Pretty little vintage dome-top trunk with hinge made from wood. A beautiful. Hand painted flowing mass of fruit cascades from a bowl on the lid and down the front. Very nice colorful Caribbean paper art print is attached to the inside lid with a border of red grosgrain ribbon on each side. The top has a fancy hook latch on the front and handles on each side. MAGNIFICENT"MOTHER OF ALL BLANKET CHESTS" GIGANTIC DOVETAILED SIX-BOARD-BOX õ Actually I think this heroic trunk is an Indonesian Dowry Chest. Or Javanese Storage Trunk(or" Grobog" in Bahasa) To my knowledge. These were the most spectacular, titanic dovetailed chests made anywhere at any time. Each side of this chest is a single gigantic slab of Teak. Cut by hand from the giant Teak trees that once were plentiful in the region. This is the Real Deal, a now rare form, and a magnificent example. The work in this piece is astounding. Every incredibly wide board is hand-planed. Revealing the rich, dark ripple of the aged teak through the subtly faceted carving. The moldings are hand-planed into the boards. The magnificent dovetails seem almost large enough to be a log cabin, the carvings lovely and tasteful subtle coloration ... moreto the wood rich& warming. The iron work is tremendous, robust, aged, hand-forged& intense. And as was the tradition, it's on these really great, large, built-in solid teak wheels! The top slab measures an incredible nearly 25" wide by 36" long in a single slab. Overall height is about 36-1/2" There are two handy compartments inside. One the full height of the interior and one with space underneath. I've been a collector of dovetailed chests for many years& I've collected some absolute beauties. This one is about the most heroic single-slab six-board box I've seen. The Indonesian Grobog chests can be very ornately carved& painted with striking colors. Indonesia is known for its amazing tradition of woodworking and crafts. I like that this one is much more simple& plain than most. And that the aged wood is allowed to be the most prominent surface. Indonesian chests like this are getting very rare. There was a time back in the 1990's when great containers of Indonesian Antiques were being shipped over. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS EARLY 19TH C. FEDERAL/CHIPPENDALE CHEST OF DRAWERS
Up for bid is an extremely stunning early 19th century. Believed to be 1830-40's solid walnut chest of drawers. Possibly Chippendale, though the piece does exhibit inlays across the top facia area, above the upper drawers, as well as along the chamfered front corners, which are consistent with the Federal period. The maker is unknown, however the piece has been well taken care since it was created nearly 200 years ago. The original hardware is all intact, the piece is all hand built and all drawers slide easily as they should. The only bad thing one could say about this piece, is a few minor cracks or splitting in the wood grain to the top board as well as the side boards, which would be consistent in pieces this old, due to the house in which it had been in in the last 100 years or so. Although there are cracks in the case of the piece, ... morethey do not take away from the sound structure of the piece and it's overall beauty. The chest stands approximately 40+ inches wide x about 4-1/2 feet high x about 18-20" deep. There is also a small piece of the return portion of the bracket foot, seen in the first picture, which appears to be missing. The piece is included and resting safely in one of the drawers, so it could easily be repaired. This chest is located in North East, MD and can be seen for a closer look, by appointment only. The"Lane Cedar Chest Company" started in business as the"Standard Red Cedar Chest Company" in 1912 and the name changed to Lane Cedar Chest in 1922. Chest and box manufacture was their primary business. This chest is in excellent condition. And has a push in latch. We vacuumed out the interior, cleaned the exterior, and treated the exterior with Howards Restor-a Finish Mahogany and then with furniture oil. The scroll Panel on the front is wood and there are a couple of very small dents and dings. Like many of the later chests this is solid red cedar on all sides covered with verneer but the rear could be finished so it can sit in the open in a room and be used as a cocktail table. With or without glass. This piece is ready for you to use. Not a fixer up project, and all you need to do is add your clothing items. The legs are wheeled which allows for easy movement. Two half drawers over four full drawers gives ample space for anything you need. The drawers also feature hand carved dovetails. The mirror attached to this dresser has a very antique feel to it. Vintage Oak Wood Shoe Shine Box Chest & Electric Shoe Polisher Dovetail Corners
For your consideration. I have an oak shoe shine box with a Sears shoe polisher and 2 attachments. The polisher is in good working condition. Includes the two attachments, a shoe shine brush, a cloth(not shown in pictures) and a good tin of black Kiwi shoe polish. The box has been refinished- there is a water ring on top that I couldn't get out but it's not too noticeable with the darker stain color. There is an advertisement inside the top lid for a shoe polisher but this is not the model that is included in this sale. I just left the advertisement inside for looks. 1930s 30s vtg mens Brown Wool 2 pc Single Breasted Suit. 40 chest 32 inseam This is a fantastic. Beautifully preserved 1930's vintage brown wool two piece suit. It has the J.C. Penney Inc. label used in the 1930's. And the stylistic details also confirm the 1930's dating.a ventless back on the jacket, nice keyhole buttonholes, a sleek trim fit, high-button stance, and a skeleton lining on the inside. Laid flat, the jacket measures 20" across the chest, 24.75" sleeve length shoulder seam to wrist cuff, 17.5" seam to seam across the shoulders in the back, and 31" total length center back nape to hem including the collar. It's in almost perfect vintage condition with no flaws or damage except for a small mothhole hidden behind the lapel. The pants have belt loops and brace buttons. A metal Talon zipper, a ... morewatch pocket, and cuffed hems. The width at the cuffs is 9.25" across. They have a 32" inseam with a 2" cuff, 43.25" overall length waist to hem, and a 29" waist(will comfortably stretch up to 30" with a 2.5" seam allowance in the back in case you need to let it out. There are three small moth holes on the pants.the largest is approx. 1/8" or slightly less than 4mm. Close-up pictures are included. Other than that, they're in excellent vintage condition. This suit came from the same estate as the other men's clothing I have up for auction this week. This was the oldest item in the lot from the living estate of an 86 year old man. This suit belonged to his father. And his dad's name is written on the inside of the pants pocket. In his younger days, Mr. Cline worked as a mechanic at Oak Grove Garage for Barringer Motor Co in the 1940s& 50s. The last time he wore this suit was in 1950.inside the pocket I found a dated receipt signed by him from Belk department store where he charged a pair of gloves to the Garage.
