This diminutive antique mahogany chest was probably a vanity or jewelry chest for a man with one drawer and original brass handle. It is mostly handmade with a hand dovetailed drawer. Hand chamfered drawer bottom and hand sawn arch ends. The front of the drawer appears to be burl. The front of the drawer and front legs are reeded. I would date it as early 1800's. Vanity/ Shaving Mirror Vintage swing mirror between spindle sides. Spindle across bottom. Underneath the finish it looks like a reddish dark wood so it could be mahogany but we are not sure. Purchased at a country estate sale and we are not sure how old it is. Measures about 21 3/8" tall. 16 1/2" across, and 10" deep. The mirror portion measures about 17 3/4" tall and 13 1/2" wide. Up for auction is a wonderful antique rosewood or mahogany fitted vanity box with brass inlay top. The box is not in perfect condition. But we feel it is nice enough to warrant a restoration or could easily be used as is as a reminder of days gone by. Measuring 10" x 7.5" x 3" the interior of the box has fitted compartments that once held various bottles or spaces for jewelry and essentials. Some of the compartments probably had paper lids that are missing. There is a mirror on the interior of the lid that is removable and has an easel back.
