for sale a wonderful period piece. this is an antique mahogany slipper sofa or bustle bench some are called. it is very nice condition. It has new fabric which cost about 500 to put on. the back is tufted. it has great form and beauty. the front of the sofa is 42 inches at the widest part of the outside of the feet. it is 47 inches wide at the top at the widest portion of the part of the back that flares out. it is 32 inches tall at the tallest point and 26.5 inches tall in the middle. the seat is app. 17 inches deep. it sits 15 inches from the floor. it is very cozy and comfortable. it is in great antique condition. there are a few minor veneer chips, but no loose veneers. the finish is wonderful. i just cleaned it with liquid gold so it may look a bit shinny. i started to take pictures in my house, but it was dark where i had it, so i moved ... moreit outside for better lighting. it is solid and sturdy. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck. ps. i am starting it for a lot less than i have in it. i did not realize how much it was going to cost to recover it.

There are 2 keys with this fine piece and all the locks work except the bottom cabinet on each side. The drawers and door fronts are all executed in gorgeous flamed mahogany encased with petite moldings. Here we have a very Rare Empire Dresser for your consideration. This is a very fine Wishbone Mirrored Dresser with side wig curio cabinets. These dressers have always been the Cadilac of Empire Dressers. But this one is one of the finest we have ever seen. The burled or Flame Mahogany is fantastic. The colors are just beautiful. We do not have the exact history. But the party we bought the dresser from, told us that this dresser was saved in Katrina from the Huricane in New Orleans. It was transported north and sold to raise money for the people who once owned it there. We bought it from the next party who purchased it. The dresser is of such fine quality, and has all original parts. The only thing it may need is some new screws in the back when the wig cabinets mount. At the moment it is all assembled and they were not needed. But when the ... moredresser comes to its new home, that is one addition we would suggest is new screws in the back area. The wood on every side is pristine on this piece. The only thing you would find is normal wear from a dresser of such a grand age. All that is needed is a nice polish and this piece is ready to set up and be displayed with pride. The dresser is 77" tall by 43" wide by 21" deep. The mirror attaches on each curio side with wooden screws and original knobs. The drawer fronts have the carving at the top and bottoms and the matched grain of the wood is outstanding. This piece could be by the famous cabinet maker Thomas Day. As even the sides of the dresser have fantastic matched graining. The hand made dove tails and brass locks, are all top notch and fine quality. The marble top inset is beautiful thick Italian Marble with nice grain and detail. There are no chips, nor cracks on the marble. It could use a polish from a marble professional. But the patina and wear only adds charactor to the piece. Up for auction is a beautiful old 19th century foot stool. It has a mahogany base and a needlepoint cushion top with a floral motif. It shows signs of age and wear such as a couple of small chips to the wood. Soiling, a couple of holes in the needlepoint, discoloration and staining of the cushion, loss of plumpness to the cushion, wear along the edges of the wood. Please see photos carefully for details. Offere d for sale is a Diminutive Mahogany Empire Ladies Desk circa 1840. This wonderful slant front Empire desk features a tooled leather top. Hidden compartment for inks and quills and slide out candle shelves. The top lifts to reveal a storage area with fake drawers with little ivory knobs. A lovely carved molding is around the bottom of the desk. Fully turned columns with carved capitals support the desk. Beautifully carved corner brackets can be found under each corner. Scrolled feet hold cupped rollers, hiding them from view. There are a couple of piece of veneer missing from the feet. Not uncommon for a piece of this age. On the inside there is an age separation in wood, again not uncommon and one candle holder has been replaced, please look closely the photos. Recently picked this piece up at a high end catalog sale auction in PA. I see no makers mark on this piece. If any of you out there know whom might of made it. Please let me know. Your identity will be kept anonymous. Thanks. Great finish on this piece of furniture. The two drawers still have their glass pulls. The brass lock mechanism is still on each drawer as well(no key for the lock) The stand also has two drop leaves and the hinges to hold them up are still there and work just fine. The top of the table was pieced together originally from 4 pieces of wood and the seaming has started to come apart and needs some attention. The wood is not split on top. That is the seams. The fabric around the bowl drawer ... moreis very worn and needs to be replaced(coming off the drawer, lots of loss of color, wear and tears) The carved detailings on the legs are just incredible. The legs do show repairs having been performed and the work was done pretty well. The sewing stand is 29.25" tall. By 22.75" across(41-5/8" across with leaves up) by 17-5/8" wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. The sewing stand is too delicate and large for shipping via freight. So local pick-up only. victorian empire solid mahogany table and six chippendale chairs
