Antique Embossed Leather Humidor Cigar Chest
Absolutely gorgeous! This wooden chest is covered in embossed leather. Has antique(look) peg closure hardware, and is covered on the bottom with watered silk. The whole thing is a dream of European Old World elegance- like something from an English gentleman's study(that was looted from a Spanish Conquistador) It doesn't SMELL of cigars and I don't know when/if it ever held any. The wooden holder portion. Which is substantial, isn't anchored to the box and can be removed with no problem. It could easily be converted into a jewelry box or just an all purpose treasure chest. The leather is a wonderful deep brandy color and in addition to the embossing has a burled wood look. There are some small wear marks in the leather but with the burl they are not really noticeable. Some oiling might take care of it. The tip of one corner ... morehas noticeable scuffing(see pic) but again. I think a little leather stain or even shoe polish would take care of it. The leather itself isn't really chewed up, just scuffed enough to show the lighter color. The hardware has a great antique look- it may BE antique but I don't know and don't want to say it's something it's not. The silk on the bottom has what looks like a grease stain in the middle and a smaller dark spot on one side but the fabric is in good shape and tight to the box. The previous owner had this item setting in between her bathroom double sinks and must have used it to hold jewelry. Measures approximately 16" L x 11" D x 6" W. Exceptional Antique Qing Huanghuali Huang Huali Seal Chest
From a San Diego Living Estate Sale. Proud to offer this exceptional Seal Chest. Listed at the sale as"Qing Dynasty Huanghuali Chest" This as you can see, is a remarkable piece. The"Ghost Eye" effect is found in many areas but done exquisitely on both front doors of the chest. The top wave grain on the lid is spectacular and rarely found on any piece. Upon lifting the top back and allowing the two doors to open. Reveals 5 drawers. Four small and a lrage one at the bottom. Even the drawers have remarkable graining. The hardware appears to be original. The handles are looped into free spinning spindles making the handles to be easily removed. So attention needs to be made when lifting the chest. The right side of the chest has to additional spindles. One on the lid and one on the side. This was most likely an additional ... moremeans of securing the top to the lower chest. Whether there was a rod there or just move the existing handle is uncertain. The bottom drawer is a little tight when opening and requires minimal effort. The other four move freely as well as the doors and the top closes as it should securing the lower chest. Measurements are 15" High. 15 1/4" Wide and 10 1/2" Deep. Weight is approximately 20 lbs. 2014-12-07 1 SEE PICTURES BELOW Beautiful 18th century kneehole desk. I am not an expert. But I will do my best to describe it. I did have an antique furniture repairman look at it and verify what it was. But he's no longer available to help describe it, due to health problems) It is 29 7/8" tall, 32 3/8" wide, and 18 3/8" deep. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is. The 6 drawers(3 on each side) do not have the original drawer pulls. You can clearly see where the original drawer pulls went through and have been filled and repaired. see pics) Below the main top drawer is a"secret" drawer that appears to be part of the frame. There is plenty of character and wear from 250+ years of existance. Please view photos. Circa 1860 Mahogany Satinwood banding Few minor issues outlined in description, Handmade in the late Georgian-period England around 1860. This wonderful chest exhibits all the fine quality and beauty characteristic of Georgian furniture. The mahogany, for instance, remains as rich and striking as ever, while the excellent choice in solid brass pulls compliment beautifully with the wood. Each drawer has a lock but no key is present. The three drawer size is perfect to use as a nightstand, bedroom chest, foyer piece, or ... moreat the end of a hall. The drawers work easily and each is constructed with hand cut dovetails in the front and back. Great looking satinwood inlay creates a nice border around each drawer front and the top. We have rated this antique chest of drawers as good condition. Overall it has a marvelous look and deep color. The top has an old age separation on the left side and a few dings and light scratches which you can see in the photos. On the back of the chest(which you won’t usually see anyways) the back part of one foot is missing. These are really relatively minor issues for such an old chest. Amazingly the finish. Drawer fronts, and feet all were kept up very well and look great still today. If you are looking for a charming antique chest with plenty of history, this is the piece for you! A view of the back. Swept bracket feet were traditional to the period. This is the age separation on the back left side of the top. Here you can see the mahogany grain and the satinwood band on the top.
