Joshua Howe Hastings. Who had first served in the 25th Regt. Illinois Infantry, was wounded, and in October, 1863 was Capt. of Co. B in the just organized 15th Regiment of the Veteran Reserve Corps. The 15th V.R.C. spent the majority of their service guarding Confederate prisoners at Camp Douglas, at Chicago, Ill. In April, 1865, a detachment of the 15th Vet. Res. Corps was formed as an honor guard which accompanied the remains of Abraham Lincoln from Chicago to his final resting place in Springfield. I classified this as both pre-1930 and post 1930. Because I think it was made right around 1930! That's a guess) It's a very cool, unusual piece of Redwork, depicting a boating scene with some kind of Native Indian person leading a boatload of apprehensive Pilgrims? somewhere, but there's some tropical flora going on, so it could be a Southern piece. It looks like they're going through a swamp. It's a flat piece bordered in thin lace with an internal border to strengthen it. The cotton itself is thin. Measures 18" by 28 1/2" Perfect size for a large, rectangular-topped bureau or table. Nice center mat for a small Dining Room table as well. Condition on this is good to very good, some small holes in the thin lace border, could be rectified fairly easily. The rest is quite good, no stains or rips. The embroidery ... moreitself is very good, NOTE: there are two plants directly below the boat that were done in a lighter shade of rose-pink thread, must've run out of red! Waynesboro, Fairfield and Stuarts Draft in Virginia. The sack measures about 24" x 38" has very readable printing on one side only and still retains the original stitching across the bottom and up the sides. It is made of burlap and excellent graphics in green, red and blue showing two horses, a cow, a pig and a chicken in a pasture with a barn and silo in the background. The Augusta Cooperative Farm Bureau is still in existence today and trades under the name of Augusta Coop. They provide fee d and grain for cattle. Antique Oak wooden Bathroom Commode Bureau Dresser of Drawers wash night stand
Used condition~meaning not new and in a different condition other than when originally made. This is a beautiful cabinet with plenty of charm. It could be used as a commode. Small buffet or even a nightstand in a child's room. One pull has had the screws replaced with new hardware& one damaged drawer pull. T here is a circular stain on the top of cabinet with light scratches from normal use. Could be covered by dresser scarf or perhaps sanded out and refinished. Antique Georgian Federal(?) Secretary Slant Front Desk Four Drawer Bureau 1840
Family lore has it that this was made in 1840 but I don't know for sure. This was my father's father and. Given to me but I'm headed to. South America and none of our children want it. All the drawers and top are joined. With dovetails at the corners. All the drawer bottoms have chamfered. Ends that fit into a tight track in the drawer. Sides. I'm guessing that drawer facewood. Is cherry(mahogany? and hinder parts of drawers made from boxwood. All the drawers fit precisely. The large drawers have grooves worn in them. From riding over guidance rails in the front of. The drawer entry points(see pics) It looks like. This was by design to accommodate the heavy. Drawers(which are prob mahogany. Not cherry) Veneer is poor in several areas. Esp the slope top front. The back view pic shows two arrows pointing out the width of a single ... moreboard which is a whopping 21 1/2 inches wide. Included in this pic at the bottom are shown. The three pieces of molding that need to be glued back onto the'ankles' The brass balls in the feet at each corner rotate. Nicely but the 2 x 2 inch wood stock that the casters are attached to have a nasty habit of coming loose. And need to be re-attached. This happened today. In fact, as I was rolling the 200 lb desk back inside after the photo shoot. I'll put it back in place with some wood screws. Before sending it out. No idea what it'll cost to freight so I'll guess. $150.00. This is just a ballpark and I'll work. With the winning bidder to get the best freight. Rate. If it's too much. The front cover is two thirds covered by a heavy oily stain mark that carries partly onto the back cover and shows up at the bottom of the first 6-7 interior pages. It does NOT interfere with reading text or viewing graphics in any way. The covers also have multiple small edge rips, tears, bites, edge rubs and dings and slight curling. The staples are holding the covers very weakly, but still holding covers to the rest of the magazine. Interior pages are still held completely by the staples. Have scattered small dirt spots and smudges, age-yellowing and some of the oily stain darkening. The letter from the Chief has age yellowing and some ink fading along with edge bends and small tears and other damage- but again. Is completely legible. Please see photos for details!
