Hand cut dovetailed drawers and super aesthetic case molding work. This tall chest is in exceptional condition with only one very old seasoning fissure in the veneer following one joining seam on its right hand back side. It is truly a non issue but we bring everything we note to your attention. This tall chest has all its original wide plank hand chamfered drawer panel bottoms and its back is made from all wonderful pine chamfered panels with structural tenons terminating in the back of the chest. This chest's drawers work as smoothly as the day it was made with the drawers being controlled by gripping the drawer faces on the right and left sides where the molding allows your hands to fit behind them. This is an exceptionally high quality tall chest of drawers. It is 39" long, 20 1/2" wide(deep) and 44" tall. An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either side are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key. Revealing a golden oak interior of four shelves and a single locking drawer. This drawer is hand dovetailed with solid oak secondary woods, when removed revealing an illegible signature in period script along the dust board. Affixed to the top of the armoire on the inside is an old bill of lading from Lawsonia Manufacturing Company in Philadelphia, noting it's sale of an"Exist. The cabinet features 4 drawers, the top two having several compartments. It was lined in fabric perhaps 50 years ago, and measures 14" wide, 13" high, and 11" deep. It is in very good condition. There are losses to the bottom portion of the bottom two brass pulls. Which is mostly hidden when the pulls are down. There is also moderate surface scratching to the top(as shown) and two long vertical cracks at the extreme edges of the back piece of wood, from age-related drying. This is an excellent c1850 Empire Mahogany mirror. Wide mahogany molding with a great dry surface and the original mirror(i believe) A good bit of oxidation to the mirror but overall its in excellent condition. Has a great period look to it. This early 19th century bed has a commanding presence and even appears to have its old original slats! The head-board features a arched shaped top with scrolls at the shoulders and recessed panels of flamed mahogany below. Beautiful and substantial flamed mahogany tall posts( 4 1/2 inches wide at the square portion) feature carved bee-hive type finials with the tester top frame resting on the top. The bed can also be used with out the tester frame This fine bed bolts together very tight and sturdy. The only apology I can find for this nearly 200 year old bed would be a some small veneer losses here and there on the posts at the square base portion which ... moreis not very noticeable unless very close inspection and not an issue of the sturdiness of the bed and one of the wood bed bolt covers appears to have been replaced at some point in time see last picture. Antique Empire Mahogany Settee With Leppord Upholstery Circa 1840's-50's This fabulous antique Empire mahogany settee or loveseat has an extensive carved mahogany frame especially around the front bottom border. Arms and highly carved hairy paw feet, even in the back. The upholstery is a leppord print which has been on the settee for about 30 years. It is slightly faded but in very good condition, no rips, soil spots or worn spots. The definition, proportion and exaggerated curves and detail make this piece really stand out and the upholstery helps. It is 60 inches wide, 26 inches deep, 36 inches at the highest mid-point on the back and is over all in great condition, frame is very tight and totally intact. A most beautifully designed. Carved, and flame veneered on fronts, antique late Federal/early Empire, solid mahogany sideboard. The finest craftmanship we have had in many years. The four front columns are twist rope carved, carved pinched drape collared, with carved scroll capitols, the front legs carved to match. The uprights between the drawers with relief carved stiff acanthus leaves. The drawers and doors have recessed panels, the drawers with the original mahogany knobs. Behind the doored compartments are three original shelves. Pine case, solid mahogany sides with recessed panel. The top is one fine mahogany board, the backsplash very fine, the side splash with nicely shaped ends. It measures 4'3" 51" tall by 6'1" 64" wide by 2' 24" deep. AMAZING 1800's Mahogany Empire Rope Sacking Sleigh Bed Canvas Bedding Civil War
