Not being overwhelming in any way, the highly appropriate depth and form work to repress the natural glamor of the form. Years of enjoyment in a bright room have mellowed the mahogany into a nearly cognac tone, the warm brown-red of the grains perfectly complimented by the naturalistic burlap backing inside of the glass cabinet- noteworthy and of great charm is the original pane of glass still retained in the door; the light rippled surface of hand blown glass is unmatched by modern craftsmanship and adds immeasurably to the nostalgia of these pieces. Mounted with medium-fine cast gilt bronze embellishments of neoclassical influence. There is a refinement about the overall form that is very striking. The construction is true to the period, the backboards chamfered along their edges to rest in the mitered stiles. While the top is lacking shelves, the"notched" system for the shelves runs along either side to readily accept new glass or wood shelves if you choose to have some crafted. The base has a single shelf, again using the notched track for customizable heights. While it has some flaws. Mostly in the form of little dings, chips and the discolored alligatored shellac to the right side of the case, this is a difficult form to come upon and is just delightful with this warm surface. This early 19th century bed has a commanding presence with is four tall massive octagon shaped bed posts of solid mahogany. The head-board features a shaped carved crest of crotch mahogany with a recess panel of crotch mahogany at the center. This fine bed bolts together very tight and sturdy. The only apology I can find for this nearly 200 year old bed would be a small chip on the inside of one of the posts near the top(see last pic) and the inset panel of the head-board has a slight age shrinkage crack neither of which is very noticeable unless very close inspection and not an issue of the sturdiness of the bed. Great form of an empire victorian footstools. Circa 1840-50.American made.solif mahogany. as pics show this small sized footstool packs alot of style. the wood itself shows an interesting flamed or ribbon style mahogany grain. This is more normally found in veneers,but this stool is made of selected grade solid flamed wood. It has a typical exxagerated"OG" serpentine molding that has a wonderful serpentine flow. This molding is offset from the seat and the bottom foot structure by heavily fluted moldings. The bottom foot portion is well carved and scalloped on the lower skirt section. The seat is a slip seat,and has an older useable velvet seat which could be easily reupholstered if so desired.This wonderful stool measures 12" x12" at base and is 8 1/2" high. Nice. Usable Empire or Classical Revival foot stool from the middle of the 19th century. The veneer is in great shape, there is just a small, old, loss to one of the feet which isn't visible from the outside. The needle work, is probably 2nd generation as the tacks look to be late 19th century. All of the colored wool yard is gone leaving the outline of the design which is still attractive the way it is. Vintage American Empire? Flame Mahogany footstool. I am not sure about the date. But I believe it is pre-1900. In good condition, but with some nicks and blemishes which you can see in the pictures. The fabric is of course not original and underneath that is a chintz flowered fabric. But what is underneath the flowered fabric I do not know because I have not taken it apart. 52889 ANTIQUE 1900 FRENCH EMPIRE 1800 12 COLUMN 48" MAHOGANY DESK W ORMOLU MNTS
A most impressive antique. Circa 1900, solid mahogany French Empire(circa 1800, or Napoleonic) desk. It has twelve tapered column supports collared in ormolu brass. The plinth column bases are connected by four serpentine stretchers to a center oval with footrest. The case sides and front drawer have ormolu brass mounts with swords, wreaths, rosettes, anf palmettes. The drawer handles have rosettes. Desk measures 30-3/4" tall by 48" wide by 29-1/2" deep. The distance from bottom of drawer to floor is 24" Very good plus condition: mahogany boards without chips or cracks, original glossy finish. The three board top has traces of blotter? removal that has effected the finish, but no gouges or scratches.

The"X-form" of the stools is of purely classical inspiration. A design associated with the Roman Empire but found as early as 500 B.C. in the Egyptian empires. The market for exceptional hand crafted revivals of the French Empire was strong enough during the late 19th and early 20th century to result in a quality of craftsmanship that rivaled the originals- this pair of stools were clearly crafted with this market in mind, as each is entirely carved and crafted by hand and of the ... morehighest grade of mahogany. The deep and even grains of the mahogany surface is preserved under a wax and is embellished with a tasteful selection of gilt bronze mounts. Each chased and filed with crisp precision- the arms are capped with tiny floral rosettes, the joint of the legs opposing anthemions flanking a larger floral rosette. The legs are stretched with a boldly turned stretcher. Each foot terminating in deep and heavy Lion paws- every toe is carefully formed and the sharp nail chiseled at the tip of each. For anyone passionate about the French Empire period and furnishings of classical inspiration, this is an outstanding find indeed. Beautiful 1800s claw foot empire sideboard. Very good condition for its age minor scratches and flaws. There is a place in the veneer on right drawer that looks like the veneer started to come off but was repaired. The feet have lost some of the coloring and need refinishing and small place in front top but all in all great piece. Flaws are minor just want buyer to be aware. Key hole us missing one one door but comes with key. Dimensions are 45" height x 72 1\2" width x 25 3/4" depth weight is approx. 150-200 pounds. Victorian Empire Mahogany Foot Stool/Ottoman~Flame Veneer~Ornate & Unusual
