Nice Old Antique Oak Chest, Box, Small Size, Knickknack, Jewelry, Vanity Items
Here's a very nice old or antique small oak chest or large oak box we received recently with some estate items. This one is probably a little on the large size to be called a jewelry box. It may have been used as a sewing chest. Or for knickknack, ladies vanity items, etc. It was made in the late 1890's to early 1900's and there is a patent date of December 25, 1994 on the hinges,yes, it appears the patent date occurred on Christmas day at the time) The box is in very nice condition with slight signs of age and use. It has a till or smaller interior covered area made of pine and the bottom is also made of pine. The box is about 14 inches long, 7.75 inches deep and 7.75 inches tall. It is footed and there is nice edge trim around the lid as shown. Lots of different decorative and use possibilities. We don't see many of these ... moresmaller size oak chests. That's about it. Up for consideration is a nice size Stagecoach antique trunk that has been restored. It has been cleaned well inside and out. The wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish. It os all original exccept for the handles were replaced with new leather ones. The inside was recovered so no musty smells. It does have some minor dings and stress cracks. But this only adds to the characture of this 150 year old trunk. It would be Great for a blanket chest. The measurements are; 30" long x 17" wide x 18" tall. Fountain Pen Storage Chest - Naken - Vintage and Unique
If you collect fountain pens. Then you have an investment that is worth protecting. If you collect vintage and antique fountain pens, why not store and display them in a fashion worthy of their distinction? Every chest I produce is a one-of-a-kind vessel that is between 40 and 80 years old. These are not assembly line– made in China boxes that you can find in office supply stores and sell for more than I charge for these. I repair and refurbish each box completely by hand. The interior of the boxes are replaced with a custom built system designed for the storage and display of fountain pens. The finishing touches to the interior include a padded interior cover and a custom built slotted base for protection of the pens. Both of which are covered with crushed velvet. The exteriors are completely stripped of all finishes and hand sanded to fresh ... morewood working through stages with varying grits of sandpaper. I use my own variation of the French polish process to finish the chest with shellac and polyurethane. I won’t go into detail on the French polish process, but it is used on guitars. You can see this process on Google. Needless to say, this procedure is done by hand and extremely laborious. You can literally see yourself on the surface of the finished product. Finally, the original brass hinges, handles, etc. are restored or replaced with new. This chest is a refurbished silverware storage box. It was originally made by Naken Company in Chicago Illinois out of solid hardwood(looks like walnut) and to my best guess during the 1950/60’s. The quality and craftsmanship of this box is evident in the box joints used to connect and strengthen the rounded corners. The original brass plate is on the top and you could have it engraved to personalize the chest. This box will display fourteen fountain pens. Keep in mind that while I am very particular about my work. These boxes are more than 50 years old. American Chippendale Painted Antique Blanket Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania. C. 1779 Item# 130002EEP16 This is a well worn and nearly untouched American Pennsylvania Chippendale Blanket Chest over Two Drawers. The interior of the lid covered in a fine woven green textile embroidered lower right"A.M.M. 1779" Likewise, the bottom of the inside of the chest bears the very faint initials and date"A M M 1779" these difficult to capture accurately with the camera and hard to see also with the eye. The underside of the lid of the till is inscribed in pencil"Hannah Britton" in a script that would suggest a somewhat early inscription by someone who owned the chest at one point. Crafted entirely of tulip poplar. Each surface of the case is crafted of a single solid unjoined board painted with a heavily oxidized brown streaked ... morepaint. The dovetails that join the case stretch from the top to the bottom of each toe, the feet becoming an integral part of the form, these well preserved and fully original. The molding around the lid, the midsection and the base are applied in the same manner, each with tiny wooden pins hammered through at regular intervals. The pair of drawers both bear pairs of replaced hardware, these inserted into the same original holes, both locks appearing to be fully original. The drawer frame is dovetailed front and back, the bottom heavily chamfered into rabbets on either side and nailed at the back in the typical manner. The interior of the chest has a later stain. While the 18th Century blanket chest is a very prevalent form. These are regularly refinished and rarely retain the original oxidized surface- even fewer also retain numerous matched inscriptions, dated and with some prior ownership inscribed on the interior. Well preserved in every way, this piece is untouched for the most part, of a desirable medium size and sturdy and strong in every way. These are incredibly useful in any colonial setting, at the foot of the bed as originally prescribed, between two arm chairs

