back left leg has old repair. Right top drawer pull is dented.