I bought this stool at an estate auction in Virginia about 20 years ago. And just loved its unusual shape. The wood looks to be flame veneer mahogany over pine. And is in good condition for its age with some minor chips. There is an old repaired break of one leg. But with 20 years of use it has never been a problem. Not really noticeable…see photos. It retains its original castors. This piece measures 17” high. And the cushion is 19” square. The top is upholstered in pink honeybee fabric which is ready to be replaced. In one area you can see the muslin underneath. Though it looks like it might be hard to reupholster. I think that if the fabric was carefully removed at the seams with a seam ripper, and the pieces used to make a pattern, it could be successfully reupholstered in an afternoon, with probably one or two of the side seams needing ... moreto be hand sewn. That was my plan, but we are downsizing to a smaller home, and I’ll leave the fabric selection and its renewal to someone else. The top is quite significant made and heavy(16 pounds) with a sturdy wood frame and lots of padding. While the base is only 7 pounds before boxing and packaging. Professionally and fully restored. This is a spectacular piece of furniture! Very impressive mid 1800's Empire Butler's Chest. This remarkable and exquisite Flame Mahogany Empire Butler's Chest is very striking and beautiful. The Chest is constructed of a mix of Mahogany and Cherry. It has three upper drawers; two with convex molded contours and original glass pulls. The center drawer is flat with a key hole. All the drawers are hand cut dovetail joints on all four corners of each drawer. Extremely amazing construction. The middle drawer. When opened with the original glass pulls, reveals a hidden desk compartment consisting of 2 vertical and 4 horizontal secretairian drawers with brass knob pulls, 4 accessible cubbieholes, a center securable lock box that was employed for confidenetials. Antique 19th C Wood Frame Mahogany Empire Ogee Style approx 10 x 14 1/4"
Up for auction is an antique early 19th C mahogany wood frame recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. All corners need regluing in a vice but should meet up fairly nicely when done and will hold art approx 10 x 14 1/4" May be a European sizing actually, not sure. The frame is not quite 1 3/4" and the rabid is 3/16" and shows signs of having held a canvas originally. Please see photo 4 for a close up of its primary loss. None the less it has a lovely distressed patina to it and a lovely high country rustic look to it worthy of being re-glued. Would be great with a simple mirror even. Best of luck in bidding. Exquisite crotch mahogany veneers applied in a matched repeating flame pattern on the exposed wood sections of the sofa. It is 90" wide. 28" deep, and 34" high. Circa 1820-1830. Finely carved swans in profile form the arms and built in bolsters. Reupholstered in a subtle tone-on-tone medallion/flower/wreath pattern in an ivory color. Includes 2 matching custom-made pillows(seen in the pictures) Mint condition. Original casters. Beautiful and functional antique. We specifically had the finish and patina kept intact when the sofas were reupholstered, and the last two pictures taken in natural light without flash show how the wood actually looks. Fabulous RJ Horner American Empire Oval Mahogany Coffee/ Cocktail Table c1900 Being offered for sale is this American Empire Mahogany Oval Coffee/ cocktail table with drawer made by RJ Horner. Co. NY with its original paper label intact on the underside of the drawer; circa 1900. This is a fabulous early coffee table with rich finish and beautiful details beginning with the large oval top of solid mahogany that features a wide band of embossed leafy scrolls with an ogee table apron with a single drawer at the front. This table is raised up on two large pillars with a classic shaped stretcher base and lovely C scroll feet. This fine table is in excellent antique condition with only normal usage and wear noted.solid and sturdy. Empire Mahogany 1835 Antique Butler Pull Out Desk& Chest. An American Empire"butler's" desk and chest dates from around 1835. Mahogany with striking matched flame grain panels. The gleaming finish is in excellent condition. The top"drawer" is actually a pull out desk. Used while standing or with a tall stool. As on Downton Abbey, the butler is the manager of all the servants, keeping accounts and paying bills at such a desk. The front of the desk has a slight warp as shown. There are small shrinkage separations from age. Large lower drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms on this American made antique furniture. Lovely Empire Victorian Flamed Mahogany Marble Top Washstand circa 1860
Being offered for sale is this lovely Flamed Mahogany Empire ~ Victorian Marble Top Washstand with Key circa 1860's.This beautiful 19th century washstand features gorgeous flamed mahogany.A beautiful marble top with a shaped backsplash and marble shelf, its original drawer pulls, with early hand-cut dove-tailed ends on the drawers, a chamfered back,inside of doors and drawer bottoms and casters intact on all four feet. This 19th century washstand measures 39 1/2 inches tall to the top of the marble backsplash.31 inches tall to the top of the marble at the front,33 inches wide and 20 1/2 inches deep and weighs approximately 100 lbs. The marble shelf measures 31 1/2 inches wide by 4 inches deep. The marble top appears to be an old replacement and has no chips or cracks but some slight staining as common with old marble. There is an area ... moreup under the left shelf bracket that has been"colored in" with white perhaps to cover a stain and blends very well and not very noticeable at all in my opinion unless very close inspection. The lock is intact on the doors below but the key provided just aids in opening the doors and doesn't work the lock. On the right side there is a small square opening about 1 inch where there once was a pull out towel rode but its no longer present. Just a splendid 19th century transitional Empire into Victorian era washstand that would be a great addition to a Victorian bedroom as a bedside nightstand. Please view.
