The"Passport" measures 5 3/8" by 3" and contains 18 pages. These were a guarantee of Conoco assistance to the traveler in the form of making reservations, obtaining auto repairs, providing maps and caring for mail, etc. Included are expense record pages, a 1935 calandar and a chart with state gas taxes and speed limits. Early engraved stock certificate of the Peoria& Bureau Valley Railroad Company. Dated October 28, 1897. Deatiled vignette of indians on hilltop overlooking train passing through the plains with buffalo roaming in foreground. T he first railroad in Peoria was the Peoria and Warsaw. Incorporated in 1838. Unfortunately, it encountered financial problems and not a mile of railroad track was laid. However, by November 9, 1854, the first passenger train began serving Peoria; it was the Peoria and Bureau Valley Railroad. Not all welcomed the coming of the railroad. Some were concerned that the"locomotive and the cars would injure the crops, pollute the atmosphere, produce earthquakes, and cause weather disturbances. This desk came from the New Castle Public Library in New Castle. PA. I do not know if it is POST 1950 or PRE 1950. I am researching it currently, but I have in listed as POST 1950 for now. Antique Federal Style Flame Mahogany Dresser w/ Mirror Chest of 6 Drawers Bureau
Antique Federal style mirrored dresser or chest of drawers dating from the early 1900's. Stunning flame mahogany veneers grace the surfaces of this piece and are decorated with intricate contrasting inlay. An inlay medallion of a lamp has been placed atop the swivelling mirror. This piece has six drawers ina 3 over 3 configuration. Providing ample storage space. All the drawers are made with high quality dovetail construction. The entire piece is raised off of the ground by short tapered square legs sitting on brass and wood casters. Overall. This piece is in good condition. There is some noticeable silver loss to the mirror(see pictures) but no cracks or other damage. The wood has some noticeable wear associated with age, including chips and breakage to the veneers or inlay, including the lamp maedallion at the top of the mirror. See ... morepictures. There is also a chip out of the left side finial and the right side finial is missing altogether. The knob that goes over the swivel action of the mirror on the right side has come off, but we do have it. The wheels of the casters do no turn easily and probably need to be oiled. No other breaks or repairs. The bureau stands 72" tall and is 50 1/2" wide and 23" deep. The mirror has maximum dimensions of 43" X 29" We do have other pieces that match this one available. Made perhaps around 1910 in England the mahogany displays a wonderful ... morepatina that will continue to enrich as time passes. The fall of the bureau is decorated with a gorgeous inlaid shell. The quaint size of this piece makes it perfect to fit almost anywhere. The three shelves in the astragal glazed glass top are adjustable and removable. The condition of this bureau is good with a few areas of note. The moulding on the top doors as repaired right by the keyhole. The inside of the fall has a cosmetic crack to it, and the piece has the normal wear you would expect from an antique of this age throughout. The top doors and the fall lock with included key. The top bookcase section does separate for easier moving and shipping. This bureau bookcase offers plenty of storage. And could be used as a desk. The sides are clean so the piece should fit nicely in any location. This exquisite satinwood shell inlay adorns the face of the fall. Here is the desk area. Connecticut- used in marine navigation to determine distance,in solid hardwood box with original nameplate, brass hasps and handles, with original directions still intact, all in good condition, a piece of nautical history over 70 years old. Wooden box is in good condition with wrench style locking brass clasps and brass handles on each side. The box is approximately 12 1/2" long. The serial number is No. 11408.