Please understand that I would prefer this item be a local pickup because I can only tell you so much about this here and will give you your money back if you feel that, upon inspection, this is not what you wanted or that I did not describe it properly. The wood on the bottom is split and has a good bit of worm damage( I can make a new wood bottom and set it over the existing if someone wanted; I am open to discussion) all of the wood except the bottom appears to be oak. the bottom appears to be pine. There is quarter sawn oak trim applied to the front and sides of the chest- and it may have been applied when the chest was new. the trim is applied with dowels- which I have never seen before. the dowels must have been applied early as the boards have shrank around them leaving a bit of protrusion on the inside. I suspect the panels had been applied later. they are hand carved and are old. there is some northern european woodworm damage to them. BE AWARE THAT THE PANELS ARE DARKER THAN THEY APPEAR IN THE PHOTOS. I am convinced that the feet and lid were made up in the 18th century and applied at that time. these pieces were well made by a professional with nice joint work- but not as old as the balance of the chest. the panels on the lid are split and a rail is split. one of the rails on the

American Chippendale Period Walnut Diminutive Chest of Drawers Possibly of Southern origin Late 18th Century Item# 130102RIG18 This is a very interesting early work of American craftsmanship- an American Chippendale Chest of Drawers. Crafted with diminutive proportions during the fourth quarter of the 18th Century. It features a single solid board top attached to the case with pegs along the rim, this projecting lightly over a distinctive reeded molding wrapping around the three sides. Chamfered columns flank either side of three graduated drawers with molded lips, each with replaced brasses and original locks(top drawer lock is period, we believe it to be original, but it might be a replacement) The sides of the case are likewise solid walnut planks, these almost certainly joining to the bottom of the case with horizontal nails hidden by ... morethe molding- naturally, we have not removed the molding to verify this, but this presence of nailed joinery is evident throughout the case coupled with a lack of dovetails on the bottom board. The backboards are undisturbed yellow pine attached with rosehead nails. The drawer joinery is consistent in the top two drawers. Slightly varied at the back of the bottom drawer. This variation would typically suggest an alteration or rebuilding. But in this instance it does appear to have been crafted as such originally: Top drawer- a yellow pine drawer bottom deeply chamfered to rabbet into the poplar drawer sides. The bottom nailed to the poplar back board with a neat row of four nails; front dovetails are nailed from the sides, rear dovetails are nailed from the back. Middle drawer- a poplar drawer bottom is deeply chamfered to rabbet into the yellow pine drawer sides. Description: This listing is for a Federal Period Red Painted Maple Chest of Drawers. Probably Connecticut c. 1780-1800. It is a gorgeous work of art with a rather early and wonderful crusty red and black painted surface over the primary woods. The top projects over the case, finishing in soft molded edges over four graduated drawers. Each drawer features fully original hand cast batwing hardware and faux-keyhole escutcheons with numerous layers of original and later paints- one picture below shows a faux-keyhole escutcheon removed from the case, depicting the gritty surface behind it as well as detailed closeups of the back of the hardware. Each drawer is hand dovetailed with broad and rough dovetails, using what appear to ... morebe Eastern Pine for the drawer frame and bottom. The bottom is deeply chamfered to rabbet into the frame, and each drawer bottom is nailed at the back, though many nails are later with only a few originals. Each drawer is divided by cross bars that through-dovetail into and through the side of the case and backed by pine drawer runners nailed inside the case with rose head iron nails(one drawer runner top right replaced) The bottom of the case is uniquely designed, sliding into rabbets in the sides of the case along the entire bottom, locking at the front with an exposed through-dovetail. The top, likewise built to last, is joined at the top with a sliding dovetail joint that allows the top to expand and shrink easily without causing cracking or pressure. The back of the case features two board construction, one board being incredibly wide at 20" the second board being 13" wide with a soft ovular flow between the back feet. Original iron rose heads line the perimeter of the case back, locking the very thick secondary wood to the case permanently with only one replaced nail. Crafted of solid cherry wood throughout all primary surfaces. The case is crafted entirely using dovetail joinery, noting the sides which lock to the top with a half-blind dovetail, covered with a fine molded rim; the bottom mirrors the top construction, and the drawer divider bars dovetail into the face of the chest. These are of only partial depth, not full dustboards, typical of New England designs as it lessened the overall weight of the chest. The facade is four graduated drawers with bold batwing brasses, each replaced using nearly the same holes, ... morethe brasses of the same age as the chest. The