For Sale- 19 th Century Mahogany Chippendale table and six chairs. The 54 inch extension table top is made of two pieces of solid mahogany. The tree that these two pieces of mahogany came from must have been well over 27 inches in diameter. The apron around the table is crotch mahogany veneer. There are three leaves; an 18 inch leaf with an apron also with crotch mahogany veneer. There are two 14 inch leaves with no apron. We have provenance to about 1900. But my research would date the table to Victorian Empire period—1840 to 1860. The chairs are copies of 18 th Century Chippendale. They are made of heavy solid mahogany stock.and are very sturdy. They are heavily hand carved. Part of the carving is the laurel leaf design which is repeated in the table pedestal and on each side of the lion’s paw carved feet. There are 4 side chairs and two ... morearm chairs. One of the arm chairs has some damage but can be easily fixed. The set has been stored for years. I used Murphy’s Oil soap on two of the chairs and they turned out to my satisfaction. Most folks would elect to refinish the table top to get the full effect of the mahogany grain pattern. The large leaf has some water damage in the varnish but it is straight and sturdy—no warping. There is some of the crotch mahogany veneer missing on the apron of the large leaf. There is typical wear here and there to the original surface from every day use over the years. Has original solid wood side rails with scrolled brackets. There are some stress cracks running up the posts that are typical for age. There is some surface loss on one of the posts that I have shown in a closeup photo. Posts are Mahogany thick veneer surface. Top frame is mitered joint boards which are nailed to top of posts. Entire surface would benefit from a good oil and wax. All hardware is original and in working order for connections of rails and posts. Posts have good casters underneath carved bases. Measures 42 inches tall. 24 inches wide with a 4 inches tall cushion. I was told by three people in the antique furnature business that this was made most likely between 1865-1870. Very good condition with needle point cushion with handcarved mahogany frame. Looks like it was hardly sat in or used. I believe it is empire style. It measures 8 1/2" wide by 8 3/3" high by 4" deep. drawers are all dovetailed by hand and square head nails used for the other parts. There is grooves on the top drawers where I believe there was a mirror at one time which has been long lost. It is missing one pull and I don't know if they are original. One leg is missing in the back. the piece does have a piece off of the front edge of the top. I believe it is the original finish with wear from the years. Antique Empire Desk Description: Drop-down front. With two secret drawers, miniature columns on the inside to match the outside. Five inside drawers and four outside drawers. Finished with very ornate brass fittings on columns and drawers. The top drawer fitting does not match the bottom two. White marble top, not the orginal but has been there for 100 years. It is finished in a matched mahogany veneer. When the desk surface was refinished at some time it was done poorly and varnish drips come down the whole front of the cabinet. The large drop down desk part has it's orginal key. In photos are shown the desk in the artist's home c. 1910. Size: 54" x 37" x 17" Condition: Very sound piece. FINE FRENCH EMPIRE SIDE TABLE. Up for your consideration is this fine french side table. The table is made of mahogany and in Empire style. It features dark grey marble top and bronze accents. This table is elegant and in good condition for its age. it is made in last quarter of 19th century. This piece of furniture stands 58.5 cm or 23 inches tall. The marble is 40 cm or 15.7 in diameter. This a 19th century antique mahogany sideboard with some solid mahogany. Some figured mahogany veneers and pine secondary. There are two drawers over what appears to be three doors but is actually two doors. The right hand drawer is a lined drawer for silver ware and the bottom section can be totally locked. Drawers are hand dovetailed and the bottoms of the drawers are chamfered. The columns are like double ended C scrolls and the feet are simple.typical mid 1800's Empire Revival piece. Height to top = 40 1/2" Width = 57" Depth at deepest = 24" The lock sets are original. They are the"same" lockset in that they are both either left handed or right handed as the key needs to be reversed to work each lock. They lock easily. The key has been replaced. Antique Period Early American Mahogany Tabernacle Trumeau Pier Mirror Empire
This ca. 1825-1845 solid mahogany tabernacle mirror features antique gilt accents. Ring turned half columns, and numerous acorn pendant finials. It measures 38 ¾” x 17 ¼” overall; 8 ¾” x 12 7/8” upper pane; 21 ¾” x 13” mirror. The varnished surface is absolutely original; some of the gilding has been over painted in the past. The mirror pane has very bad silver in the bottom quadrant and is missing a base block/plinth. The turned half column base has come off but is present. It retains the original chamfered thin pine back and double brass knob hanging array. Its upper pane houses an original 1860/70s original Currier and Ives hand colored lithograph, A View On The Hudson” that replaces the earlier reverse painting. without a doubt this is one of the finest thomas day tables i have ever owned. i have had a few of them and always sold them for a decent price. i have had a couple of swivel top game tables go for