This item is totally outside of our norm so bare with us. We purchased this unique bed at a local thrift store here in Southwest Virginia. Zip 24073. This area has a rich history of Civil War battle sites& estates. We don't know the history of this item but from what we find it is dates the early 1800's. It's either a full or 3/4 size bed. I measured the headboard& its abt. 58" wide on outside& abt. 51" wide on the inside of the legs. When assembled you would tighten/turn the 4 posts that are attached to the canvas sail/sacking bedding. The metal gears/teeth would catch in the grooves to keep the bed tight. This is where the sayings"Sleep tight" Hit the sack" originate. Your bedding/mattress would go on top. Heard some people use a futon mattress on these! There is another bed like this on ... moreebay which is in better condition($2000) but does not come with the vintage canvas sacking bottom or metal hardware(RARE) From what we can make out the canvas sail material has been printed"Portland ME" and some numbers. Not sure of the meaning of this. We have more photos available if you are interested. We are not antique collectors but do know this is a rare piece of history that should go in a museum. We can't use at our house& would love for this to find an appreciative home. When looking at pics of others its missing a slat in head board& foot board. Past down by decent in the same French Canadian family and then through marriage to Norwegian American relatives in the 1920's. Made from beautifully grained mahogany veneer over poplar and birch secondary wood and always kept indoors. There is absolutely no fading of the rich wood colors. It is approximately 34 1/2 inches high, 24 inches deep, and 48 inches wide, and is in excellent overall condition with the original finish intact. I will give it a dusting and a coat of paste wax and it will be ready to enjoy for another 100 years. Due to the size of this dresser I would prefer that it be picked up. A very finely carved antique. Circa 1890's, solid mahogany, dynamic shaped, French Empire style enclosed sofa. The front and back feet are carved claw on bun feet, the legs with carved stiff feathered wings. The skirt is carved as acanthus rosettes entwined. The arm supports are carved as stiff curving acanthus leaf, the terminal as an eagle head having acanthus neck. The back rest is carved as a swag of laurel and berry cross bound with ribbons. The fine modern fabric is a golden color with scrolling floral pattern. Sofa measures 80" wide by 46" tall by 29-1/2" deep. The seat proper measures 65" by 22" the surface of the seat 18" from the floor. Excellent condition: original dark red-brown unworn finish, no chips or cracks. The fabric is without soiling, fading, or wear.

There are two glass pane doors, with ornamental Gothic arch tops, each door with eight glass panes. Six mahogany stained maple adjustable shelves and back boards. The drawer base has flame mahogany veneers on drawer, original mahogany knobs. The furniture measures 7'6" 89-1/2" tall by 4' 48" wide by 18" deep, the shelves 11" deep. Very good plus condition: original finish, doors with lock, no key. Six panes on one door are new glass replacements, the rest old wavy glass. Small veneer chip top front edge of drawer case. Drawer retains the lock.

We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful and getting hard to find set of six period empire dining chairs that date from the 1850s ... moreera. We used to get these all the time. But this is first set of six I have had since last summer. We have brought them in the shop. Hand stripped them, re-glued, sanded, repaired anything that needed repair, stained them a rich luxurious mahogany color just like the factory and applied multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer. It is amazing how they matched up the flame mahogany back in those days when they had none of the tools that we do nowadays. These chairs have a balloon back, cut out fancy splat, curved and flame mahogany, saber style front leg, a flared back leg that follows up into the contours of the back and a rolled skirt that is all mahogany. We have reupholstered the seats in a period style fabric and if you want to change them it is very easy. We have done all the work and all you will have to do is slide your fabric right on top of ours and staple it right in. The chairs are outstanding. There is one chair that I can see a line on the back, which is normal for the age. The bookcase top offers three original adjustable shelves that each measure 37 1/2 inches wide by 9 3/4 inches deep and provide a beautiful way to display that book collection or special collectibles. The fold out writing surface has vintage replacement light brown felt and is in very nice condition. The drawer fronts are birdseye maple veneer. The bookcase has a fine brass eagle on ball, the cornice rosettes and banding of pressed wood. The two doors have beveled glass panels. The book compartment has two long stationary removable stained shelves. The secretary has a drop front with green felt writing surface. Three graduated drawers are below. This piece is in excellent original condition. The cloth attaching the side rails is not in the best of shape, it is torn. This was a high end bed, it features a ratcheting system to enable the use to tighten the ropes as the stretched over time! Matched flame grain panels and hand carved lion paw feet. The gleaming finish is in excellent condition. A few shrinkage separations from age for antique character are visible in the top. Cut from a single wide mahogany board, see photos. Large drawers have beautiful tiny hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms.