drawer construction shows exquisite attention to detail, note the channeling along the top of the drawer framing, a design characteristic of Massachusetts(though also seen throughout other New England states) The sides of the chests wear fine brass carrying handles, each of magnificent proportions with original hand forged screws locking them to the chest. I restored this piece from top to bottom. This is some of the most beautiful burled walnut I have ever laid eyes upon.This is a world class antique and a gorgeous work of art. You will never tire of looking at this beautiful chest, it is so rich and beautiful. The highly burled walnut veneer over solid walnut drawer fronts is exquisite. The chest is solid walnut. Other than the drawer sides,drawer bottoms and drawer backs which are solid chestnut. The left side panel is the most gorgeous walnut side panel I have ever seen, no question about it. Fine English George II Mahogany Lowboy Chest of Drawers Mid-18th Century. Probably c. 1740-60 Item# 130002KJJ18 This is an absolutely wonderful find for serious collectors of Period Georgian English furniture- an original George II Period Lowboy Dressing Table crafted during the middle of the 18th Century. Almost certainly between the years of 1740-60. A pure piece with no adjustments or alterations, this is a very fine selection for purists and those with a preference for utmost quality in their collection. The projecting top was reset during the 20th Century, probably the same time it was refinished in a brilliant french polish, the molded edge scalloped on both front corners to give great shape to a simply gorgeous single solid plank of golden mahogany. The front and sides of the case are joined into the legs with a glued tenon joint. ... moreAll three being single solid boards with gorgeous grain selections. The front apron is scroll cut with magnificent and highly robust form, giving emphasis to the bold projection of the cabriole knee, the resulting empty space purely architectural in form. Three small drawers slide smoothly in and out of the case above this apron, each dovetailed at the front beneath cockbead molding, the backs and bottoms of the drawers nailed with small rows of iron nails. The brasses on each drawer are replaced, though correct for the period. Stretching from the top to the top. The legs are crafted of a highly complex single plank of wood, transitioning from the square corners into the bold cabriole leg before terminating in pointy slipper feet. The back legs are octagonally chamfered. Lending a squareness and masculinity to the overall form of the table. The back of the case is a single solid plank of oak, the interior secondary structure mostly pine with some oak- it is complex interior structure, a series of pine battens nailed perpendicular to the case on both sides and doubly in the center, one with an original rosehead nail visible. It is in"as found" condition. The deerskin is rough and the pieces of leather that hang off the sides are rather dry. Side handles appear to be original and in good condition. Measures 24" long. 12" deep and 10" tall. The lock, which I am not sure is original or not, has been repaired at some point in the past(repairs look pretty crude and old. Original sticker is still inside, as is the paper covering. Wood seems solid and all intact but does show signs of what appear to be termite damage. Antique Primitive Pine Lift Top Trunk Painted Green Tool Chest Country Folk
Antique green lift top chest. Classic primitive or country style. It looks like it was made from pine and has a basic six-panel construction. The top is made from three framed boards with a raised piece on top. Iron side handles and a molded base. Paint looks original or at least very old. Interior has sections for holding things in the front and stepped sides to hold boxes up. There are also strips of gathered leather attached to the top that may have been for tools and a cut-out"L" shape that may have held a carpenter's square. So it seems likely that this trunk was probably a tool chest at some point. Trunk probably dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. Overall. This piece is in good condition, however there is obvious wear as you can see from the pictures. There also appears to be some water damage to the finish ... moreand some water stains inside the trunk lid. The H hinges and side handles both show sign of rust, but are in solid condition and sturdy. The chest stands is 18" tall and measures 34.5" long and 22" wide. This is a superb period early 19th century chest that features beautiful flamed mahogany on the drawer fronts. The original brass pulls and early hand-cut dove-tailed ends on the drawers. This exceptional chest measures 46 1/4 inches in height.41 3/4 inches wide and 22 1/4 inches deep and weighs approximately 135 lbs. Very interesting tiny Scandinavian designer piece. I have no idea what to call it but it's unbearably cute. Perfect for small room. Bedside or hallway. Overall 33 3/4" wide x 12 1/2" deep x 24" tall. You could easily find or make taller legs if needed as they unscrew from the case. So far I know neither the maker or the designer. Probably the distinctive drawer pull detail will help identify. The case is 33 3/4" x 12 1/2" x 9" high. Screw-on legs. Despite the practically imperceptible chip in one of the drawer pulls(check the photos) and some stains in one drawer, it is certainly in well above average condition for vintage veneered pieces.