better than 3000.00 and just recently sold a tilt top day table for around 1800 i believe it was. A rather small table but as all of day's pieces, it was built to perfection. if you don't know about thomas day, you should google him, very interesting reading plus informative as to the quality of pieces he made. at any rate, i have for sale the only drop leaf game table by day i have ever owned and i must say it is as nice as any as i have owned. martin terry also a black man and an expert on antique furniture assured me that this is a day table. when you look at this table you can not take your eyes off of it. it has by far the finest mahogany ... moregrain i have seen on any furniture piece. it has a wonderful acanthus carved pedestal that is supported by expertly fashion legs that are mortised in and finally sits on very nice and proportional size claw feet. the table could be used as a drop leaf kitchen table, but the drawer which is hand chamfered and has hand cut dove tails is a drawer for poker chips, cards, and other games. it has 8 compartments. the table is very heavy and extremely well made. note the leaf supports, two on each side which are mortised into the table skirt with expert tooling work. also note how the legs are mortised into the base of the pedestal to perfection. the table is a great and convenient size, when the leaves are down it is( the center section alone0 24.25 inches wide and 39 inches long, and stands 28 inches high. with the leaves up it is a bit over 44 wide, 39 inches deep, and 28 inches high. this table you just want to stare at and rub your hand over. the finest grain ever and feels like satin glass. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyers expense. i can help arrange for shipping should anyone need help there. note, i just went over it with furniture polish but i see i fa

early empire mahogany chest dresser turned columns very early period piece
for sale a very early empire chest of drawers or dresser. made of mahogany. this piece is as old as dirt. the drawer bottoms and the back of the chest is all hand chamfered. the joints are all hand cut dovetails. what few nails were used to stabilize the bottom of the drawers to the back are square nails. it features four drawers. None the same size. one large one on the top that is stepped out under which are situated two nicely spiral turned columns which come to rest on a platform that the turned front legs affix to. back legs are also turned. the feet or legs all have casters inserted in them. there is a molded trim along the bottom of the chest. it has a few minor dings here and there, none of which take away from its function or beauty plus there are a couple of small pieces of boards chipped out. they are all small and doubtful any ... morewill show in the pictures. it was faded and sun bleached when i dug it out of the barn. i cleaned it with new life and then rubbed a bit of stain on it and sprayed it with lacquer to dry the stain. i do not think it has ever been refinished. at any rate, it is a nice solid very old dresser. i am starting it for less than i paid years ago. 500 back then would make a pretty good down payment on a new car. it is a fairly large chest being 22.5 inches deep, 43 inches wide, and 48 inches tall. overall a very nice hand crafted empire chest made circa 1860. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyers expense. good luck.

LOVELY VINTAGE 8 INCH MAHOGANY 8 DAY DIAL WALL CLOCK MADE BY EMPIRE c1930 VINTAGE 8 INCH MAHOGANY 8 DAY DIAL WALL CLOCK MADE BY EMPIRE c1930 Here's a nice smaller dial clock made in the 1930s by Empire who were a sidearm of the Smiths of England clock making company. The surround is made of solid mahogany in to which is set the 8 inch dial. Sitting behind its chrome finished bezel. The back box is made of stained pine, with an access door to the bottom. There is a nicely fitted contoured plaque tacked to bottom of the surround. The total diameter is 11 inches, with a depth of 5 inches. Inside the clock beats the eight day pendulum movement. Stamped Empire. It is running beautifully, with a gentle tick, keeping excellent time over the eight days. The clock obviously has some 80 odd years under its belt. It has been used. Loved and repaired ... morewhen required. The back board has been replaced and the dial has had some of the numerals touched up(and there is a little pitting to the painted finish) The chromed finish is a little worn. Please make use of the enlarge feature on the photo's to see how little these"inperfections" effect the look of the piece. The plaque looks to have had an inscription on it at one time. This has been rubbed away until its almost invisible. There are 3 options. Leave as is(totally looks in keeping with the rest of the clock and is part of its history) remove(easy done as only held in place with pins) or have the plaque engraved with your own inscription, creating another page in history. This is a great old early Mahogany Secretary Desk. It has been restored back to pristine condition. Note photo of cracks that been repaired and filled. Flame grain mahogany is prominent throughout this piece, it is truly beautiful. The drop down down door opens to reveal many compartments and drawers, the lock has been replaced on this door) on the side of the large drawer the maker has carved in his initials of L.P. No 7, and the date of 1803. There is one full length drawer and 3 doors at the bottom, the center door is straight while the one on each side is curved. the locks on these 3 doors have been replaced with new ones.
